I am working on designing a D&D encounter (a spin off of a board game I am creating). In this particular map, the adventurers are at the base of a Volcano and there are four different types of large crystals growing everywhere. I am struggling to come up with a few properties of the crystals, and would love your ideas! (There are Red, Green, Blue, and Purple) Some have been directly referenced, some indirectly, and some I would love to fit in to my Campaign. [Things in brackets are what need ideas for]
Red - Fire related, secrets closely kept by the Pyromancers
Purple - Mysterious, generic magic related
Green - [Plant related?]
Blue - [NEED]
Proper Harvesting Method:
R - [NEED] (closely guarded secret by the Pyromancers)
P - Unknown (Let players try to come up with a safe method)
G - [NEED]
B - [NEED]
Effects of improper Harvesting:
R - Explosion. covers everything in a dust that burns to touch
P - Purple dust cloud. Anyone who inhales it suffers random magical effect.
G - [NEED]
B - [NEED]
Effects of the Crystal:
R - Reduced fire damage when worn. When thrown, explodes.
P - Random effect per player (one of four effects)
G - [NEED] (+2 NATURE?)
B - [NEED]
Effects of the Powder:
R - When drank, allows for manipulation of fire (with practice)
P - When ingested, give one of 20 different effects (good or bad)
Blue could be lightning related maybe? There are a lot of stunning, lightning or thunder effects you could associate with them. And volcanos have been known to generate lightning when they erupt so it's a bit of a thematic tie-in.
Looks like you are leaning towards nature/plant-y with green. Maybe they have rootlike growths and need to be carefully pulled up whole the way you'd need to pull up a plant? If you broke it while harvesting, maybe the area would become difficult terrain like plant growth but smaller.
The red could have to be harvested by burning the rock around it with lava. The green could have to use plant growth to push the dirt away. Blue the players have to freeze and shatter the earth around it.

I agree with blue being lightning related. its hard to deiced, because I dont know how powerful these should be. maybe blue gives you resistance to lighting damage, and lets you cast shocking grasp at will? maybe once per short rest you can shoot a blast of lightning that stuns and deals heavy lightning damage?
