Hi, I know that somewhere they already confirmed that unarmed strikes don't work for savage attacks but I'm thinking about allowing it at my table so that trait isn't wasted. Would it be too OP?
I wouldn't say so. Monks get more attacks than most very early on and more attacks mean more criticals - but martial arts die are usually much small than weapons for the vast majority of the game.
I mean - mathematically it changes a d6 martial arts average damage (including crits) from 3.675 to 3.85. Really not that big of a deal. Even at a d10 it goes from 5.575 to 5.75. I'd allow it if it was something the player felt they were missing out on. They could always go Kensei though.

Thanks!
I’d allow it. I get why RAW it doesn’t apply, but that seems like it goes against RAI, and the statistics don’t change much as Emmber pointed out.
