Having successfully dealt with the trap, the group continues along the tree canopied trail. The shade they provide offering Shynt'lyn's eyes some relief from the luminosity of the sun.
After a while, the drow rogue notices about a six-foot length of the path has been tampered with. The leaves and debris laying randomly across the rest of the trail appear more symmetrically lined over the six-foot area. Closer examination reveals the foliage has been placed upon dried and brittle limbs, which appear to be serving as a false floor over a pit.
Flicking a few of the nearer branches with one boot, Shynt'lyn can see there is a pit about ten feet deep. The sides are sloped just enough to allow passage down and up again, but still steep enough that a less observant wanderer would have tumbled down into the pit, possibly suffering some tendon-tearing or bone-breaking damage.
[[OOC: The group can work their way around the pit if they want or simply go through it, clearing away the false floor.]]
Rothkar: “Hm, should be easy enough to climb out.” He slides down into the pit and runs up the opposite side. Nat 20 Athletics (25 after). He offers to help pull up anyone else that decides to take that route.
Shynt'lyn: after pointing out the pit to the party and watching Rothkar deftly slide in and climb back out again I carefully walk down the pit and dexterously leap up the other side, clearing away as much of the false floor as I can. (Acrobatics check: 15)
Ooc: I'm back. I've been having fun with Microsoft Copilot.
Red Admiral: "Really? This is the second trap. I'll be ready for more, possibly even lethal ones." I do use my wings to help me jump over the pit. [I don't think I'd need a dc roll for that.]
Paget: The fighter relaxes his muscles once again, there's been hazards along the way, but nothing he was too worried about. It wasn't something for him to fight and so he let the others take the lead. Having nothing on his person to help in this situation, Paget decided to rely on his athletic ability, figuring to go around the false floor and jump into the air with a grunt, reaching his hand up to the edge, pretty sure that Rothkar will pull him up if he falters.
Paget: The older man hears a thud behind him and instead of climbing over the ledge, he drops down and looks over into the pit, inching closer. He sees blood coming from Rethos down in the pit, he looks unconscious. Paget curses and looks up at his comrades for this mission."Do we have any rope? Something to secure him so we can pull him up? We can't leave him behind. I know, we've already left someone but this mission is dangerous and we need all the capable men. We can save him" Paget mutters, shaking his head. "We are not leaving hm."He repeats.
Shynt'lyn: I rummage around in my pack. "I've got some rope in here." I pull out some rope, hand one end to Paget, and climb back into the pit. I tie the rope around Rethos, just under the armpits. (Sleight of hand check to see how well I tie the knot: 24.) "alright, he's secure. Pull him out."
Paget: Getting the grip with the rope, Paget readies himself and nods to Shynt'lyn, "I'm going to do this as carefully as possible.. I should be able to but if not." Strength check for the pull (20+2)Then Paget grunts and gently but firmly pulls the rope, Rethos comes off the ground limp, swaying in the air until he's pulled over the edge and put down on the ground.. Paget comes over and checks his forehead. "We need some medicine, he's still out."
Rethos's unlucky tumble from the edge does result in 6 bludgeoning damage. (The dice are not kind to you this weekend!) If anyone has and is proficient with a healer's kit, they can expend one use to revive him without a skill check. If there is no healer's kit available, then someone can make a medicine check.
(Just a side note. As a player, I would not assume that fall would have knocked Rethos unconscious. I could have taken 1 damage and still have been relatively okay. It's why I narrated myself falling down, but not just being KO'd outright.)
Rethos: Rethos lands on the floor with a loud thud, and he blacks out for a moment before he starts to slowly open his eyes. When he does, he slowly sits up, a hand on his forehead. "****... Maybe I should have just slid down the pit if I was just going to end up in it anyways...." He notices the rope around him and slowly slides it off of him. "Thanks for pulling me up." He slowly stands up and looks forward. "Let's just... Keep going, but I'm going to hang back.. That fall hurt quite a bit."
(Down to 3 HP, hah, forgot I had goodberry.)
As they are walking, Rethos will open his hand, mutter an incantation to himself. As he does, the crystal dangling around his neck will glow, and a mist drapes over his hand. Shortly after, the mist dissipates, and 10 berries can be seen in his hand. He pops 6 of the berries into his mouth.
(Healing myself for the 6 to bring me back up to full.)
[[OOC: I would not have the character get knocked out either. 1d6 bludgeoning damage from a ten foot fall, but not unconscious. Just for everyone's awareness, a player only suffers the unconscious condition when their HP reaches 0. However, since ModestKing wrote it into the narrative, I just kinda rolled with it.]]
Having successfully crossed the nuisance of a pit trap, the party continues their trek.
Following the goblins’ trail, you come across a large cave in a hillside five miles from the scene of the ambush. A shallow stream flows out of the cave mouth, which is screened by dense briar thickets. A narrow dry path leads into the cave on the right-hand side of the stream.
VISUAL AID:
MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENT:
Successfully overcoming the goblin ambush and discovering the cave entrance. Everyone gets 75 XP!!!
(Ooc, I apologize for assuming, when I read it, the blow to the head made me think Rethos was knocked out. I probably could have protected myself by saying he was woozy but I shouldn’t have assumed. I apologize again)

(I can see how that could have been misleading lol. You're good. The blow to the head was just to reflect the nat 1 and cause him to tumble into the pit xD.)

Paget: (im good with just going on the trail the same way)
Shynt'lyn:[yes, I am.]
Rothkar is good with the same order.
Shynt'lyn: I take the lead as we set out again, keeping my eyes open for more traps and ambushes. (Perception check: 23)

Rethos: Rethos pumps himself up, knowing that he isn't the most dexterous, and works his way around the side, being careful to avoid the slopes.
Nat 1-1, So 0.
As Rethos tries, he doesn't see a branch sticking out and slams his head into it, causing him to tumble into the pit.
