Merrick asks Louis and Ragor. "Can you save him? He's dying!". Despite Perkins' hostility, Merrick doesn't want a man to die bound and restrained like this.
Merrick asks Louis and Ragor. "Can you save him? He's dying!". Despite Perkins' hostility, Merrick doesn't want a man to die bound and restrained like this.
"I understand your concern, Merrick - but saving him means I might not be able to save one of you later. And he's getting the fate he deserved - it's not the right way to die, I concur, but it's done. I think his nose is broke in and is somehow blocking his air passage - I can try to bring his nose back in place,. A punch from that angle would not have pierced an artery, but it may be impeding breath - his heart is beating but his breath has stopped."
Louis reaches for Perkins's head and tried to put the nose back in place - MEDICINE 13
After that, Louis casts on him spare the dying just in case.
"That cantrip will keep him stable for the time being. Come on now - we need to get to Brogg, strip them of their equipment most of their clothes and their shoes. And gather everything you found in the woods there Merrick in a sack - we're taking it as evidence."
Looking down at his scarf, Louis says, "A lot more red than I remember it."
You have one disingenuous captive, one violent, and two unconscious. This whole encounter has taken maybe 10 minutes. Shadows grow longer with each passing minute. You still have miles to travel yet. What will you do?

Kaemar looks at Bitey and leans down to his eyeline, although far away enough to avoid any attack, she is holding her dagger just in case.
"Let me make this clear, you can come with us alive and on your feet or you can try and fight when I untie you and you will die, one of us, and there may be a queue, will kill you and that will be then end of it. You have zero chance of killing one of us, any injuries you cause will be healed by the gentleman over there and you, let me be clear about this, will then be dead. Is that what you want? Take a moment if you need to but as you've seen I have a bit of a temper and I don't like you already. So what do you say, are you going to come along without a fight?"
".... Come on now - we need to get to Brogg, strip them of their equipment most of their clothes and their shoes and bind their arms behind their backs..Merrick gather everything you found in the woods there in a sack - we're taking it as evidence. Let's move!"
" I can drag the two unconscious ones, if need be."
Impatient, Louis begins using his rope to create a harness for the two unconscious bandits that he can wrap around his waist and use to pull them behind him - after stripping them of weapons, items and boots.
Merrick can you cover us while I tie up Bitey here, thanks. With Ragnor's help they take Bitey' boots, most of his clothes and any other weapons and tie him up readying for walking. Hopefully Merrick will shoot him if he tries to escape or fight. Presumably Lugo is compliant and gets tied for walking without any drama but Merrick could cover him too, while we repeat the process. If this is all ok we are ready to roll and hopefully start off.

The group starts off down the road. Considerable slower than your previous pace. 3 miles remain in your journey to Brogg.
The bandits will be on the lookout for opportunities to escape. We will determine if they notice such an opportunity during each of the 3 remaining miles. During the first mile if the combined perception is below 16 they try to run. During the second mile they will run at a 21 or lower. During the third mile they will run at a 25 or lower.
Mile 1: K 7 L 12 M 22 R 18 total 59
Mile 2: K 7 L 10 M 15 R 13 Total 72
Mile 3: K 20 L 9 M 22 R 20 Total 54
They don't see an opportunity to escape.
So I wildly underestimated what we were going to see on rolls there. Maybe next time I'll do average perception or just use a lot bigger numbers.
The party appraoches the town of Brogg from the northeast. The road has circumnavigated a dense dark forest on the right for the duration of the journey. You feel as though you're being watched from that wood a number of times on the walk.
The town of Brogg is laid out below you at the bottom of a long slopping hill. It's organized in a rough grid. The local mill is out to the south. The majority of residences here on the north side. Looks to be home to about a hundred families.
Sitting on a stump by the side of the road is a grizzled dwarf. He is turned away from you, smoking a pipe and watching the sun set. As you approach he speaks.
"Almost didn't make it. Was starting to think something happened to you."
He turns to you.
"Well then, what's this? Don't recall your message mentioning anything about picking up additional recruits. I'd say they're unwilling anyway which is going to be a problem. Anyone care to explain?"
Sgt Tuugum? We've fixed a little bandit problem you were having, the road should be safer now. Sorry we are a little later than planned but we didn't want to leave them out there to threaten others. They claim they've just been robbing them, we wanted to find out if that was true or not.
Have there been groups turning up half dressed with no shoes?

"Bandit problem? Girl, I don't have a bandit problem. There's always bandits. Always have been. Always will be. The sun is going to rise tomorrow, chap my lilly white dwarven ass and there's not a damn thing I can do about it. Would that mean I have sunlight problem?
Ok, this might as well be your first lesson. We deal in results and specifically big picture results. You were told to get here for training in two days. That's what was needed. Did you do that? Yes you did. Did you come mighty close to not by bringing me two goddamned prisoners I didn't ask you for? Yes, you did. Focus on the big picture and don't let anything get in the way of that.
Second lesson, this here is a clandestine organization. What we don't want to do is go marching around doing things that make regular folk ask 'hey what are you doing?' Let's just get this out of the way and say dragging two dead bodies through the woods to a town is right at the top of that list.
Now follow me, we're not going to do this out in front of the town where anyone can see."
He leads you off the path and back towards the fields to the east of the path. After a few hundred yards he stops in a clearing.
"Ok, put those bodies down there and you two in the ropes stand over there."
Kaemar moves over to the dwarf as the stop and whispers. "Look I think I see where this is going but before we lose the chance to question them can you look at this?" Kaemar pulls out the bark with the red design on it from the camp out of her bag and shows it to the sarge. "Have you seen this before?"

"Nope, looks like bandit scratch marking their territory. Maybe a sign post of some kind. More likely a kind of warning. Meant to be scary. Looks like a couple crowns or something. These guys aren't much for artistic nuance. Right then, here we go."
"They're not dead, sir, I made sure of it. They did wrong and deserve the justice they'll receive, but they were incapacitated and helpless through Kaemer's spell and as far as I know, we weren't cold-blooded murderers - nor are we judges to decide their fate.
And with all due respect, this is a town - these bandits had no idea what type of organization we were in until you mentioned it."
"Well, that's done. Tiamat huh? Traitors then. So, bravo for that but my point still stands. We're not constibles we're operatives. We don't keep the peace. We force it into existence."
"Alright, whose hungry?"
He leads you into town to the Boot and Blade tavern. The tavern has 3 other patrons and two staff. Seems to be a light night. Tuugum waves to the human bartender and makes a motion with his hand followed by the open hand 5 fingers.
You follow him to a table with 4 chairs in the corner away from the other patrons. He motions for Louis to pull up another chair from a nearby table.
“That kind of depends on how you feel about chicken. Best this side of Forgehome…but that’s not saying too much. But you can decide for yourselves.”
One of the staff brings over 5 plates of chicken and the bartender brings 5 mugs of ale.
”Thanks Gus. Thanks Sonya.”
after they’ve left and he’s dig into the whole roasted chicken “I was asking more along the lines of your training. Or are you laboring under the impression that you know all there is to know about our merry band?”
