Red Admiral: I use stealth check (18) to sneak up behind the left goblin. I then attack with my shortbow (20 to hit) (7 damage). I then backstab (I have advantage, I got 7 and 16) the same goblin with my dagger (4 damage).
[[OOC: Red, there's a lot to breakdown here.
First and foremost, I want to address dice rolls and ability checks. The whole reason we use the site campaign system is not only for character management, but so we have a fair and open method of dice roll accountability amongst all players. Not every roll will go as hoped, but that's part of the game and what makes it interesting as well as challenging at times. If the roll doesn't go our way, we can't just change our mind and try something else.
For example, you wanted to attempt to befriend the goblins or at least try to parley. You rolled a Persuasion Check and landed a 7. You then proceeded to take action contrary to what your character proposed.
I'm going to overlook the failed persuasion attempt this time. Going forward though, once a roll is made, we are going to play it out from that point on. I want to make sure everyone is aware of this.
If you accidentally click a roll, just shoot me a message or let us know OOC. Crazy mouse-clicks and finger taps happen. Not a big deal.
So, overlooking the persuasion attempt and addressing your action . . . Your stealth beats their passive perception, but their positioning against and within the thickets would not allow you to move behind them. However, you can attack with advantage (surprise), and move in to use your bonus action for a dagger attack. And t his is where we'll play from . . .]]
DM:
The half-dragon Ranger uses his outdoor skills to seemingly blend with the thickets and quietly approaches the lazy goblins too involved in their game to notice Red Admiral slinking toward them. Positioning himself at an angle for a clear shot with his short bow, Red Admiral knocks an arrow, draws the bow without a sound, and takes steady aim at the nearest goblin. He looses the arrow and it finds its mark into the temple of the goblin. The second goblin is fixated on the dice tumbling from his partner's hand, not even realizing what just happened.
The dice land, showing a 7, and the goblin starts to laugh. Looking up to jeer at the other, he watches him keel over. Confusion doesn't even settle over his face before Red Admiral runs in taking advantage of the goblin's surprise and slashes it across the chest for 4 damage.
The goblin winces from the strike as blood begins to flow heavily down his torso.
Everyone make an initiative roll. The goblin is surprised, so he will not act during the first round of combat. He still receives half cover from ranged attacks. A map is below for reference.
**edit to remind myself of the 2024 surprise rule haha. Forgot it does not provide advantage, but we'll just roll with Red Admiral's attack anyway**
Ooc: alright, I'll stick with my first rolls from now on. In a previous campaign I was in, players could kinda just do what they want (that group sucked, honestly), so... Sorry :/
Paget: As all breaks loose from Red's attack, the weary fighter just sighs and moves his neck side to side, going into a light jog behind Shynt'lyn "The kid got the jump on us. Lets finish this nice and quick!" (initiatve- 18)
Shynt'lyn: I quickly, yet quietly, move into the trees directly to the right of the goblin and sneak attack. (16 to hit. 6 damage. Sorry I accidentally clicked on shortbow instead of rapier.) I then strike with my short sword. (14 to hit. 4 damage.)
Taking advantage of Red Admiral surprising the goblin, Shynt'lyn blind sides the goblin with a devastating thrust of his rapier through its midsection. The goblin screams as Shynt'lyn snatches the blade free and blood gushes from the wound.
With a quick follow up of his short sword, the Drow arcs the blade at his prey's throat, but the goblin rears back just in time to save his own neck.
In the chaos of the fighting, the lithe form of Paget slips in from the side and arcs a vicious kick towards the head of the wounded goblin. He was hoping to avoid confrontation so soon after their last fight, but it couldn't be helped and his kick was designed to end the fight before anyone got hurt.
Paget's perfectly placed and measured kick snaps the surprised goblin's head to the side as a loud crack is heard from its neck. The goblin crumples lifeless to the ground before it ever had a chance to attack or raise an alarm.
Shynt'lyn: I attempt to use the brush to sneak underneath their overlook. (Stealth check: 3+7.)
(Ooc: my rolls have been terrible so far.)
Ooc: I already attacked them and probably killed one of them.

Think I'm laying this one to rest . . .
Well, that sucks.
Shame. I was enjoying it, but understand. Til we meet again.
