I recently had the opportunity to try out the Wildfire druid class in a couple one-shots over the long, (American) holiday weekend and I was surprised at how dynamic they made the combats. I tried one out at 3rd level and then an 8th level one in what amounted to two separate encounters.
I hadn't remembered the fiery teleportation being something you could do every turn (from when I first read about it in Unearthed Arcana), so, it was pretty eye opening once my character could pop all over the battlefield using his bonus action, effectively. It came in especially handy when a the big baddie had a bunch of grapple-restrain attacks. While we had to stay bunched up (which can have a lot of drawbacks), I could always get us out of that sticky spot. It was great fun.
I guess I'm curious if others are getting to experience that with what they've played of the class? Do they end up playing the role of the combat tactician, rearranging allies each turn, etc. Or have other people run into adversaries that mostly aren't challenged by that?
You remember correctly that in the UA it was once once per short rest. I think this change was pretty huge for how the class works, and kind of instantly made it the best "chessmaster" type build in 5e. I have not tried it out yet, but I have a Light Cleric/Wildfire Druid build that I am very much looking forward to playing soon.
Nothing in fiery teleportation says that the targets teleported have to stay together when teleported. Each could teleport a different direction.
Interesting! that's true. That makes it even more dynamic, wow.
For the particular fight I was in (which was with an opponent based largely on a chain devil), in general, we had to stay bunched up to benefit from the teleportation each round, because you have to be adjacent to the spirit to get teleported.

I was looking for this fiery teleport and did not see it
It's in their wildfire spirit (the pet they summon) stat block.
What if an ally is Grappled???
Teleports don't count as movement, as far as I understand it. So if you're grappled, you and your wildfire spirit can teleport away.
