I wasn't sure which forum would be best for this but I am currently creating a Blood Hunter class character and for my Crimson Rite I get to choose what kind of damage I get to deal and I'm not sure if fire or lightning would be the best to choose? anybody have any insight or advice?
I will list a few factors in the order of importance in my opinion:
Whichever type seems cooler/better fits your character concept - honestly I think this contributes more to fun than the relatively minor benefits gained from the below points.
Party composition - if you have a fire specialist, you might want to go lightning to 'diversify' your damage, whether due to keeping your characters unique or for covering each others' weaknesses. On the other hand, if they have some way to make one damage type more effective (like Elemental Bane), then maybe you can benefit from their features by matching their damage.
Resistances - I don't know the exact numbers, but a quick filter of all monsters by damage resistance turns up 9 pages with fire resistance and 8 pages with lightning. Fire is pretty notorious for being resisted so I was kind of surprised it was that close. Lightning has an edge here, but maybe not a huge one.
