some context, in a campaign i'm in I play a rouge (swashbuckler, with pirate backround). in this campaign there is a legend about the first pirate king and him making a deal with Umberlee. the first pirate king gained some powers through the deal (warlock) but also a rapier, the rapier is called stormcaller and has some unique effects (reason as to the post). the ship was neigh unsinkable as long as the first pirate king was alive, when he eventually died he left behind a layered map leading to his resting place. Umberlee brought the ship down to the seabed when he died. as a pirate, my character is on a sidequest to find the maps to the grave and the items therein.
the ship is also supposed to have some powers of it's own but i'll figure it out later.
The rapier, "Stormcaller" has an ability to create a storm at it's location after 2 rounds of combat (thnx to a master stormgem), this then grants a bonus in damage and a effect that activates on a nat 20 (critical hit). the additional nat 20 effect if killing it generates a number of storm gems (which gains a lesser bonus than the master).
how can i make the bonus be activateable (as a separate dice roll, seperate from dmg) as to not be immedietly activated from start? and how do i make the crit + kill effect activateable from the item (really tricky as i won't know the hitpoints of the enemies (without metagaming), maybe just the same as the bonus damage effect).
the lesser storm gems would be regared as items that needs to be attuned to a weapon, how would one do that without needing to make countless items to swap the normal with?
Unfortunately you can’t do any of that with this system. You will have to list it all as plain text and remember to roll that stuff separately yourself.
