Well, there is a limit to the number of races they're going to put out in a single UA. We don't know how many the final count will be, after all. Its not like this is the absolute limit. How many were in Volo's, after all?
Oh, I certainly hope that is the case. I'm basically an addict at this point...
Fairy Speed needs to drop to 20 or 25 feet. Fairy Flight needs to cancelled if in heavy armour.
25 foot walking speed seems like it makes sense, but then I would probably increase the fly speed to at least 35 feet. Fairies are notoriously quick and nimble, so I found it strange that they decided to give them a fly speed equal to the typical walking speed of basically everything in the game.
I'd probably even make it so they can't fly in medium armor. You don't see Tinkerbell wearing half-plate while do aerial stunts, do you?
Owlfolk. Nimble Flight cancelled if in heavy armour. Nimble flight dex save limited to your proficiency bonus. If small your speed is 25 feet.
Maybe they could make the Dex Save be made at disadvantage if you are encumbered, and automatically failed if you are wearing heavy armor? I also think they should make the choice to be Medium or Small have bigger incentives to either option, where Small ones have lower walking speeds but higher flying speeds, or something like that. The choice currently just seems cosmetic . . . but I feel like it needs to be a bit more important than that. Or, they could do a base race with the subrace determining your size? Just spitballing a few ideas. . .
...interesting that they didn't do a Goblin of the Feywild or Bugbear of the Feywild....
Agreed. Well, less “interesting” and more “disappointing” for me. Missed opportunity that, I hope they get added.
Heh. In case you haven't noticed with me, "interesting" in situations like these tends to mean "strange choice" or "I have no idea why you did that". Maybe I should be more clear in the future.
I definitely would prefer a Fey-Goblin to a Fey-Hobgoblin or Fey-Bugbear, but I would also appreciate all three. A Fey-Goblin just gives me vibes of House Elves from Harry Potter, as tricksy and whimsical people with big noses, pointy ears, and innate magic.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
I kinda dig certain characteristics of the species being malleable, like size. Means the same statblock can be used to represent a bunch of closely related species without ungodly subspecies or variant species bloat (looking at you, elves), especially with Tasha's Cauldron number flexing. They don't have to print a dozen different subspecies of Owlkocra for every last variation of 'owl' in 'owl person', which is a strong benefit.
Honestly I prefer the "Klingon" Hobgoblins over the "Labyrinth" Hobgoblins, but I do like the idea of Fey goblinoids overall. I still think this would have been better rolled out as a three part UA, first one Feywild all the goblinoids, next Fairy/Sprite/Dryad whatever they get to work among pure Fey (and the ramifications pointed out of allowing Fey that aren't at all humanoid), and last Two Birdfolk and two critter folk. I want a Porcuperson, but it's not essential. Or maybe a Skunkfolk so I can canonically build Stink-or from the Masters of the Universe.
You know, I'm thinking there's a missed opportunity where they could have done sort of a basic template for birdfolk and critter folk and then provide a table similar where the player could pick a pair or three of bird traits (stealth flight, enhanced vision, talons, etc) or critter traits (burrow, leap, stink bomb, quills, etc) giving players like 9 options for critters and birds that could be expanded in future wildwork.
I'm confused. I thought WotC was only doing Lineages from now on, no?
Other than that, here are my thoughts. I really like this new batch! It's not as cool as the Gothlines, but I like the flavor! From a mechanical perspective, my favorite are the Rabbitfolk and Hobgoblin(Feygoblin? Hearthgoblin?) The Rabbitfolk has Hare-Trigger(Very funny, WotC), Lucky Footwork, and Rabbit Hop that combines together to make a speedy, quick character. The Hobgoblin has it's Fey Gift trait, which is pretty useful, I like it! From a flavor perspective, I like all, with my least favorite being the Owlfolk. It's just... We already have Aarakocra and Kenku. Do we need another? Rabbitfolk is my favorite. The idea of a cunning rabbit assasing, darting through the grass and murdering flowers is just, amazing. In fact.. I already have an idea for a character.
Peter Rabbit, Rogue Assassin
He trots through the grass, creeping up on an unsuspecting flower. Then, in a flash he is behind the flower, slicing it in two with a long, serrated, knife. The flower never had a chance. Suddenly, Peter, the Bane of Tulips, hears a sound behind him. The other being tries to attack, yet the hare is quicker. Peter hops towards his attacker, and stabs him. The attacker cries out in pain, then shoots a ball of fire at peter. Peter almost is hit, but luckily is able to not take the full brunt of the fireball with his footwork. Peter then stabs his opponent again, killing him. It seems another Farmer-Assassin was sent by the humans to kill him. Just another day in Peter's life full of danger. "I must defeat the Farmer-King." Peter thought to himself, "For if I kill the farmer king... I can take all his turnips." Then Peter wandered off to another town. Trying to find a way to the land of Farmlandia.
This is great and reminds me of a beatrix potter-inspired campaign setting I thought of making.
I love everything except for the hobgoblin, I love how they're doing "kins" and "folk" races, also this came outta left field for me, but this is a great change of pace.
OK the rabbit gets Proficiency to Initiative Rolls lets hope that if said Rabbit PC is Bard or Rogue they can choose for Expertise to Initiative Rolls lol

Myself I have no issue to fairy flying in heavy armor as it is stated that the flight doesn't require wings it should be based on whether they are encumbered only

You have to choose a skill to get Expertise in so no go for that.
But Reliable Talent just says any Ability check that uses your proficiency, so I'm looking at a level 11 Rabbit Rogue that will always get at least a 19. More if I make her a Swashbuckler.
Note that the rules on proficiency mean that you can't add your proficiency bonus to something multiple times, so Reliable Talent doesn't "stack" with the Rabbit Hare-Trigger:
Your proficiency bonus can’t be added to a single die roll or other number more than once. For example, if two different rules say you can add your proficiency bonus to a Wisdom saving throw, you nevertheless add the bonus only once when you make the save.

It just makes it so if you roll a 9 or lower on an ability check that you are already proficient in, it counts as a 10.
Initiative checks are dexterity checks, so they count.

Same.
My fear is that they go the lazy route and scrap the former in favor of the latter. They can't just give us the bombshell that the goblinoids originally came from the Feywild, throw Forgotten Realms in there while they were at it and then not expand on that. What does this means for the lore?

Heeee... 4e did the goblin + hobgoblin were fae bits. Looks like they're going to bring those back. I wonder if we'll see Formians giants too?
But last UA had shadowfell / ravenloft themed races, now we have faewild ones.... I wonder if we're going to get a big book for all three of the Material planes?
well yeah they actually already did the whole fey goblin thing but said they have had no idea what these powers were and formian giant are in the monster manual

My hope is there is a distinction between the established, spartan Hobgoblin society, and its frequent organization of other goblinoids, _and_ the Fey goblinoids are a different society. It seems though they're rewriting. I mean one person's saving face can be another drawing on community bonds. I could see a riff though. Hobgoblins in FR lore aren't really into the arts and whimsical, you could have Hobgoblins in the Fey who are very much driven by passions. I think you could make a Eladrin/Elf or Vulcan/Romulan distinction here with little difficulty, and the Fey book would just need a paragraph explaining why the riff is. I could actually imagine a lone ago goblinoid military expedition attempting a campaign into the Feywild ... and then become these (with the help of this goblin who looks more like an Elf who happens to be named Jareth). Well, that settles it for my game.

While they are nice (The feyfolk) we should totally give the eldarin a feat that allows them to be FEY like in the lore...
Something like feytouched and feystep feat... seriously. Why is it that most of the eldarin are FEY subtype and the players eldarine are not??? We should fix that!

And also the species could just naturally vary enough in height and weight that it could be either medium or small sized- look at domestic dogs.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
