I'm very new to dndbeyond, just purchased my sourcebooks bundle and currently I'm creating stuff for my campaign.
Because my players and I like the old version of the Warforged more and it got removed as choosable race (with subraces) from the character creator, I thought I'd homebrew it for use in my campaign. So now I'm trying that and I find that I can't emulate the Integrated Protection feature of the old Warforged that grated a choice of 3 armor types, which would offer varying amounts of armor.
I can create a racial trait with the three options, but I can't seem to add a modifier to those options that sets the characters AC to 11 (fixed) + DEX mod + proficiency (if proficient).
Is there any way to create such a complicated choice for a homebrew race or do you have to fake it and override your AC in your character sheet at the end?

thanks for your answer and for moving this thread to the right topic. I'll try and post under the right topic right away next time. You really brought me forward, but I have a follow-up problem:
I have now emulated the different armor types of the old warforged, but I struggle to make them work with the barbarian's or monk's unarmored defense. See, I can set the AC of a test character I made at level 5 to 19 using my version of heavy plating (16 + proficiency, which is 3), but if it is a barbarian, my AC modifier registers as unarmored and the barbarian's unarmored defense bonus is added, so I wind up with 23 (+4 CON). The old rules intended for the integrated protection feature to count as armor, so I need to stop the unarmored defense features from triggering.
Is there a way to do that? Maybe I can set a modifier somewhere that basically say "isWearingArmor=true" or maybe I can add a piece of equipment to the character's inventory that is some modified armor?
For reference, here are the modifiers I used to create the different modes for the Warforged Integrated Protection.
Please remember, whilst you are welcome to create whatever homebrew you like for your personal use, or to share via a campaign, you are not allowed to publish any Wizards of the Coast content as homebrew on D&D Beyond.
Hi, I realize this thread is old, but I could use some extra clarification if someone could give me some pointers.
I'm working on creating my homebrew Warforged. The adjustable armor calsses seems like a really cool feature and this thread answers almost all of the questions fully. I'm just confused how the three different sets of armor modifiers that Stormknight made are kept seprate. Are they three separate warforged species Variants? or separate Options within the Integrated Protection species trait? Or something else entirely?
I can't tell how these three armor classes are separated from eachother.
-Thanks <3

Hey MeinName.

The option you are trying to replicate (Base AC 11+Dex+Profiency) Could be done as such

That is my error!
The Type Should be Set, Not Bonus!
I have corrected my Image.

Hi Timer and Stormknight,
thank you both so much!
The modifiers you showed me worked perfectly.
And thank you for the nice welcome in this forum. I'm not quite used to it and I really appreciate it!
I'm aware that this homebrew contains WotC material and will strictly keep it privately inside my home campaign.
