True Strike. A useful spell wasted because of its economy. I have two options here as a possible fix. the first one is not all my idea. I have heard it before. The second, to my knowledge would be a new idea.
Option 1. (Operating similar to green flame blade or booming blade) You make a melee or ranged spell attack using a weapon of your choice. you get advantage on the attack. Upon hit. the target suffers the weapons damage. this cantrip does not make the attack damage magical. At level 5, 11, and 17, add an additional die of the weapon to the attack damage.
Option 2. keep everything the same. except, that this cantrip overcomes and cancels any disadvantage or ac bonuses from cover so long as you can see the target. Also granting you a guaranteed advantage on your following attack that cannot be hindered.

Awesome. love the hate on here. So many great personal messages im getting in my inbox. Was just a freaking post about some true strike ideas. WOW.
The first one is way too overpowered. It becomes an automatic spam spell at that point. The potential of having guaranteed advantage on every single attack is exactly what the action economy of True Strike is intended to preclude. That would be broken all by itself. Adding a damage boost on top of that is even worse.
The second one is also incredibly overpowered. This would not only negate all sources of disadvantage to the attack, but it also accomplishes the combined benefits of bullet points from both Sharpshooter and Spell Sniper only better because they only negate 1/2 and 3/4 cover. This would even negate total cover as long as you could see the target which would mean it bypasses powerful spells like Wall of Force, etc. And then to top it all off not only would it still provide Advantage next round the way True Strike does now, but it would be “advantage which cannot be negated.” Dude,* this would be more like a 5th or 6th level spell, not a cantrip. If it allowed the caster to ignore disadvantage and other negative modifiers for a single attack I could see that being balanced, but far less useful than the way True Strike currently works. (*I use “dude” as a gender neutral term.)
Remember, this is a Cantrip, so it is infinite use and resource free.
This was my attempt to fix it while keeping it balanced: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/421057-strike-true) It seems to be fairly popular, so I must have done something right.* (*I had been thinking of updating it so that at 5th level the duration would increase to two rounds and if the next attack missed you would retain the benefit for a second attempt, and then again at 11th and 17th, but that also seemed too strong to me so I decided not to.)
