Hey, question. Why do you flipflop between accounts? Just curious.
Because sometimes my phones dead and I have to use my computer while it’s charging.
You can be logged in under the same account on multiple devices. I’m logged in under this account on my phone, tablet, and laptop. I only have the one account, and I can swap devices back and forth whenever I want or need to.
I know that, but my phone account uses my Apple account, which I can’t sign into on my computer, and my computer uses my Google account, which I can’t access on my phone.
Wait. What?
That makes no sense. When you log into D&D Beyond - you can sign in with whatever. Because I have an iPhone and iPad - and both of them are signed in to my gmail account, just like my computer.
Let’s say it this way. I can access my Google account on my phone, but when I try to log into DDB or anything with it, it just tells me something along the lines of ‘this is not the original device for this account’. Same with my Apple account. I don’t know how to fix it, and honestly, I don’t really want to. I’m fine with two accounts.
So all those cool things I get from it are made by stealing from other people. And that creates some issues for me, personally, that are legal and moral and odds are still good that when I turn my attention to an AI art program for a lot of the images I will use for Wyrlde, it will be knowing that I am possibly hurting myself.
I have written a lot of stuff in my years, and I know some of it was used in training an AI program -- but my name isn't in the credits for it, and no one knows it, and I didn't get paid for that use of my work[.]
I don't understand how you can grok this and even personally relate to it as a creative, but then turn around and use AI anyway.
I cannot afford to hire an artist for Wyrlde. But I can afford to pay for a sub to an AI image generator.
If only there was a third path!
The lottery path? or the begging path? I am starting up a new non-profit and likely will have to do more begging than I have done since 2011. A kick is something my insecurities get in the way of because while I may love what I do, I never really think others do, lol.
there are a lot of paths, lol. And I have five months and five days to go, lol. Hell, I may not ever need to use it -- or I may use it in ways that or use sources that don't rely on stolen materials (Which, laughably, Adobe is claiming, only because they make everyone who used their servers sign away their rights for it).

The "not having any art" path. Or maybe the "doing your own illustrations" path.
I struggle to imagine why an RPG book MUST have art.
THe original publication of T&T didn't have any art, but for the most part, art helps folks to fix an idea in mind and provide a sense of connection when dealing with something that is, more or less, entirely fabricated.
Which is also one of the best reasons that AI consistently fails, because it is built up on the *curated* basis of existing works, which reinforces the inherent biases not only in the programmers and the artists, but also in the minds of the viewers.
In creating Wyrlde, I spent hours on Google at different times collecting (for inspiration) tons of images (about 1500) that inform a large chunk of it. Most of it I cannot use for Wyrlde, because of a little twist that exists throughout the setting: the majority of the folks who exist are Black. The vast majority of them. OR at the very least, descended from them.
So pretty much all fantasy art is knocked out right away. Now, I will even note that some of the players have characters who are pale of complexion, and that is very much possible, but the art shouldn't reflect that because that would give a false impression that history and cultural attitudes already play into.
the Art allows one to escape one's own preconceptions. I think about the changes to Orcs over the years, or to Kobolds,, different interpretations of the beasties, the influences of WETA and the Warhammer stuff, the way that Goblins are always shown to be one way if you go down a certain path and then shown to be another way if you follow a separate one.
How does one describe a neo-otyugh? The inhabitants of the Radiant Plane's Dimension Ex, Shiki, have a myriad of forms, but can best be described as small, seeming to combine different animal types, and having dead eyes and not get along well with Kauns.
My Grendels, and entire peoples, are basically Stitch gone wicked feral, lol. But this isn't a cute, two foot tall Stitch. This is a seven foot tall Stitch that plays a ukelele and still rips people limb from limb. They are terrifying because even though Grendel and his mother are never described properly in the Edda, they were still very much creatures of terror.
IS it essential that an RPG work have art? No. Not if that work relies on the existing tropes that already have a gazillion images set forth. I need not have an image of a chimera or a sphinx or a dragon or a unicorn or a centaur.
Wyrlde's elves are short, with a strong tendency to prefer violence, and dislike the wide spaces and open areas. Dwarves are shorter, love the fields and the forests, -- these are not Tolkien inspired sources. But if I don't give some visual rep of that, even if described effectively, people will still default to a Tolkien influenced expectation because that is the point of reference they have, and we are visual beings, sight taking up more space and capacity than scent and taste combined.
also, yeah, they are Black descended, lol. Not Drow, who aren't even a think.
Imps -- I have one image I found of what I want for the imps. Imps here are not demons or devils. They are small, winged, brilliant beings whose basic place is they carve the Underdark, and they have a very distinct and separate way of being. THey raise fungi farms and breed special creatures (like the oozes, slimes, mimics, shriekers, etc) and sneak into cities at night and cause havoc and mischief. And get ten or more together and they are a nightmare for even a high level adventurer.
Stuff like this -- stuff that goes against the grain, or subverts expectations, or creates a new possible pathway? That's the stuff that an RPG needs art for.
Now, I do have the ability to model things. I created digital forms, and I can do basic renders and all that -- but the style of art I want is anime influenced - but in fairness not the anime style most of the AI generators use. Mine is closer to a disney style than a ghibli style, and certainly not deeply based in the stuff most AI programs used to create their models.
Do I *want* to use AI? No. And for a basic reason: AI is just as bad at this as googling is. Where is my dark complexioned, pink haired, violet eyed Spright (half elf/half dwarf) Druid (where druids are more likely to wear masks of animal bone and carry fetishes because these druids are closer to the ideas of a "shaman" in the sociohistoric sense and make use of spirits, including Loa) portrait on Google?
I will note that AI tools cannot create most of what I have noted so far. So in that sense, I am unlikely to use it beyond anything more that creating an "idea" of what I want, and then turning to an artist whose style and ability matches what I want (I have done it before) and commissioning them to take the crap that AI generates and make something truly useful.

Honestly, you really don't need art at all. I get that you have a lot of cool and unique ideas for Wyrlde and that you want them visually represented, but there is nothing forcing you to do so.
I get that D&D products sell better with art, and I do also understand that art can make things cooler and more appealing. When you generate Ai "art" - and pay for a subscription on top of that - you support the companies that have taken real artists' work without their permission and knowledge whilst not even compensating them. The money you put into this goes to those who sacrificed morals for profit, and some of it may even be used to help fund the defense in lawsuits from against individuals whose professions and lives' works now in danger because of this.
Sorry if I'm unintelligible, irritable, or angry. I don't mean to cause offense, I just have very strong emotions about the AI art conversation. And also, I'm on a plane, have a headache, and of course my ears feel super weird.

Wow, all this coffee hate up in here. It’s my favorite beverage, sweet ambrosia, nectar of the gods!!
Coffee is water soaked in vegetable matter. Tea is water soaked in vegetable matter.
Bitterness is a common function of both infusions, and there are a lot of bitter people out there....
I started drinking coffee when I was 12, and then was turned onto tea, and I have started drinking it exclusively (including a period of coffee hate and tea elitism) and then I turned 40 and stopped caring, lol.
