Tooltip was supposed to be iron bands of binding (I used Billaro, but apparently DnDB went SRD). (?)
By no mechanical answer or however I phrased it, I mean there is no defined method for resolution ie roll a DC20 escape, though it's not crazy. Maybe sleight of hand.
If you had some elemental means of damaging the armor and also resistance to it, kr better even, immunity, that would be oretty cool (thinking of my old draconic sorcerer. I would definitely let acid damage the ring mail, but also its wearer). I like the idea of cutting the straps, but my ruling method is based on exceotio s thst prove the rule. That said, I could try assigning a DC for the destruction of the armor, but this is in a world where it is sufficiently difficult to do while trying not to drown that mariners are getting them enchanted for this purpose - so it's a pretty high DC or a nominal DC per strap times n number of straps each its own ca. 6 second action.
3.5 was very clear on how hard it was to destroy objects, 5e us much more DM discretion here. I could rule it, but this discussion is mostly me encouraging creativity, but ultimately I won't say it's impossible, just might work out that way if your Str score isn't high enough. Of its what you want to commit to, though, I can divine a DC or break jt I ro smaller lower DC tasks, but it's up to you. 9 just run the monsters and resolve the effects of your choices.
I like crazy ideas. Not sure if it would work. Being early is rarely fatal for a 10th+ level PC, at least not right away. And yeah, my wizard couldn't cast polymorph if he was bound in armor. Someone else would have to, but I was just brainstorming. Honestly most of what Tyreus has in his statblock is really awful, so being wrapped in a metal sweater isn't all that bad compared to what comes next. You could always just pretend you're a Barbarian and swing sord.
Four Blades fire on Tabaqui. 1 7 for 10 2 13 for 11 3 11 for 7 4 24 for 7
Tyreus blasts the elf with a lightning bolt for [roll]8d6]/roll] (DC18 Dex save for ½) (Legendary action) ,takes place immediately after tabaquis turn, which I think ends with him back inside the keep, let me know if I'm mistaken about that.
(ooc: what size is the armor, is it a medium suit of armor? how far apart are Calner and Hamish? ring mail is described as leather armor with heavy rings sewn into it, and leather armor is described as a breastplate and shoulder protectors made of leather that has been boiled in oil to stiffen it, and the rest made of softer and more flexible materials... can Hamish use his giant's STR to rip the breastplate and shoulder protectors apart or at least off my body and then I could easily remove the remaining softer and more flexible materials the same way someone would remove clothing???)
"How close is Hamish to me? Perhaps he can rip this armor apart or at least tear the bulky breastplate and shoulder protectors off of me?"
The armor is fir perfectly to Calner, so gnome sized. Hamish would have a much better chance of overcoming the high Str DC to break the armor.
Hamish is out in the water east if the keep, Calner is inside the west half of the keep. Hamish is not walking on water, but through it as difficult terrain; as it rises it will be a swim even for the giant. He probably can't make it all the way inside the castle on this turn. He would also have to wade through a half dozen mercenaries, a giant wurm and a pair of water elementals to reach the sorcerer, unless he were to fall out the window or something.
@Brian: Yes. It's the equivalent of a voluntary failed save or any combination of successes and failures possibly with the additional use of some movement. You can swim in armor, right?
<thats a yes, btw. other heavy armor might reduce your speed (w/ Str <13) by 10ft. But not ring mail. Enjoy.>
Hiding in the keep is viable, but Tabaqui dashed out onto the lake. He can dash back in or hide but not both, unless I'm missing something. It's just that hide has a prerequisite of having something to hide behind....
Also, Tabaqui should have rolled with DA,
(so looking at the albeit 2D map in post #2332, Tabaqui is on the outside of the keep wall, and Tyreus is on the inside of said wall. So I don't see why Tabaqui couldn't run out from behind the wall, shoot at the mage, and then duck back behind the wall for cover. Other than possibly the water elementals, there are no other monsters on Tab's side of the keep wall, so he shouldn't be in line of sight of any of them.)
(From now on, when attacking the mage, Tab will roll at DA)
The side view represents a cut away. The walls wrap around completely until broken. I could add dashed lines to show that, they would connect all the terminal points to of the 25' floor segments. Exiting feom center and following as close to the wall as possible would be 25ft to the corner, then another 12ft to the center of the west wall, plus any distance away from the wall. The top down map reflects the path of movement better. In any case, it's more than 30ft, but accessible with the use of dash mentioned at the time. Had he stayed inside the keep, there would be ample ability to hide, but not really on a lake.
As far as line of sight goes, the keep is replete with myriad windows, which, much like the arches in the castle wall, confidently invite trouble to come knocking. It's almost always possible to have line of sight. The dividing wall in the center of the keep could be in the way, but it is dissolving away as the keep opens up.
So, tabaqui could rry to aim through a window- might be considered partial cover especially because of the angle, or he could move around to the side or even back into the keep before firing, even fire through the window and then come back around, but to get out front ir to come back in other than via a window would mean going around the side, greater than 30ft.
<So, it sounds like everybody is in the water, except maybe Tabaqui and Angus, who us hanging from the rafters just below Tyreus. Yes? If im wrong, we'l retcon as needed.>
Tyreus leaps from the rafters and onto the top of the wurm, grabbing at the leather bridle bound to the metal barding on its back. With a grumbling roar the wurm lines from its burrow and I to the steely surface of the lake, leaping over Tabaqui like the end of Free Willy. As the Cobalt Mage leaps over the elf, he looks up at Angus and shouts, "Bother me no more!"
The wizard's finger becomes a laser pointer. Shining a narrow bright beam of green light at the paladin.
Angus, make a DC18 Dex save or feel the effects of disintegrate
Tabaqui stands beside a pair of water elementals. To the west, a pack of six envoys of the Iron Lions, among them, their leader Adra Drakesblade. A few banner of the blades envoys remain on the third floor overhead within the keep and one stands on the arched walkway to the south, which is still lowering toward the second floor of the keep. Simultaneously, the waterif the lake continues to rise, covering the rug bedecked second floor and immersing the humans elves and half elves within to the waist.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Disintegrate damage 72
IL6 shield bash 13 for 8 bludgeoning, lunges with her spear 15 for 9 piercing and bashes again with her shield, emblazoned with the familiar lion icon 21 for 8
On a hit from shield bash, make a DC15 Str save or be knocked prone. If prone, the following attacks will have advantage.
IL1 23 for 921 for 10 slashing + 11 additional slashing on a hit
IL2 18 for 719 for 9 slashing + 4 additional slashing on a hit
IL3 13 for 915 for 6 slashing + 2 additional slashing on a hit
IL4 21 for 521 for 4 slashing + 6 additional slashing on a hit
IL5 20 for 919 for 9 slashing + 3 additional slashing on a hit
While the soldiers that fell i to the lake swim ba k to the keep, the Banner of Blades envoys look out over the grey waters and take aim at any targets they see moving on the surface.
1 x Walks Unable to parse dice roll. for 5 piercing
2 (Northern walkway) x Hamish 8 for 7 piercing
3 x Hamish 8 for 10 piercing
Angus is up, then elementals... Assuming he hasn't been disintegrated.
Angus is up. DC18 Dex save. (It looks like, either way, he has enough hp to not be turned to ash, so that's good news)
The wurm and Tyreus are heading for a less densely populated area of the lake, so if anyone wants to specify what side of the keep they're on (there are 4, all accessible by swimming/ walking in/on the lake) I'll put you on the map. I'm leaving it open since I didn't call for exact locations earlier and I want you to be able to locate yourselves as intended.
* I failed to mention: the hole left by the emerging wurm closes behind it. The water is not flowing into a subterranean area. Both Angus and Tabaqui would know this.
@Syd, to be clear, the rolls are 2 attacks per standard Iron Lion envoy. No AD, no save vs prone required: shield bashes were misses.
