Context: I'm running a one-shot campaign where one of my players is a home-brewed Garden Gnome (by user andedun). Because he's only two feet tall, we've decided he can use a wand as a staff. Historically, it was a staff belonging to a gardener wizard, and functions as a +2 wand. It also has a charge-based ability that lets plants grow (similar to the Staff of Flowers). Because it can be used as a staff, it also does 1d4+dex bludgeoning damage when used to hit someone with it.
The problem: I can't seem to get all of the functions available. I've made it attuneable and it shows the charges, but even when attuned and equipped, it doesn't show up as a weapon of any other sort. Am I introducing too many variables? Is this possible to create?
Instead of making it a “wand” make it a “weapon” and use the club as the base weapon for it. You would then also need to add the finesse property to the weapon as well so it could use Str or Dex.
FYI, attacks never add Proficiency bonus to damage. That would have to be listed as plain txt and the damage would have to be adjusted manually directly on the character sheet.
Re: the proficiency: I misspoke, and have edited it out of the main post. It wasn't something I had on the weapon description but I think I was typing in a frenzy of frustration and confusion.
Unfortunately, while the item does show up as a weapon, it still doesn't show up in the "actions" list when equipped, which I think is currently my main issue with it. It also doesn't list the damage beside it when in the equipment list. Is there a specific damage property I need to add? I've tried I think all that would be relevant, and yet...

That's odd, magic weapons should appear as actions by default. If you click the item under Equipment and go into Customise, can you check that "Display As Attack" is selected? You should also see options to customise hit chance and damage if it's been recognised as a weapon properly.

Hi! Thank you guys so much for your help. Changing it to be viewed as a club rather than a wand seems to have done the trick at last - it seems that it hadn't properly saved when I edited it previously.
I truly appreciate the advice and help. We shall see if my player appreciates it too!
