OoC: I believe Hyakujuo is not saying it's a D&D monster, but instead they're saying that the name looks like it came out of there, despite it not coming from there. Since in reality, there's no D&D monter called Ghrelin.
OoC: Yep. Sorry I could be more clear. The perils of PbP.
You hear the shuffling of rocks. In your mind you all hear:
"Is that fluffy munch and crunch? It sounds like fluffy munch and crunch!! Come! I cannot see it! Bring it closer and come get the shiny I promised you!"
(I am willing to make it with disadvantage, due to not actually seeing the creature nor hearing its voice directly, but I'll not just assume it, and keep the normal roll for now.)
(I am willing to make it with disadvantage, due to not actually seeing the creature nor hearing its voice directly, but I'll not just assume it, and keep the normal roll for now.)
You get the sense the creature is at least partially insane and driven almost entirely by a need to eat. It does not seem like their is any moral compass to this creature.
I have knowledge. I know how to heal sick Dwarfs! Give me munch and crunch and I will tell you!!
Spoiler for Rin:
I have beautiful shiny for you! Full of power! Perfect to please Lliira!
Spoiler for Anton:
You think you can protect things but you cannot. You are not strong enough. The Dwarf you seek, I can help you! I know where! Bring me munch and crunch!
Spoiler for Leo:
You are furry like your friend. You cannot protect your friends. You are not strong enough either, like the human one. Bring me munch and crunch. I will help you
Spoiler for Delta:
So sad. Why do you weep for your friend? He is gone. Give me munch and crunch. I will help you forget the pain
"This is enough of this, that thing is not a friend. There are two options, we kill it, or we leave this place, no one is gonna get meat for that creature." Leoneiros stands there, trying to pull all of his allies back to leave the tunnel, while he is enforcing them to let he walk at the back of the group on their way out.
(I'll approach this on the idea that due to his high Wisdom, Leo wouldn't be persuaded at all, specially after that first thought about the monster's insanity.)
As the creature speaks into his mind Anton shakes his head as though trying to physically fling the being's psyche from his consciousness. He cocks his head slightly, trying to pay attention to its inflection, such as it can be said to be using inflection during this psychic connection. Is it trying to manipulate them? Trick them? Or is it genuinely just desperate for food?
OoC: for the moment operating under the assumption that Anton has the same read Leo does. If there's more to sense with a 22, I may want to edit this.
"I think you're likely right; this thing is no friend," Anton whispers to Leo (audibly to the other party members as well). "But I'm not sure it's an enemy either. It's desperate... Could it be the Redbrands' captive? We've seen their cruelty; what if they're holding this thing for some twisted use of its mental abilities? I'm sure we could kill it, and maybe that would put it out of its misery... But can we blame it for doing what it can to get something to eat? Maybe if we can find some kind of livestock or wild beast for it to eat... it may even help us against these depraved ruffians. I know that's a path without risk. I'll certainly fight if that's the group's will. But... I'm not sure it's necessarily called for."
"I do not prefer to fight, rather I preferred leaving this tunnel... I don't want to feed it because I fear it will not be satiated regardless. If our efforts aren't enough, the closest thing to it is our own group, and that would lead to more fights, which I'd not prefer to encounter, just as much as you." Leo seems to be raising his tone a little bit, while still trying his best, albeit with quite some difficulty, to stay calm.
“I-I-,” Delta begins with a look on her face reminiscent of a fish out water before her face solidifies into a more familiar rock solid mask of an expression, “I’m for getting out of here. You know we don’t have to deal with these Redbrands, so it’s not essential that we charge into there.”
DM note: you don't get much more of a read than Leo's. This thing is demented and has no morals, but it's not overly interested in killing/fighting either.
The creature once again fills your heads with the same thoughts:
"Redbrands! I can helps you with the red ickys! The big one has a secret room near here! I can show you. If you bring me food! The red ickys give me food but it is old and not fresh munch and crunch. They not keep their deal. They are after my shiny I knows it. I will show you! Bring fresh munch and crunch! "
Rin turns towards Leo and Anton heading back out of he tunnel entrance and says, "Let us bring it an animal, a livestock, to munch on and crunch on. It appears to be no friend of the the redbrands and may help us."
"I dunno like this thing in me head but nor do I relish knocking on the Redbuns' front door." Ordrin twirls his chin hairs with indecision. "Perhaps we buy an old steer. Ach, the poor beast."
"Maybe we can get something from the farm we passed, what was the name of it?" Rin says, thinking for a moment, "Oh, yes, the Alderleaf Farm, let us ask them to sell us something. I bet even a chicken or two would do."
"Blood and crunch and shinys must be free freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee blood shinys freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. shiny shiny weeeeeeeeeee shiny to set me freeeeeeee. Hungry HUNGRY. Red ickys want my shiny but they cant have it they cant HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY"
You hear some more rocks shuffling and what sounds like the chewing of bone
"Well that was terrifying," Anton says under his breath. "Did you all hear that too?"
Turning toward the sound, he says loudly, "Before I make a deal with someone, I like to know who it is I'm negotiating with. If you show us the respect of coming out of your hiding place and letting us look you in the eye, we are willing to find you some fresh 'blood and crunch' in exchange for safe passage through here and information about the Redbrands."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A medium sized ...thing....hops out from behind a pillar at the far end of the cave, coming surprisingly close to you (30 feet) and stares directly at Anton (I need a con save from you). It then hops away into the shadows and hides again 18
OoC: Yep. Sorry I could be more clear. The perils of PbP.
Concerned with the safety of his group, Leoneiros tries to discern what is the creature's intention, by its demeanor in its telephatic messages.
