"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."

A passage — ten feet wide, ten feet high, and hewn out of the rock — runs forty feet ahead. A small lantern hangs from a hook in the wall next to the door at the east end of the passage. Sitting on a wooden stool by the lantern is a balding, beardless old male human in patched and faded work trousers and a matching tunic. He is idly whittling a stick.
When this man sees you, he drops his stick and turns completely white. He throws himself to the floor, whimpering.

Jairus rubs a hand through his hair, not sure how to approach this, as his last attempt to blend in as a cultist backfired with the half orc. He makes a gesture with both hands, and mouths “Somebodywanttotalktothisguy,” hoping that a more silver tongued member of their group will take the lead on this one.
As the group makes it way down the passage Tyde will ask the old man, "Are you one of the Delvers? What lies beyond that door?"

Davian stays to the back of the group. The glade was populated more by furry little animals and whistling birds than by people. This subterfuge and interaction with other people does not come naturally.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Were you kept down here against your will? Cooperate with us and it will go well for you." Tyde will not make any threatening moves but still stand over the old man sternly hoping to impose a sense of authority and compel the old man to respond honestly and succinctly.
(Possibly a Persuasion check: 19 if not just ignore and disregard.)

"No sir, not against my will. I'm a Believer, we guard the sacred stones beyond this door. You musn't go in, disturbing the stones upsets the Delvers!"
(Whoops, should have answered the first question first)
"A Delver? Certainly not! The Delvers are spirits, gods even. Their mortal remains are buried in this tomb."

Symon glowers at the 'believer' but does not interject. The man was a fool, but that didn't forfeit his life. He continues to watch, ready to back up Kethra when she inevitably ignored the warning.

Another medical problem. Indefinite hiatus. Sorry, all.
Jairus nods, adding to Rubin's question, "And what kinda 'sacred stones' are you talkin' about? We saw a kid down here, and ran into some folks called the woe-bringers. Uh, we're kinda dressed like them woe bringers right now, cuz of perfectly normal-type reasons. What's the connection 'tween the woebringers and the Delvers? Also, that kid was stuck in a room down here as a punishment. What do the Delvers do to people left down here with 'em? Give 'em lectures on right behaviors?" Jairus question is actually sincere, given his own odd upbringing, and does not sound at all sarcastic. He genuinely thinks the delvers, if they are local divinities, might lecture misbehaved children.
Turning half way around to address the group Tyde still keeps an eye on the old man, "It sounds like these Delvers might not be human. If we want to continue exploring we're going to have to enter the room with the sacred stones, perhaps we should not touch or interact with them at first until we know more about what to expect?"
Tyde gestures for the old man to move aside and asks the others, "Be alert and ready for anything. We may still encounter some of these Delvers, whatever they are."

"Yes, yes. The Delvers aren't human, they don't manifest themselves in any way other than moving the stones. I know nothing of these 'woebringers' you speak of."
He realizes what you intend.
"No, no, no! You musn't disturb the stones if you go in! The priest helps us decipher them, they tell the future!"

OOC: I think T7’s eastern door is our present destination, then.
Beyond said door . . .

Rubin lets the other speak as he keeps an eye on their back trail, not wanting to let the group get snuck up upon.
While Tyde speaks to the man who was near the door, Jairus examines the door itself for traps, to see if locked, and for any markings or inscriptions.

"Why do you believe they are so important, these delvers?" Rubin asks, stepping forward a bit.

"Well, if the future can be told, it has already been determined. So your whining serves no purpose."
Symon shoulders past the man and attempts to enter the room.
