Love this update! Since I am part in three different pbp here I would like to know if there is cross-link for this update! Thank you guys for the great job!
I've been following along the Zendikar/Eberron game and I think Cassiel is my favorite so far. Him and Aukan... Actually everyone is playing really well but I really like the three personalities if Cassiel. The confliction of A & B (sorry, forgot their names lol) and how Cass deals with it and uses it to fuel him as a character is really awesome. Also, his openness was really unexpected. I was expecting him to keep it to himself for a little while. Good show so far! Gonz has a cool group playing in his game.

I understand how much time and effort is needed to do all that is planed, and what has already been released, but I feel like the content cycle is too slow. For experienced players the site as it stands is of little practical use. It is a great place to use for discussion but there are plenty of established forums for this already. Once the remainder of the stated features are added I think this site will be a very valuable tool but until then it's just another forum with arguably fancier UI and a convenient place for any new player to look at some info before purchasing the books or digital copies of them.
I disagree. As an experienced player and DM, I have used this site for the game I run on Friday nights and it has been a godsend. No more flipping through books, I can have my whole game ready to go in like 10 minutes. I have all my monsters and spells ready to go without having to notecard everything. I mean, that's how I have always ran my game. I would make notecards of all the big spells and every monster, so when it came up I had them at the ready. It would usually take 2-3 hours out of my day on game nights. Now it takes 10 minutes! 10 FREAKING MINUTES! Someone with your experience can appreciate that. I'm no longer bogged down with building the nights encounters and can focus more on my story. My players have even said that the game is running smoother and they feel like I am more in touch with the story. And this is just the beginning? Pfft...I want more too but calling it a Forum with fancy UI is a little underselling what Curse has done so far. Right now it's just the basics, so I do see where you are coming from. Keep in mind that this is just SRD rules that are available for free right now and more content is coming in the next two (2) phases.

It is really humbling to have a concept I created being enjoyed by the community! Cassiel (and Adriel and Barachiel ;) ) is one of the hardest and best concept I've ever played and I too thought he would be more restrained and keep his "condition" hidden, but the RP took that turn and I am enjoying it to much!
Is there a direct link to the survey? I either must have hit the complete without filling it out or it's bugged for me as I only see a Thank You For Submitting message.
I like how things are shaping up. The Compendium is nice and the classes were one of the few things that I needed during prep that weren't actually available. So... very nice and appreciated.
Edit: Just noticed the Character drop-down. I like it.
Suggestions:
Make the subclasses separate pages. Probably not a big deal when there's only one per class, but I hate tables of content that are just anchors. When I'm scroll-skimming, I always end up passing the top or bottom of the section. The other things make sense to put on the same page, but a subclass is just big enough and a separate enough thing to warrant being separate. Maybe the same thing for subraces, just to be consistent.
I like the twist-downs for feats and backgrounds, but would like to be able to right-click --> open in new tab to do side-by-side comparisons. I do a lot of custom backgrounds and they're usually hybrids of two or three. Doh! Just saw the "View Details Page" button. Leaving brain droppings to show the problem. Maybe move that button to the top of the entry, instead of the bottom.
Finally, the contentious one: What's up with the Five Factions and only the gods of the Realms? Those aren't in the SRD. Historic gods (Celtic, Norse, etc.) are. Where are the historic gods? I expect it's more a WotC decision than Curse (maybe not), but it really pisses me off when the Realms are the only setting that gets treatment in something. If you want to use the Realms as an example of how home brew content will be integrated, great. Even outside the SRD, the Realms are only one setting and not "core". It's totally inappropriate to have Realms-specific info mixed into the Compendium, fluidly.
Note: I don't actually mind support for the Realms. I just really get tired of it being the only supported setting. Whatever the final release looks like, the Realms should be handled exactly the same way as Eberron, Greyhawk, etc. are. I get that the DM Guild has restrictions on which settings can have things published and assume DnD Beyond has comparable guidance. Even if none of the other settings is cleared for support by go-live, the Realms should be a model for how we can expect the other settings to be integrated.
What was the reasoning behind releasing the class section incomplete? There's just one subclass available for each (Cleric Domain, Warlock Patron, Bard College etc.)
Also, will it be updated to include races found in additional books like Volo's?
OMFG, They are releasing content in the freely available SRD and Basic Rules. They have not released any content from a Commercially Released Book or Supplement yet. The additional subclasses are from the PHB but are not part of the SRD or Basic Rules. Same with feats, backgrounds, etc.
I am sure they are still putting the finishing touches on the Purchase Options and Costs for "Premium Content." But this does raise the question about content that has been included in a Commercial Product and Released by WotC for Free ... The ToEE Players Companion for example. Will items from it be available for free or will they require a subscription or purchase?
In addition to the survey results, I had another feature interest that needed a little more space. It would be great to see third party content sales integrated in here as well. (Virtual tabletop integration brought this to mind.) Tome of Beasts just released for Hero Lab, but I'd rather get it here so my content would be in a single platform. It would be even better if you could link to a DriveThruRPG account to populate linked content for DMs' Guild and other publishers that sell through there. One of the few places you could avoid the "buy it again" complaints if the sellers were willing to license for previous purchases.
Couldn't be crossing my fingers more in the hopes that digital content unlocked via Fantasy Grounds and Roll20 will be available without having to pay for content twice (three times for the books I own as well)
Can't wait for phase 2. It's going to be great to just whip out the app for noobs, rather than walk them through character creation in the book, especially as I don't have the rules memorized myself.
Rest assured, the developers have already said that a global 'omni' search will definitely be here at launch - it will just be one of the last things they add due to the nature of its implementation. It's unfortunate for us short-term but better for everyone in the long run.

I somewhat feel the same way concerning how slow new content is being added. However I think what a lot of people are forgetting is this is a beta, not a finished product. It's not intended at this point to be used to build your campaign or run a game with. What's going on here is the D&D Beyond team is asking for our help to test the structure and usefulness of the content as they put it together and release it. For those of us that have hard copies of all of the material sure it's not super useful at this point but if we want it to be useful and worth all the time and effort the DDB team is putting into it the best thing we can do is give constructive insight on the workings of what is currently available and not criticism on what isn't released yet or how unuseful the current version is to us at this point.
That being said I know I myself got caught up in the trolls early on regarding cost and all that. As more and more content (as slow as we may feel it's being put out) is released the more excited I am to use this tool and less I worry about cost. I'm not made of money though so I do hope it's within my budget lol.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm hoping those things you mentioned as well as the info presented in the unearthed arcana articles will be part of the free version. I'm also hoping there will be an easy way to add anything purchased from DM'S Guild will be transferable to the tool. I'm sure that will be addressed during the homebrew phase though.
Remember it's not just about adding content but cross linking it for easy access as well. So far the formatting choices have been spot on and I suspect that there's a lot of work in the background dealing with streamlining workflow so that when content is generated for print it is 95% ready to flow into the online format as well. What that means is once legacy material is manually converted there should be little or no conversion process for newly released print content.
Also keep in mind they are working not just on the product you see but on the product you don't see yet. Making what you see work the way it does is incredibly time consuming but not incredibly difficult... Making sure it will continue to work seamlessly as additional functions are brought online takes work and skill.

I was wondering the very same thing. Why are they not complete?

As per above replies,
for the duration of the beta test, content is restricted to that which is the freely available in the D&D 5th edition SRD and D&D 5th edition Basic Rules and will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book or Supplement. The additional subclasses are from the PHB but are not part of the SRD or Basic Rules. Same with feats, backgrounds, etc.
Rest assured that all of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond - the cost for accessing this material has not yest been announced.

Client for desktop.
It could be released on steam, free or paid, depending on what it offers. XD

Wouldn't that be redundant? And wouldn't you have a browser open anyway?
