I would like to see an official Darkling character race. Totally tropy, but I would love to play a cloaked wrapped light sensitive character who, at some level, gets glowing tattoos that makes his appearance change.
Is it weird that I just homebrewed a darkling race without knowing this comment existed?

All stars fade. Some stars forever fall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homebrew (Mostly Outdated):Magic Items,Monsters,Spells,Subclasses ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there was no light, people wouldn't fear the dark.
Not quite Tiny PC pixies, but realistically about as close as Wizards is likely to get. Especially with that 'Fey Passage' bit that lets them ooze their way through gaps. Heh, one of the DM people for my group is Fry Meming the fairies even harder than he did dhampir.

I'm surprised the Fairy didn't get Darkvision as a racial feature but hey they can fly without wings.
I would like the races that are "Something folk" or "Whatever Kin" to become playable. Like the Ooze Folk, Yak Kin, Lobster Folk, So on and so forth.
But truly, anything that is mechanically distinct without being reductive of other things in the game is a welcome addition. Be it Class, Race, subclass or otherwise.
I'd like to see a non-magical noble class like those in most editions of the Star Wars RPG systems. Unfortunately, social encounters in 5e are not mechanically interesting, which is the same issue that rangers have with respect to exploration. I could see abilities that make helping easier or more interesting, shift NPC attitudes, etc.

It seems to be a race with a lot of potential. You start out small and then at some level you'd grow to medium. Then you can always do the sacrifice move of blowing yourself up by taking in too much light. Could be fun.

Wasn’t there an official setting (was it Birthright or Red Steel?) in which Halflings basically are Darklings? The “halfling” name in this setting came from their association to the plane of shadow.
How would that look, considering the bard is designed as a full caster class in this game? Almost no martial competence and relatively few features past Tier 1 play. You'd have to rebuild the bard from the ground up, really. What would a magicless bard look like, and how would they be useful on adventures? I'm honestly curious to know.
I don't think you could really do a "magicless Bard" class, but I think it'd be possible to do a "Minstrel" subclass, perhaps as a Rogue Subclass, that includes a lot of functional abilities inspired by or that accentuates performance and music. Obviously you could currently take any Rogue Subclass and just take the Entertainer background to get proficiency with instruments and focus your expertises on appropriate skills and get much the same feel. I think currently Swashbuckler is the closest we have, since it's a Rogue subclasses that very specifically benefits from a high CHA stat.
I would prolly look at some homebrew and see how other people do it, since fullcasting is huge and it's not like I can just replace with, like, martial superiority or something, I'd really have my work cut out for me.
Ooh, idea, give them martial superiority, but they use it on other people's attacks!
Give them more skill-based features.
I just looked through their spell list and most of their spells are buff/debuff, so I don't know how that would work.
let them use their superiority die on skill checks maybe.

I also think the 'soul bonded creature/summoner' class concept should be a thing in 5e, sure we have beastmaster and summoning wizard, but the concept is enough for an entire class.

I was just thinking of a you can expend a hit dice for spell slots type of mechanic now that I say this I guess it would be like a blood mage sorc!

Centaurs and Satyrs didn't get darkvision either, seems that Fey PC races aren't getting that ability.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
A wereshark option for BH Lycan order would be dope.

I would like to see a nonmagical bard, sort of like what they did with ranger.
