First time posting and attempting to help my DM in regards to an item they created.
The item in question is basically a floating bubble with a fish in it that grants the attuned person an additional 3 extra languages. Is there a way to add a modifier to the homebrew magic item and have the player select 3 additional languages, or would the player just need to add the three additional languages under the character sheet under Proficiencies & Languages?
You will need to attach the same modifier to the magic item 3 times, one for each language choice. After you save the modifiers, you will need to re-save the whole magic item again.
Hi again! My DM tested this, and put in the Modifier: Language-> Subtype: Choose a Language
But she did not choose the language of choice. So for example, when the party member gets said item, will they need to tell the DM the three languages they request, put it into the modifier in the homebrew, and then update the item?
Is there no way for the item itself to allow the party member to pick said languages themselves? Understandable if not, as that might be a lot of behind the scenes work for D&D Beyond and coding stuff.
Maybe not. Usually those choices happen in the character creator and magic items do not interact with the character creator since they get added to a character and are not part of a character. I’m sorry.
Hello all!

Thank you in advance!
You need to use:
Modifier: Language->Subtype: Choose a Language
