Xarkris takes the 7 points of slashing damage from the gorilla and now has 6 hit points left of his 39 max. Xarkris casts HUNTERS MARK and targets the Snake Statue as a BONUS ACTION.
My Vow of Enmity is still in effect, and I can still attack with ADVANTAGE
First Attack: I rolled (3,13) + 6= 19 TO HIT for 2+5=7 Points of slashing damage, plus 6 points of slashing HUNTER's MARK damage.
Second Attack: I rolled (5,10) +6= 16 TO HIT for 7+5=12 Points of slashing damage, plus 4 points of slashing HUNTER's MARK damage.
Sly’s fire bolt misses the gargoyle by a few inches, but Xarkris’ attacks with his axe against the snake statue are far more effective, as after a few fierce swipes, he’s able to topple it.
Bilyur, now nearly exhausted, simply points at the gorilla statue and channels his energy to summon a toll of the statue's soul. A bell tones out, sending a wave of darkness into the statue. The gorilla must make a DC 15 WIS save or take 22 necrotic damage.
The gorilla statue gives a silent roar of pain as it is struck with the tolling of the bell, which deals a significant amount of damage to it [Wisdom Save: 3] Quickly, the gargoyle has gone from mainly unharmed, to showing cracks along its muscular form. A few good strikes with the right tool, and this battle could finally be won.
Daewen shifts her gaze, and the glowing sigil of her Hunter's Mark detaches from the ruined Snake Statue, re-forming on the cracked and battered body of the Gorilla Statue. She then closes the distance, her rapier flashing as she moves into position. With a quick thrust, she strikes out twice with her blade, aiming to finish the creature once and for all.
Rapier Attack #1: 16 Damage: 8 + 2 Hunters Mark force damage = 10 total damage
IF attack #1 hit- Rapier Vex Attack #2: 26 Damage: 19 + 6 Hunters Mark force damage = 25 total damage
IF attack #1 missed- Rapier Attack #2: 8 Damage: 10 + 5 Hunters Mark force damage = 15 total damage
OOC: Holy schneikees....please please please tell me that Daewen's first attack hit, because that second attack is downright beautiful! Check out all those max rolls!
Daewen darts to the right and slams down her rapier into the gargoyle’s face, causing a fracture to develop across its snarling visage. The gorilla statue leers at her, but before it can do anything, she’s thrust her blade back into the crevice and shatters the statue cleanly in two, the stone halves falling apart from each other as the gargoyle crumbles forward. After a moment, the dust settles, and the statues have finally been conquered.
The silence of the room is a stark contrast to the battle's roar. Daewen takes a moment, her chest rising and falling with a deep, silent breath. A small, grim smile touches her lips, and she gives a slow, satisfied nod to her companions.
The glowing mark of her Hunter's Mark flickers, then fades from where the Gorilla Statue once stood. With her focus no longer on the fight, Daewen flicks her fingers in a swirling pattern, casting Goodberry. 10 ripe, red berries appear. They are infused with healing magic, glowing softly in her palm. She quickly gulps down one, healing herself (a measly) 1 HP, and then after surveying her new friends, hands 5 to Xarkris (5 HP healing) and 4 to Mun (4 HP healing).
(OOC: Sorry that is such weak healing, but it's all I've got)
After Xarkris finally destroys the snake statue, he shifts his attention to the gorilla statue and prepares to attack it. He breathes a sigh of relief as he watches Daewen expertly destroy the last statue. Xarkris quickly scans the room for any lingering threats before dropping to his knee and resting his massive head on the upright Battleaxe. Breathing heavily, he gives thanks to his lord for this great victory and tries to block out the pain from the many wounds on his body.
When Daewen comes over to hand him the goodberries, he grabs her wrist and looks up at her and hisses, “Well done, and thank you!”. He removes his hand from her wrist and grabs the 5 goodberries and takes the next 5 rounds eating the berries.
(If we’ve still got a long rest left before the mouth door opens and we’re happy to use it, I’ve got two first level cure wounds and a second level I can use up, and 2d6 healing lights. If no long rest I’ll hold on to the healing lights. What’s everyone’s health at?)
Shiverquill, I understand that we can now take a much needed LONG REST. I want to take the time to change my spells.
Here is a question for you. I think we are using 2014 Rules, but would you allow me/us to use some 2024 spells? The 2024 Cure Wounds spell, for example, is much much more potent than 2014’s.
[Sure, after taking a look at the party’s sheets it actually seems that everyone’s using the 2024 rules, so there’s no problem if you’d like to use features from there if everyone else is (although I’m going to continue using 2014 stats for monsters and magic items)]
The battle now over, Daewen finds a quiet corner to settle in. She meticulously cleans and polishes her rapier, her hands moving with a practiced, silent focus. As the hours pass, she sits with her back against the cool stone wall, her eyes closed, finding solace in the deep shadows that now seem to welcome her. By the time the rest is complete, the weariness from battle is gone, and she feels her strength and resolve fully restored.
Xarkris finds a quiet area and falls into a heavy slumber for a short period. When he wakes up, he pulls out his prayer book and begins to memorize 2 prayers that would have helped him and his party during the last two battles.
It takes some time but slowly, with the battle abated, the darkness clears from Mun’s eyes and her tattoos slowly stop their lurid throb and fade to a faint gold, contrasting her olive skin.
She tends to her allies as need tending then looks around the room before making her own place of rest not much more than arms reach from Daewin.
We’re still so close to the beginning, so many more rooms like these to go. How deep into the Archivist’s collection have adventurers ever reached? How long before we tread through dangers untouched and undiminished? She signs, as her friend cleans her own rapier.
