XANTHthen finishes it off.
VICTORY!
Among the mounds of filth and refuse, there is the remains of a human male, two goblins, and a kobold.
MEEPO goes to the corpse of the Kobold and begins to weep, “Tiz Steppido. Heez been gonz many sleepz.”
The party will notice glints of copper, gold, and silver amongst the mounds of refuse.
(It would take some time to search through the mounds of refuse. MEEPO will suggest taken the corpse of Steppido and Gutash back to Yusdrayl. What does the party do?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Glynt will enter the room and with some Guidance from Meepo and hopefully some Assistance he will systematically look through contents of the refuse and bodies :
The party goes about a thorough and systematic search through the filth and refuse. You will find 55 CPs, 315 SPs, 70 GPs, a Bloodstone (25gps), a Moonstone (25gps), and Jade figurine of a Dragon's Head (75gps).
When you pull the Jade Dragon Head, MEEPO will exclaim, "Oooz Pretteeze."
In addition, on the human corpse are several items: studded leather armor, five daggers, a longbow, a backpack (containing a water skin, one day’s rations, a bedroll, a tinderbox, and three torches), a quiver with six arrows, a potion of healing, a small envelope, and a pouch that holds 20 gp. A gold ring (worth 10 gp) on the human’s finger is engraved (in Common) with the name Karakas’s. From the equipment, this was likely a Ranger.
Inside the envelope is a letter that reads:
Dearest Karakas,
Today a Paladin of Pelor, a Sir Braford came into town. He has been sent by the Clerics of Pelor to investigate The Sunless Citadel. Talgen and I told him we were looking to go there because of the ongoing blight.
Meet us at first light on ten-day at the grove north of town. The four of us should be more than a match for the Goblins of the Sunless Citadel. Maybe we can once and for all end this blight.
Always yours,
Sharwyn
(I will break here to let everyone catch up with this,)
Glynt will say "That letter is interesting, Talon and Sharwyn are Madame Hurcrele's kids that we are here looking for so we seem to be on the right track, so maybe the third set of tracks are Sir Braford" then he will add "Xanth and Portia, which of you would you like the healing potion? Ragdor, Meepo and I have healing magic, so having one of you able to heal yourself or one of us seems like a good idea".
"How should we split up the money? Looks like Meepo likes the look of the Jade figurine, Kobolds do love their Dragons, so maybe he would like that and we can split the rest?, we could do with keeping their goodwill. We should also take the body of Steppido back to Yusdrayl as he suggested."
(( OOC - he also mentioned Gutash, I can't remember who that is))
I'm for packing up what we can, Meepo getting the jade dragon and us helping him get his friend back to his people. I could also use a long rest, I've got one more healing left me, how are my friends wounds?
(I am glad, I just rolled before reading the full chain that I missed over the weekend, and both were misses)
"I would say give the potion to one of you with healing. The less you need to heal yourself, the more you can heal us. Though I would take it if you don't want it. I feel like I had a bit of a rest in that fight, and right now thanks to the two of you feel as good as new."
Glynt will say "To Split up the Gold 4 ways it might be best for each of us to take the equivalent of 25gp and 5sp, there's another 5cp if anyone feels particularly interested in it. As for the Gems I think the Bloodstone might match Xanth's personality and similarly the Moonstone might suit Portia, who's so stealthy in the shadows". I don't know how Ragdor feels about taking the ring, either to keep or return to next of kin, either way we can try to balance things later on." As for the Potion thatis basically a last resort, we just need someone to take it and judging by how hard those rats hit us it's going to be used by one of us eventually so it may as well be up front where the damage is most often being taken, that way if one of the healers goes down you have a way to bring us back up too - that's the reason I try to keep a Healing Word on hand, so if one of the other healers goes down we have a way to bring them back.
The party will gather their findings. the corpse of Steppido, the corpse of the large, bloated rat and head back to the area of the Kobolds.
When the party gets to the Kobold area, MEEPO will lead calling out, “Ticklecorn, ticklecorn” along the way to Yusdrayl.
Yusdrayl was near her throne, when she sees MEEPO, “Back so soon!”
“Weez kilz Guthash great Yusdrayl!,”MEEPO exclaims.
The regal female Kobold looks at the large, bloated rat. The party may notice what looks like a grin, “Well done. Well, done. We shall mount its head and feast on the rest.”
With less joy, MEEPO will say, “Weez findzez Steppido. Heez dead.”
The grin turns to sadness, Yusdrayl sighs, “He was stupid. I warned him not to go out alone.” She sighs again, “Take his remains to the Dark where it belongs.”
“Yezza greatez Yusdrayl” Meepo responds.
MEEPO turns and looks at the party, “Comz. Weez goze to ze Darkz. Weez canz rez there. Safez. Mostly. MEEPO fixez youz goodz dinnerz. No ratz.”
The Kobold leads the party through a door to the north. The odor of rotting meat permeates this chamber. Most of the rusty iron hooks in the ceiling are empty, but a few hold the skinned carcasses of large vermin, huge fungoid stalks, and several massive insect carapaces. On a small, battered bench along the south wall are pieces of nearly useless cutlery and rusting skinning knives.
MEEPO then heads to the western door and through it. The floor is partially collapsed on the east side of this room, revealing a tunnel. The passage is unworked, and it fluctuates widely in width, height, and direction as natural tunnels do. Within the room, hunting gear is racked on the wall, and several pallets lie nearby.
(I will repost a link to the Fortress Level Part 3 to see the areas opened up.)
Carrying Steppido's remains MEEPO begin the steep decline down the tunnel. Within just a few meters the tunnel erupts into a glow as a luminescent lichen grows on the walls making the way easy to see even for those without Darkvision. The decline is steep but not too difficult to travel, though there are more than a few places where XANTH will need to stoop down to keep from banging his head on the ceiling. After about 400 meters the tunnel opens up into a great cavern.
The cavern is vast with a stream running through the middle of it. MEEPO calls out, "I wilz beez right backez." The Kobold takes the remains off to the right.
After a few minutes MEEPO returns. He leads the party to a place that looks like a camping site in the midst of this cavern with its great mushrooms of all sizes. There is a place where fires have been lit. MEEPO goes to work gathering dead fall from the mushrooms and other plants and builds a fire. He then grabs a partially rusted iron skillet from under a huge mushroom. "MEEPO beez rightez bacz," he runs off.
The water in the stream is as clear as from off a glacier.
After a few minutes MEEPO returns with an array of mushrooms. He prepares the party a meal. Large leathery but tender mushrooms is grilled and taste like veal. Smaller mushrooms are added as a garnishment. And finally, with his dagger he chops up a mix of mushrooms and cooks with water from the stream. The taste of these mushrooms is sweet and minty and is a pleasant ending to the meal.
The party can rest.
LEVEL TWO
(Please raise your characters to Level Two. Also, this was a lot, so please feel free to role play anything along the way from meeting with Yusdrayl to the going into the Underdark.)
Portiawill relax, liking the colours around. "What is this place? It is so different from where you live. And are there any tunnels here that we can use to get to the goblins quicker? Or at least surprise them more when we appear?"
She graciously accepts the mushroom meal, a welcome change to the rations she was expecting to be eating, glad to have someone who knew the area better than she did to prepare it.
(Unless it's a problem I'm going to take the Longbow arrows and Daggers. I also create the Bloodstone to make it 25 g. And have we check to see if any of this stuff is magic?)
This place is wonderous. Who far do these caves go?
Glynt will say "I can't Detect Magic with any of my spells myself, it's something I might consider in the future but right now survival in its many forms is key for me. If need be I can perform an Arcana check on them though"
(OOC Ragdor might be able to Cast Detect Magic as a Ritual to see if any of it is Magic ... I have fingers crossed for Magical Studded Leather, as my AC isn't great and it would need to be magic to shrink to fit me, though I don't have my hopes up).

You alright?
I think we should search for anything of use and maybe a clue of with is going on.
He will start to look around. (Giving advantage to the more perceptive of the group.)
Meepo I have no problem taking the body of your friend back.
