I've been looking for something that sits between a "spear" and a "pike", in effect a one-handed martial polearm that doesn't have the reach function, but does more damage than a simple spear and can't be thrown.
Not having readily found anything that fit the bill, I decided to start work on one.
In the course of looking for a forum answer to a minor final thing, I also see the public homebrew rules have "Do not submit new base or mundane items".
Why is this the case? Just dropping ideas into subforums as they suggest makes them very difficult to search, parse, and filter. Not really a solution at all - I can't tell why they even offered it as a proposed viable workaround.
While I could understand not wanting all items, everywhere, to be submitted, it doesn't seem to explain why mundane variants of the mundane items they *do* already have categories for are not permitted.

Looking for both reasoning and solutions - cheers
their reasoning is unclear and they seem to ban stuff like this (even on some more popular threads which they said they would not too) no matter what the best workaround is just not publishing the thing if you dont need to
There were restrictions against it put in place by DDB’s contract with WotC. Those restrictions have been lifted, but until they implement a homebrew nonmagic item creator we still cannot do the thing. (If you just make it a “+1” version then it is now a “magic item” and can be submitted. 🤷♂️ )
I did consider basically making up a magical property to avoid the rule, though that seems really, really, bizarre - as well as coming with some issues of varying complexities.
For example, it exists as a low-level option to fill a niche, either it has a small actual magic option (+1 would be too much, but I could add a minor ancillary effect) that discourages DMs from letting their lvl 1-4 characters have it, or an aesthetic magical effect that may not be accepted as sufficient.
Perhaps I should message Stormknight and ask them to provide a clear explanation of why it is still like this and why they are offering non-useful advice
