Despite what he feels is a very thorough visual inspection of the area, Val misses something vital. He feels his boot catch something, and Evy's dagger immediately starts giving off a mental alarm.
Both of you roll a DEX save. Evy, as you're a little behind Val, I'll let you roll with advantage.

Sure! I'd allow that. Not that it helped (this time), but thanks for reminding me about it.

The ceiling is collapsing! Evy turns to retrace her steps when she feels Val slam into her side, throwing her off balance. Despite the danger, she instinctively stops to regain her balance. Unfortunately, that causes her to be caught in more of the falling rock. She throws her arms over her head and follows her barreling cousin. They both make it back to the last chamber they were in, but not feeling quite a good as they did before. One of Evy's arms is already turning some lovely shades of blue, but she doesn't think anything is broken.
Both Val and Evy took 5 bludgeoning damage. A 10 was all you needed.
They turn to see the tunnel finish completely filling up with fallen rock, making that direction impassable.

"Well, great," Evy mutters. She incants a spell, and her body shimmers for a moment, then it fades. "We should go, I don't want to get trapped in this hallway if something comes at us from the front."
"Out of the cave, you mean? If so, that was my thought too. Let's go!" Val leads the way back to the chamber that opened into three passages and backtracks their steps down the tunnel that leads outside. There is no time for caution now, so he is running.
As he moves, he asks his cousin: "Is it worth setting up a simple trap? Once we are out, you can crouch by the immediate left of the cave opening while I do the same to the right. We each hold the end of a rope, only pulling it taut when someone is about to step out of the cave? Yes?"
Even fleeing pell mell Evy has to laugh at the idea, but shakes her head, “I’d never be strong enough to pull my end! Besides, I want to see what come out and if they fight each other!” When (if) she emerges from the cave she sprints for the place they had camped.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
You don't run into any trouble heading back to the mouth of the cave. You camped about 60 feet into the trees. Is that where you want to go? It's still not very light outside (the sun is still behind the mountains).

OOC: And by "tied up" you mean dead, right?
Val continues to follow his cousin's lead. He finds a suitable hiding spot and keeps an eye at the cave entrance. He fully expects for all of those troglodytes to come rushing out any second now, and even perhaps an owlbear on a leash.
"Strange that they wouldn't check. Do you think we caved them in? Perhaps that path to the left doesn't connect with the rest of the cave?" Val thinks for another moment. "No, no. Why would they build a trap in that manner? They would be just as trapped as those who triggered it. What would make more sense is that they are quite aware that we did this, having encountered us last night and all. They are probably lying in wait in there somewhere, and I'm afraid we'll have to go back in. Shall we try the middle path next?"
Since you said "cautiously", I'll let you to roll an investigation check.
(Heh. There are lots of problems with running with just two adventurers, and the lack of specialization is definitely one of them.)

(OOC: Oh boy, investigation is not Val's forte.)
The tall tiefling tries his best to discern any additional information on the room ahead.
-> Investigation check: 3
(OOC: Yep, that tracks... In case this edit messes up the post, let it be known that the original roll was 3.)

Evy’s Dex Save with Advantage: 10
Edit: you gotta laugh, right? Sigh.

Oh, and you're pretty sure everybody heard that.

Cast Mage Armor for an effective AC of 18.
Wild Magic! A spell of first level or higher has been cast! Wild Magic occurs on a 1: 5

Yeah, if Evy makes it out before Val, she will head for cover, that might be the trees where we camped.

Val follows his cousin's lead: a tactical temporary retreat.
OK. You make it back there with no trouble.
Evy glances at the tied up trog to make sure it is still tied up, then slides to the ground and lays low to watch the entrance, wand in hand.

(Right, I did forget she killed it,)
Evy drops her head as Val thunders into “hiding” next to her, and gets up into a crouch so she’s not prone when enemies arrive.

You both wait for a good three or four minutes, and nothing exits the cave.
Evy looks over at Val and shrugs. "Do we wait longer?" she whispers in Infernal.
