Round 2 Results (cont’d.)
Vidruth has long acquaintance with the craven self-interest of goblins, and he aims his words well. Yet he can’t tell for certain whether his threat has had any effect (PER: 6-1=5), for the goblins remain hidden and do not show themselves.
Marten slinks silently and efficiently through the underbrush up the hillside. He has no clear line of sight at any creatures through so much underbrush, but he knows he is similarly protected.
Nosam, with pure luck – or perhaps, the developed instincts of a fighter – head butts a low-hanging hickory tree branch then reverses, striking to the opposite direction with his warhammer. The ruse works. The motion of the tree branch flushes out the goblin which flees directly into the dwarf’s whirling blow. The hammer crunches into the goblin’s sternum, throwing it head-over-heels back to slam into the hickory trunk, dead. (I hope you don’t mind me taking some license with your attack strategy here, following my response in chat.)
Round 3 Results (part 1)
(OOC: my roll for goblin morale in response to Vidruth’s statement: 4)
Goblin 5 releases an arrow at a point near Marten, but it is merely guessing at his location. The arrow thumps into the spread-palmed scraggly roots of an overturned dead tree, nowhere close to the wily rogue. The evil creature then backs up and flees, diving through the undergrowth as it goes (hiding).
Goblin 3 releases an arrow at Kiselina then flees, hiding. Kiselina may add +2 to his AC for ½ cover from thickets.
Goblin 3 attacks Kiselina: 12 to hit / 3 piercing damage.
Goblins 6 & 7 release arrows at Nosam then run for the hills, hiding.
Goblin 6 attacks Nosam: 14 to hit / 3 piercing damage.
Goblin 7 attacks Nosam: 18 to hit / 5 piercing damage.
Goblins 8 & 9 release arrows at Berry then run for the hills, hiding.
Goblin 8 attacks Berry: 9 to hit / 4 piercing damage.
Goblin 9 attacks Berry: 22 to hit / 7 piercing damage.
Goblin 10 releases an arrow at Kiselina than flees for its life.
Goblin 10 attacks Kiselina: 21 to hit / 6 piercing damage.
You are now situated like so:
Goblins, this round, make a group Stealth roll of 17. To attack any of them, you must equal this roll or attack at disadvantage. Please post Round 3 actions in any order.
Kiselina moves into position next to the overhang into the thickets after landing the killing blow on the wolf. He knew there was a goblin to his right (or east) just not exactly where. He turned to face it just as its arrow came in. It was a near miss. The Paladin was already wheezing from the previous shot, probably a punctured lung. But he had fought on.
With the near miss, he was starting to believe that his short stop at the shrine in Phandalin had graced him with enough of Tymora’s luck to keep him safe…but the goddess of luck can befickle, and his luck was about to run out.
Unbeknownst to the knight, high enough above him, one of the many goblin archers marked Kiselina’s movement to near below him. A toothy smile crossed the little bugger’s face as he leaned just far enough out to clear the overhang. Its arrow hits the Paladin nearly straight down, sinking deep into the Dragonborn’s shoulder and piercing his other lung.
Kiselina collapses to the ground as all goes dark.
Marten cannot see most of the group from his hiding spot. He can see his friend Nosam as the dwarf somehow manages to find a goblin in the thick undergrowth and then absolutely clobbers it with his warhammer. But most of the rest of the fighting is blocked from his view. He hears the goblins on the slope over the outcropping scurrying away after Vidruth's threat, but he doesn't want to give away his position too quickly. Good thing, too:
Goblin 5 releases an arrow at a point near Marten, but it is merely guessing at his location. The arrow thumps into the spread-palmed scraggly roots of an overturned dead tree, nowhere close to the wily rogue. The evil creature then backs up and flees, diving through the undergrowth as it goes (hiding).
Marten feels the thump as the arrow strikes the dead tree and has an immediate sense of having seen it come from over....there! He looks just in time to see the goblin dive through the undergrowth, but he's able to track its movement as it flees. Perception18 (in game log)
Marten wants to eliminate any of the goblins who still have a clear shot at those sheltering inside of the lean-to. He shoots at the fleeing goblin and then starts moving through the undergrowth back to Sildar and the others still in the lean-to.
Movement: 30' of movement: F3 >> F4 (diff terrain) >> F5 (diff terrain) >> G5 (diff terrain) Action: Attack (in game log), Shortbow (80/320): 24, Damage (also in game log): 10 = 4 (bow) + 6 (sneak attack since he's attacking w/ advantage)
(OOC: I originally forgot that Marten would have advantage since he was hidden, so I just rolled the attack twice: max(13, 19)+5 = 24.)
Daphyra yelps as the bugbear eye catapults towards her. She shakes her paw to get rid of the ooze it leaves on her fur. "Ugh! Good riddance," she mutters.
She sees the arrow pierce Kiselina's armour and he crumples. Daphyra sends thanks to Bastet that she saved the magic for this and heads to the edge of the dugout. She calls out Healing Word: "Goddess save him!" and keeps her eyes peeled for goblins (perception 9). If she sees one she will point at it and whisper "Dong", casting Toll the Dead.
Action (held): Toll the Dead (WIS DC13 or 12HP if damaged, 5HP otherwise.)
Berry was mesmerized by the violent, horrible death of the bugbear just in front of him. All his focus went into not getting hit by exploding body parts, so that he totally missed where the remaining goblins went. He flies some 15 feet above the overhanging rock (30 ft above ground level) and yells, “Where are you? Come back! We’re not finished!” And keeps a look out for the goblins while he tries to dodge incoming attacks.

Blood fountains from Kiselina while, unaware of his surroundings, an image of Bahamut glowing in the distance, but nearing every moment, spools in his mind’s eye.
Despite having ¾ cover from the many intervening saplings and thickets, Marten chooses his moment, predicting with incredible success Goblin 5’s movement. The rogue’s arrow ricochets off a low-hanging branch – a few splinters shower down – and strikes the goblin through the heart from behind. It falls instantly.
Daphyra succeeds in saving Kiselina. The cleric feels Bastet moving through her. Kiselina’s blood fountains in reverse motion, back into him, and the dimming light in his eyes flashes bravely once again.
Berry (OOC: I rolled 9 Perception for Berry in the game log) flies up and over the lip of the natural lean-to, flitting unpredictably among the tree crowns, but sees none of the hidden foes yet.
Vidruth moves toward the sleeping goblins, but (I rolled ic: 8) is unable to detect any hidden foes yet.
Nosam gets as far as F10 when he sees that Marten’s arrow has already struck its target. Goblin 5 lies motionless on the grass.
Round 4 Results (partial)
Goblin 3, from hiding, fires a snapshot at Vidruth through the brush Vidruth enjoys ½ cover from the intervening branches. The goblin then keeps running and hides again. At the moment of the attack, Vidruth sees the goblin and his firebolt is triggered, however in the moment he fumbles the arcane phrase and the only a few sparks fly uselessly from his fingertips.
Goblin 3 attacks Vidruth: 5 to hit / 5 piercing damage. Vidruth adds +2 AC for ½ cover.

It sounds like the remaining goblins are running away, and Marten is mostly content to let them go at this point. He couldn't see most of his companions from his previous position, but since he no longer hears much fighting going on in front of the lean-to, he hopes to find them all safe.
Marten looks back up the hill and catches a glimpse of one of the fleeing archers. He hastily fires the last of his goblin arrows, more to encourage them to keep running than to eliminate any active threats. As soon as the arrow is away, he turns and heads back to the shelter under the outcropping. He knows that Nosam is out in the woods to the south, near the goblin that Marten had killed (last round, goblin G5). As he rounds the corner of the outcropping, Marten quickly scans for his other companions. He sees everyone but Berry and no threats in or immediately around the outcropping. As he heads for the safety under the overhanging outcropping, he calls out, "Everyone alright?! I'm gonna check on Sildar!"
Berry thought he saw movement further north and the arrows flying around him are testimony to the presence of the goblins. He flies towards where he suspects a bunch of them hiding (Perception: 11) and lashes out with his scimitar. "Where are you running to? There is no escape!" he tries to intimidate them further.

Daphyra squeaks with anger as Goblin 3 shoots at Vidruth. "Will you just desist and go away!" she yells. She pursues it down the path (U14) and readies Toll the Dead if she sees it pop out of the undergrowth again. (Perception 23)

Kiselina’s eyes open, his view is that of the ground in front of him. Vidruth’s legs come into view as the Half Orc steps up. The Dragonborn sees the Haregon hop on down the trail. “How long was I out”, are his thoughts.
He tries to gain his bearings of the situation, halberd still on the ground. (Perception: 6) The knight hears Marten say he’s checking on Sildar. As he looks around, he notices Berry in the air heading north, yelling at the goblins.“The fight isn’t over”, he thinks to himself.
Unsure where the goblins are exactly, he stands, grabs a javelin and launches it north into the thickets where he calculates the movement might indicate an enemy.

Round 4 Results (cont’d.)
Vidruth shifts position and readies a spell. No enemies come near.
Marten makes another long shot, somehow piercing many yards of foliage to kill a goblin with one shot. When he enters the natural lean-to, he discovers that Sildar is unconscious. Karg’s killing blow was barely deflected, but subsequently smashing against the stone wall knocked him out cold. He is starting to come to.
Berry brings his scimitar down on one of the goblins, but it dodges behind a tree branch, into which Berry’s blade thunks, slowing him down enough for the goblin to retreat.
Daphyra’s Toll the Dead destroys another goblin (G3), which covers its ears in a mad dash to escape, squeezing eyes shut in pain, then runs into a tree, slamming to the ground just before necrotic energy creeps over and sucks the life out of it.
Kiselina finds he is unable to throw a javelin from a prone position (DM ruling).
Nosam moves north toward Marten, meeting him at the entrance to the lean-to
Round 5 (partial)
Goblins 7 & 8 both (bonus action) disengage from Berry, move back a few feet, fire their shortbows at him, then run north.
Goblin 7 attacks Berry: 16 to hit / 5 piercing damage.

As he looks around, he notices Berry in the air heading north, yelling at the goblins. “The fight isn’t over”, he thinks to himself.
Unsure where the goblins are exactly, he stands, grabs a javelin and launches it north into the thickets where he calculates the movement might indicate an enemy.
Move: Remain in Q11
Free Action: grab a javelin
Action: Attack g10 (To Hit Disadvantage: 21, Damage: 9)
Nosam sees the goblin he was chasing already dead with one of Marten's arrows sticking out of him. "Nice shot Mister Marten!" Nosam pivots and heads straight north hoping to get close to Marten's position. "I'm headed your way and then pursuing the goblins unless someone has another idea."
Movement: Head north towards Marten
Action: Dodge if needed
Having just come from that direction, Marten suggests: "They're uphill though the woods, Nosam. Y're prob'ly gonna want yer crossbow!"
Goblin 8 attacks Berry: 12 to hit / 7 piercing damage.
Goblins 9 & 10 dash northeast.
