So this may be a pretty basic question, but im not sure if im reading the rules right or not. So Lets say i didn't multiclass and have a level 20 fighter. When i attack this actually will account for 4 attacks. Now if directly after i were to use Action Surge and attack again, does the extra attack kick back in for a second series of 4 attacks? Or does it only account for one more attack in total?
Sorry, i tried looking through the forums but couldn't find what i was looking for.
Ummm, the Fraternal Order Of Eldritch Knights would like a word... :)
The Order of Gender Inclusive Eldritch Knights would like a word with the Fraternal Order of Eldritch Knights.

Thank you. I for some reason thought it couldn't work that way haha. just seems very op. specially with some of the subclass' like samurai.
Not that OP, really. At level 20 a Warlock is throwing 4 Eldritch Blast beams out that are likely doing 1d10+5, possibly plus another 1d6 if they have Hex running. That's not so far from what a Fighter would do with four attacks. Granted, there's a decent chance a Level 20 Fighter has a beefy magic weapon with some extra damage attached. But that's the Fighter's gig. They hit stuff. A LOT. :)
This thread was incredibly helpful before, so im tapping it in again. same scenario, lvl 20 fighter, champion. Took two weapon fighting. So as discussed before with action surge that would be a second series of attacks. But with the bonus action, if i chose to attack in the off hand, would it also trigger 4 attacks? Or is the bonus action two weapon fighting ability left aside as a different type of action?
The bonus action attack is a separate type of action, it is made available to you by taking the attack action and having a weapon in your off hand but it only allows you a single attack. Even if you use action surge, you only get one bonus action on your turn and if you use it for an offhand attack, you only get one attack with it.
As a side note, you can use the offhand attack even without two weapon fighting style, you just don't get your attribute bonus to damage. (you do still get it for your attack roll)

Please and thankyou :):):)
If you're a 20th-level Fighter and you're dual-wielding, you can make up to 9 attacks on a turn:
* Attack action - 4 attacks
*Action Surge to take the Attack action again - 4 attacks
*Bonus Action - 1 attack
You can use either weapon for any of the 8 attacks made with your two Attack actions. If you use a mix of both weapons for those 8 attacks, you can use either weapon for your Bonus Action attack. If you make all 8 Attack action attacks with one weapon, you HAVE to use the other one for your Bonus Action attack(calling it an off-hand attack really muddles things for characters that can attack more than once without using their Bonus Action). At that level, you can Action Surge twice between Short Rests, but you can only use it once per turn, so you could have two consecutive 9-attack rounds.
Also, if someone has cast the Haste spell on you, you would be able to use the extra action from Haste to make one more attack for a total of 10.
Certain subclasses can add even more attacks to it. Samurai can use Rappid Strike once per turn and Echo Knight can use Unleash Incarnation once per attack action (so it works with Action Surge).
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
This is actually one of my favorite characters--a pure Fighter who calls themselves a Wizard. "Muscle Wizard casts 'Fist'!"

Yes. Extra Attack applies whenever you take the Attack action during your turn unless some other rule says otherwise (like the Haste spell.)

Fighters cannot cast fireballs, so they cast attack a lot!

Okay, most fighters cannot cast Fireball. And even the ones who can cast attack a lot.
