This was initially an interest check post for the simple idea below. We got some traction, so we have transitioned into applications. For details, please read the paragraphs below and then jump to this post.
The idea: A series of combat heavy challenges. The party enters a chamber with no objective other than simply completing said challenge. No attempt at uncovering some unnecessarily complicated political plot, no pressure to over-RP your encounters. Just fights, hard ones, probably a bit unbalanced too. Power-gamers murder-hobos rejoice! You get to test out that killer character concept you were trying to find a game for and if it doesn't survive and you want to keep going, you can either comeback with the same character or a different concept altogether. It is up to you when to retire that character and try another one. With so many subclasses and combinations out there, this would give you a perfect chance to try them out and test which one fits your combat style the best. I am hardly the first person to try this out, but give it a shot I will nonetheless... if there is interest in it, that is.
The caveat: Fights will be difficult, maybe even a bit unfair, but should be their own reward if bested. Have you always wanted to try your best against that epic Tarrasque but keep only getting into 1st-5th level adventures? This might just be up your alley! The party can be whatever level we agree on, as long as we all feel comfortable with it. A 20th level party may have too many features and skills or spells for us to be able to give them all a fair spin, so we should give this some thought.
The rules: I have a standard set of rules I apply to my PbP games, but we can go over that if enough interest is built up. As for character creation, I think a generous roll would fit the concept above like a glove, so let's just say you can roll 8 sets of 4d6k3 and keep the best 6 out of those. If you don't like your rolls you can go with the standard array, but no point buy.
At any rate, think of this as a brainstorming session. If we get some interest in it and some good ideas, we'll move forward.
It turned out to be fun at the beginning and then follows in a series of almost all the same moves and actions. We supposed we missed all the bg needed to reach those high levels to make a character interesting to play, so if I can suggest you something, try to insert a pinch of a story behind the encounters, perhaps it could help, have fun!
If you're still accepting things, I'd like to pop a character down. Will roll some dice and get around to building a character...

Going with a combat cleric, but mixing things up a little in their build. Basically a Lawful Neutral guy who will fight honourably etc.

UPDATE: I'm planning on leaving this recruitment thread open for another couple of days. I'm seeing some great applications here so I'm inclined to run two separate parties. Let me know your thoughts.
