Father deposits the bite in Son's mouth, before turning to answer the question.
"Like I said, a bird told me. I said, 'hey bird, have you seen my son and his friends?'. The bird was confused, and it took a while, but I got headed in the right direction. I might be old, but I can be fast when I want."

I realize you don't have all the info you might like in determining what to pick up, but I've included your odd scores below, so you will be able to determine how much you need to bump relevant scores to the next mod.))

((Hmmm good question. What do you guys feel makes sense? I feel like opening up the whole spell list to pick from is kind of against the theme, but also don't want to lock you out of adding spells. Would you be good with taking a bit more of an RP approach? Having your character identifying a need first, then choosing the spell that best fits that? Or basing it on things you've seen, or done so far? A bit more organic than the 'what does the class guide say is the best spell to take at this level'.))

((That sounds reasonable! I don't think it needs to be the same solution for each of you, that sounds like a good plan for Blue. It is a bit different for those who lock spells in at leveling and those who have daily selection, but as long as you're making interesting choices, I'll leave it in your hands, but if you wish to discuss any spell stuff with me, feel free! If you want to let the dice play a role, rattle some rolls up with your spell casting modifier, I can riff off of that.))

You say your good bye for nows to Big Un, Ember, and Father.
"Alright my boy, stand back!"
Father spreads his arms and moves to where he has room, before crouching into a fetal position as dust begins to swirl around him, blocking him from view. The cloud grows rapidly, expanding larger and larger before it dissipates, leaving in his place a huge creature with a long neck, comically large beaked head, and leathery wings extending from its fore limbs.
With a squawk, he spreads his wings, beating the air with his thirty foot wingspan as he gains altitude, snatching up Ember and Big Un with his hind limbs and spiraling upward before winging his way southward.

Son, the difficulty of resting safely on the island has been weighing on you, and a vine hanging from a branch gets you thinking... what if you were able to climb up into a tree and take a break.... the sudden flash of inspiration comes on you, and you flip to a blank page in your spell book and begin scribbling furiously. It SHOULD work!
Rope Trick PHB p272 2nd-level transmutation Casting Time: 1 action Range: Touch Components: V, S, M (powdered corn extract and a twisted loop of parchment) Duration: 1 hour You touch a length of rope that is up to 60 feet long. One end of the rope then rises into the air until the whole rope hangs perpendicular to the ground. At the upper end of the rope, an invisible entrance opens to an extradimensional space that lasts until the spell ends.
The extradimensional space can be reached by climbing to the top of the rope. The space can hold as many as eight Medium or smaller creatures. The rope can be pulled into the space, making the rope disappear from view outside the space.
Attacks and spells can't cross through the entrance into or out of the extradimensional space, but those inside can see out of it as if through a 3-foot-by-5-foot window centered on the rope.
Anything inside the extradimensional space drops out when the spell ends.
There! That should give you a safe place to catch your breath! Wait... breath... maybe there's a way to replicate your breath weapon magically?
Son's Scorcher XGE p150 2nd-level evocation Casting Time: 1 action Range: 30 feet Components: V, S, M (a red dragon's scale) Duration: Instantaneous A line of roaring flame 30 feet long and 5 feet wide emanates from you in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d8 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 2nd.
