If they have to reprint everything anytime the make an new book, soon it would be a 800 page book with 80% of it being reprinted material lol
They've mostly only reprinted material from the older books such as the SCAG (and I think EEPC), and mostly because of the PHB+1 rule. Of note, they did /not/ reprint the SCAG melee cantrips into Xanathars with the other stuff they re-printed.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
My comment was mostly about people wanting/expecting WotC to reprint all the races not found in the PHB, the Artificier and its subclasses. That is a lot of stuff to reprint. How many times can they sell the same material just reprinted in another book before people catch on to the fact that it is all the same content. I really don't think that they will reprint all the much, but I do think that they shot themselves in the foot with the PHB+1 rule.
I think that they're going to at least reprint the base Artificer class, and maybe not any of its subclasses, and just have the Armorer subclass for it in Xanathar's 2.0. If it's planescape, I think that they're going to at least reprint some of the more planescape themed races, but not all of them.
They're obviously going to have to seriously reconsider their rules about character generation, because I'm getting a bit annoyed buying the same content multiple times, but I do understand it is helpful to those who buy less, not more like me.

Which is annoying cause you think it would go the other way for the more loyal customer
I think Crawford said on a Dragon Talk recently that they were going to give Goliaths cold resistance, so they’re going to reprint that (though that might be in Rime of the Frostmaiden). I think one of the things that could make the upcoming book different from Xanathars are the races. They’re going to have some races in there, reprints or new, along with the variant racial ASIs. That will add a lot of content to the subclasses/spells. They’ll probably add some more content for DMs, like Xanathars. It could be more planar travel rules, maybe a reprint of the Heroic Chronicle for the Sword Coast, maybe more traps.

Maybe they should just do a complete reprint of the PHB with updated race lore, add in the other races from Volo's, add optional rules for race stats, class variants and call it the Player's Handbook Revisited. Then they can change the PHB+1 rule to be PHBR+1 Rule for AL games.
So, if they're making some races more nuanced and player-friendly, is it possible drow might lose their sunlight sensitivity? It's totally possible to make a drow character work with it there, but I know some people wouldn't play one just because of that drawback.

It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.
They're not going to make a PHB Revisited. That would require invalidating the current PHB, and that's not something they're going to do.
I could see the Drow loosing Sunlight Sensitivity, which I would like. (Currently, if you want to play a drow without this trait, just play a half-drow)
I always wondered why the races were printed in Volo's and Mordenkainen's instead of Xanathar's. Doesn't it make more sense to have races in a Player book than a DM book?

I dunno. Maybe they wanted players to buy the books? It would make more sense in a player book (though Xanathar's does have some DM stuff). I could see them printing or reprinting races in another Xanathar's, especially if they're doing the variant racial ASIs.

Fingers crossed for next week? If I had to guess, they might do some more revised subclasses. Twilight Cleric and one or both of the Druids. With Psi Knight all but discarded, they'll want a Fighter for the new book (probably), so maybe take another look at the Rune Knight? I did like that one.
It's more of a DM book than players, but I guess it's both. Mordenkainen's is definitely a DMs book, not players.
But it does have player options in it. There really aren't any DM or Player source books outside the core books. They are all "both". They do that so that they sell more books. Instead of selling 1 book to the DM, now everyone in the group has a reason to buy it.

I think they try to put player options in books like Volos and Mordenkainens so players buy them. And making the races playable makes the lore connect to the PCs

If that's the case, they could have done a better job of that with the Gith, as many players from my observation still don't know what their deal is (cue all the "Why are githyanki riding red dragons in the BG3 intro?" questions) and/or think they're just some uninteresting space elf race or something.

Maybe its for AL? So its a non PHB subclass or race as opposed to both.
I always thought of Volo’s as a Players’ book.

It's both. It provides a lot of monster stat blocks and additional lore about the Forgotten Realms, information players shouldn't be privy to.

I really hope that we get a new UA this week. Feels like it has been a long while since the last one.

I personally think 1 every 2 months is preferabl, gives us more time to actually test the stuff. But that’s just me.
