Witnessing the agression from his friends, Finn decides they’re all in and begins to run. He is going to use all of his movement and then some (using feline agility to double his movement) to get up into the mantis’ face (60 feet total is available to move, it should get him there).
As he runs, the young tabaxi is going to pull the quarterstaff off his back with one hand, jump (for flavor) and twist to wind up a big swing, and as he spins in the air he’ll attempt to strike at the towering mantis’ legs. Attack: 7 Damage: 6
After landing, Finn will quickly strike out with his opposite palm and try an unarmed strike. Attack: 14 Damage: 4
"It's about to strike! And it's deadly! Get away if you still can and attack ranged!" Seraphine shouts at her companions as much meant as a warning as an attempt to get the mantis' attention. Hoping to buy enough time for her companions to get out of range, she dodges any incoming attack.
(OOC: I'm unsure about what Aralin's action is. Misty step is the bonus action but I don't understand what he is doing to protect. Is this a feature he has?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[ the mantis' next attack is supposed to be an auto-crit which would normally circumvent a dodge, but this is the first time I've run this exact encounter and I didn't foresee a PC taking the dodge action, and I don't really like to totally negate a player's best-intentioned actions, so let's try something ]
Seraphine, due to your dodge action, you can make a dexterity saving throw against the mantis' attack roll. If the mantis wins, it gets an auto-crit on you. If you win, then amazingly it misses you!
The dodge action technically also confers advantage on dexterity saving throws so I used that but the f this is a special situation and dodge already allowed a saving throw where there wasn’t one, I would understand if you would ask for a straight roll.
Seraphine dexterity saving throw: 3 (natural 1), or 22 (natural 20) if dodge does confer advantage, too.
If Valerian is close enough to the creature to attack it with a rapier, he'll take that attack and then move back 15ft quickly. (To hit: 16 Damage: 5)
If he's out of range for it, he'll throw his second dagger at the mantis and then step back 15ft, seeing that the creature is attacking his friends and Seraphine's warning. (To hit: 11 Damage: 6)
Finn lets out a roar deep from his chest after seeing the mantis strike at his friend, he’ll unload a hit with his quarterstaff, striking up at the insect’s body. To hit: 8
He’ll throw a punch with his opposite hand, swinging his hips into it. Attack: 13 Damage: 5
Seraphine - Insight: 24

Seraphine becomes certain, by the way that the mantis is holding its arms tense and poised, that it is preparing for a devastating attack.
Round 1
Aralin - shot an arrow
Seraphine - dodging
Mantis - dodging and …?
Valerian - throwing a dagger (reroll, disadvantage)
Finn -
Valerian rerolling with disadvantage: nat 1 + 5 = 6, missed

Rori // Phandelver
(Can I use Finn’s inspiration to re-roll the first attack?)
Rori // Phandelver
Of course, sure
Feeling a warmth flow from his chest out to his hand and extending through the quarterstaff, the attack has another chance to land.
Attack: 7
Rori // Phandelver
(HAHAHAHAHAHA, the dice gods stand firm by their decision that I will have a 7😂)
Rori // Phandelver
Aralin, seeing what Finn is attempting to do, uses (as a bonus action) | misty step and moves close to Finn to protect him.

[OOC: according to the map Finn has gone in to strike and it looks like it failed, Aralin has misty stepped in to protect a team member]

Yes, it’s fair!
The mantis makes a lightning strike at Seraphine with its blade-arms, but she had anticipated it and amazingly was able to narrowly avoid the strike.

Seems you’re out of range unless you intended to move in?
Dagger throw misses!
Round 2
