I have been playing DnD on and off through all of the editions, starting during 3.0 but on Ad&D and learning of the 3.5 updates. Throughout all of my time playing it was always kind of blurry how everything all tied together. Joe Manganello and his character Arkhan stealing the Hand of Vecna allowed me to tie the entire DnD universe together. I have knowledge of the crystal sphere system as well as the plane system... Essentially everything from the lore ties into the original Greenwood and through the old Deities and Demigods book and other resources that is Canon. Here is the Origin story of Zoll-Aiyu and this Realm.
The World of Zoll-Aiyu
Sardior the Dragon god of night, psionics, and secrets once had a sixth thane by the name of Seradess, a female obsidian dragon. Sardior was the first creation of the primordial dragons, Bahamut and Tiamat. Seradess the Obsidian dragon posed the biggest threat to the dragon gods for its ability to absorb energy with its powerful psionic ability, the thane Seradess was killed due to this threat as well as banished. Her banishment resides at the center of the planet Zoll-Aiyu. Once a sleeping dead planet at the time Seradess was banished. Vlaakith, queen of the Githyanki forged the pact with Tiamot and the Githyanki people. Untold and left out of the history is that it was at this same moment in time that Seradess the obsidian dragon was killed and banished to the planet of Zoll-Aiyu.
Githyanki Lore- “Soon after, a wizard called Vlaakith began advising Gith in matters of state. It was Vlaakith I who advised Gith to find allies to help their diminished people survive. When no god would treat her and negotiations with the chaotic slaadi failed, she traveled to the Nine Hells, where she spent time negotiating with the archdevil Dispater. Dispater's price, however—the souls of all githyanki—was too high for her to contemplate. Dispater had other ways of manipulating those foolish enough to bargain with him, however, and he suggested she meet with Ephelomon, the red dragon consort of Tiamat, to see if she could make a bargain with the Dragon Queen similar to the bargain between Tiamat and the Hells that permitted the devils to borrow Tiamat's abishai. With all other possibilities of an alliance having failed, Gith traveled to Tiamat's realm. There, Ephelomon agreed to send a wing of red dragons for the githyanki to ride in exchange for the aid of the githyanki whenever Tiamat required it. Dispater suggested that a hostage would be required to seal the deal, so Gith agreed to become Dispater's prisoner in his iron city of Dis, thereby giving Dispater the soul of one of the greatest rebel leaders who ever lived. “
Forgotten Realms Lore- “Dispater was thought to have mediated the deal between Tiamat and the githyanki, his initial offer where he would receive the souls of the entire githyanki race for direct aid having been rejected. Dispater received Gith's soul as insurance for Tiamat, who would be granting the githyanki red dragon mounts. Unfortunately for the Lady of Avarice she unknowingly violated the terms of the agreement by demanding the githyanki assist her in one of her battles, not in itself a violation and indeed a part of the pact. Unbeknownst to her, one of Gith's last requirements was that the githyanki always carried on the Eternal Crusade against the mind flayers, and by ordering them to temporarily put it aside she had broke the deal and released Gith's soul from Dispater's coffers.. “
“Gith the leader of the Gith was said to have gone to the Nine Hells to serve Tiamat, the queen of evil dragons, as part of a pact between the githyanki and red dragons which was brokered by her advisor, Vlaakith. Zerthimon then told Gith that there "cannot be two skies." This became known as the Pronouncement of Two Skies, a declaration of war that splintered the People into the races of githyanki (those who followed the warrior-queen Gith) and githzerai (those who followed the prophet Zerthimon). Battle was waged on the Blasted Plains, and the githyanki retreated to the Astral Sea while the githzerai withdrew to the chaos of Limbo. The two races have remained enemies ever since.”
The true story of this pact is that Gith never traded his soul to Dispater. Instead, Gith and Tiamat brokered a deal to trade the soul of her thane Seradess the Obsidian Dragon. Gith swore his allegiance to Tiamat and swore to serve her for eternity in order for his race to survive.
Dispater was a master strategist and an expert in intrigue. He had the reputation of being the most calculated of the arch-devils. Dispater also suffered severely from paranoia. It was shortly after this deal was brokered that Dispater unassumingly disappeared. The fact that Dispater left so much of his domain in the hands of Titivilus led to theories that the two were in fact one in the same, either that Titivilus was a disguised Dispater of some sort or that the herald had removed or replaced his master without anyone else noticing. There is much mystery around Dispater and his intentions of taking the soul of Seradess and him disappearing from history.
Vlaakith the 1st helped seal the pact between the red dragons and the githyanki. All subsequent queens of the githyanki were named after her.
Vlaakith CLVII, died after ascending the throne without giving birth to an heir, but returned as a lich, thus remaining the ruler of the githyanki for over a thousand years. Untold in history is how she came back as a lich. Vlaakith CLVII stood out among the Vlaakiths for becoming a lich. Her undying reign and her success at getting rid of those who could challenge her were why she managed to retain her throne for longer than any other Vlaakith.
After centuries of undeath, she grew mad. She came up with the idea to become a deity and started to install a priest caste in githyanki society. She also sent loyal lieutenants to quell any unrest that might arise. These were done to gradually prepare for her ascension and encourage the githyanki to worship her as a deity. An inquisitor caste to hunt down people whom she wanted gone also existed. However, many githyanki viewed her as a mad tyrant who would cause their people's destruction or enslavement at her hands even before she reached her goal.
Mellifleur the god of Lichdom and Magic resides in the bleak eternity of Gehenna, being the god of lichdom he knows all the secrets of life and death. When Vlaakith I died, Mellifleur learned of her pact. Mellifleur began to plot a plan to turn Seradess into an Ancient Obsidian Dracolich God that would serve him. He believes with that power he would be able to defeat The General of Gehenna and take his rule over Gehenna and the remaining planes.
Mellifleur recruited Testuo the fire giant into lichdom and ordered him to banish Chemada the ancient Pyroclastic dragon to the center of the planet of Zoll-Aiyu to create life on the planet by heating its core. the magma actually grows more obsidian. And has made the skeleton of Seradess grow in size. A phylactery that is large enough will be required to turn Seradess into a dracolich. Chemada’s banishment wasn’t only to create life on the planet, but also to make Seradess’s skeleton large enough to turn the planet of Zoll-Aiyu into the Phylactery. Several wizards and clerics are needed to bind the soul of the dragon.
Tiamat realizing the plans of Mellifleur called upon her great paladin Arkhan the cruel to retrieve the hand of Vecna. Tiamat ordered him to retrieve the hand of Vecna in order to free her and to assist him in defeating Mellifleur before he has the chance to turn Seradess into an Ancient Obsidian Dracolich God.
Mellifleur after learning of the pact of Vlaakith the 1st began to ponder other ways to challenge Tiamat. Vlaakith CLVII died and found herself on the plane of Ghenna in the afterlife. Mellifleur started to court and groom Vlaakith CLVII not only for lichdom but to also become his queen. Vlaakith CLVII has been attempting to attain godhood for centuries but Mellifleur has control of her powers and limits them.
The Planet of Zoll-Aiyu once had 3 moons. The banishment of Seradess threw off the rotation and axis of the planet which caused the moon “Arda” and “Zolfreet” to collide. This collision formed the creation of a planetary ring around the equator of Zoll-Aiyu. The Planetary ring is the source of Arcane magic for Zoll-Aiyu. This is what broke the planet's original tectonic plates and caused the formation of the planet's continents.
When Testuo the Fire Giant Lich banished Chemada the Pyroclastic dragon to the center of the planet, not only did it cause the planet to grow life, but it made the planet's elements and climate much more harsh. Compared to the realm of Toril, Zoll-Aiyu has more frequent Tornadoes and earthquakes compared to Toril.
The Halo of Ash is the circle of Volcanoes that formed the Seashell Islands following the arrival of Chemada. Natural disasters are more likely and have overall survivability. Travel to and from Zoll-Aiyu is usually through the Astral plane. However, The River Styx does have portions that can access Zoll-Aiyu.
The Blue Age was a time in the ancient history of Abeir-Toril when life on the planet resided in a single, vast ocean.
The Dawn War between the gods and the primordials raged mostly over this unfortunate planet at the time and one of the primordials, Dendar the Night Serpent, devoured the sun. The temperatures on Abeir-Toril subsequently dropped markedly and not long afterward, most life on the planet became extinct. Thus ended the Blue Age and the Shadow Epoch began.
Zoll-Aiyu came into history when Seradess was Banished to the core of Zoll-Aiyu. Zoll-Aiyu follows the Draconic Pantheon.
Thank you very much. I certainly am capable of doing it on my own. But to be honest, DnD is about bringing people together and collaborating. I am looking for someone that is just as capable to bounce ideas off of, as well as adding to the world. I have a really good idea of how all of the realms, planes, worlds, and how they all overlap and mingle. In terms of what I would look to create from collaborating is mostly building the timeline of history for this planet, Continents/cities/towns, Political Dynamics of factions, and maybe brainstorming some interesting adventure plots. The overall goal is to keep this world plausible to intertwine within the lore of Cannon. "
"Mellifleur approached The Raven Queen with the power of immortality with the trade that she becomes one of his early phylacteries. In order to protect his power he banished her to the realm of Exandria in order to protect his power. The Raven Queen is also Mellifleur’s true Avatar. The Raven Queen grew in power and was never expected to become a primordial god in her own right. It is quite blurry on which of the gods is more powerful, but their immortality is binded with one another."
I've managed to tie together Pathfinder, Forgotten Realms, Exandria, Ebberon, and Spelljammer, and I think the story of creation that I've created ties in every single accessible sourcebook. Essentially Arkhan the Cruel is Tiamat's Avatar and I kind of made the Raven Queen Mellifleur's wife and Vlaakith CLXII his mistress that is fighting for her own god powers.
I have a good idea of what the world map might look like so I have to get into Inkarnate and put that together as well.
Creating a full set on your own is a gigantic task to take on by yourself.
The big plot of the world is the large presence of Githyanki which use this as an aging realm and caste training planet. The planet itself can't be traveled to by Spelljammer ships, and travel to the world is through planes. So I have to elaborate and work on that a little bit. I have to create a concept for the Mindflayer Continent as well as identify the names and races of other continents...
Like, the plan for me going into this was if I can create and ties the origins of all the settings from common lore. The Calamity and the Dragon Wars sounded similar and I imagine from different planets the view of the gods would change the perception of the people that witnessed the event (How he have multiple gods and religions here on earth that have similar origin stories)
I have 10 pages of the Creation story, its 6 pages of original DnD lore that I use as basis, and about 4 pages of original story that I use as the needle and thread of the entire DnD Multiverse. When you build worlds it's kinda like bracket where everything has to tie back to the creation. Throughout the entire process, I am taking the lens and focusing in and out. I will obviously continue to add to it.
So the creation and events are pretty set and I need to expand from there... There is obviously a time period of different ages that will pass from the creation to the present. I don't have any of that yet, I think this is where I might need the most collaborations.
In the past, in the settings me and my friends created we each kind of just took a race and built a history around the race and then identified cities towns, traditions and culture through it. then conversed as a group about where these cities should be located on the world map (Hence why I need to complete the world map) I don't know If I mentioned Nimox the pirate king, but in our original campaign Nimox IRL player created the desert continent land thing, Krunk IRL player created the orcs and their tribes, hierarchy, and I created Highland the Human settlement... but they wrote histories for the continent and then we found a way to tie it all together... but this was 3.5 and more and more books got released and things started to contradict one another within the history.
I am basically at this point now.
I'm not trying to stray too far off, I'm not trying to create new classes and races, I rather stick to what is available in the 5e resources that DM's could pull from easily... I am pretty sure Dragonborn are going to have a settlement here as well, but I am not that well knowledge on that race, so If you are you would be a great help. The Draconic Pantheon is heavily worshipped here as well as having influences of the Exandria pantheon for domesticated humanoids as well on other continents... I'm still figuring out the dynamics of the pantheons clashing.
and probably some help adding to it as long as it fits withing the Canon and it plausible... but Mostly brainstorming before adding. I don't want anyone putting in work that wouldn't be added... Essentially I plan on using this as my campaign world... and anyone else that adds to it can use it too... I don't plan on selling it or anything. but if you add to it you will have access to using the full thing once complete. by the end I'll tons of maps and such... It's way better then Chat GPT settings lol
I posted here originally but they were not active then came here... images of some of the early ideas of how the world came to be are there... Pictures of the planets axis and tilt descriptions of climate... pangea to present for continents... I just have to add too and elaborate... it' a blank slate. It's a blank wall... Looking for DnD Graffitti Artists that look at this blank wall and want to tag it and leave their mark alongside mine.
Also, we are talking about 50 years of Lore and condensing it into what fits across the multi-verse. Because of the presence of the Githyanki and them being interplaner travelers... The humans, elves, dwarves and other races would have knowledge that planer travel is possible but still only for those powerful enough... So there are a lot of little things like this I have to take into account, another set of eyes and another brain would definitely help me with processing it all...
I guess I am also looking to form a group that would play this setting... obviously if you are adding to its creation you want to play it... heck, I want to play it... but I guess really I'm trying to make friends through this process. I have a good thing here to build off of and the pyramids, houses, all of them don't get built alone.
