The guard is down. And Derendil failed his CON save, so he is knocked out and poisoned.
Jimjar will take his turn to run over to Derendil and try to shake him awake. He will wake up on his next turn.

Everything is carved out of stone, so there isn't much in the way of loose dirt. The basket for the lift itself is made of some sort of heavy/durable material.

" Giving the guard a glance, the half elf quietly mutters the spell.
Action: Julius casts Minor Illusion to make a 5ft cube iron box to cover the head of the drow guard. I think the first th thing you do when you suddenly become blind is check your eyes. So hopefully this spell can make the temporarily Blind and delay his action for one turn. )

Does Julius or other prisoners know where the hole of the lift leads up to? And does Julius know the name of the guard?
There is some dim light in the room, so can you describe in more detail how this illusion is shaped around the Drow's head? Is it touching any areas? How is it blocking out the dim light?
Is this Stealth roll to conceal your casting? If so it succeeds.
I am sorry for the delay. The notification didn't tell me your post somehow. Yes that Stealth check is for Spell casting.
The box Julius made is a 5ft black cube, floating in the air and covering the upper half of the guard. It would block the sight of the drow but give the prisoners enough view to attack. I assume it will work like a temporary, one turn and one time only blind spell.
As long as it's not touching the guard, it would catch him off guard. So yes, I would say that you have one round of the guard caught unawares.

A shout is heard: "Dragon! Demons!" as the guards take up arms and run to take care of the threat that is now upon them.
