“Oh sorry, yeah!” Agnomally blinks rapidly out of her daze and turns to face Clementine. “I’m not sure what it does yet. It says it can do what I want it to, but there’ll be a price associated with giving it the abilities, I think? It’s not making me crazy so far, which is good. At least, I don’t think so. I asked it what the price would be for the staff I would want it to be just now. We’ll see what it says! It’s really nice, but I feel a little sad for it, because it said no one else asked who it was. It also didn’t answer the question, so it might not really know who it is. I think people thought of it as a tool, not as a being, which is sad. If this works out, I think I want to make friends with it.”
“Well interesting… does it communicate with… words? How? I definitely see no reason not to befriend it, especially if it seems lonely. Just make sure it doesn’t back you into a deal of taking your first born child or anything.”
"If it does, the chances of its name being 'Rumpelstiltskin' are extremely low."
Definitely unrelated side question: Who else now feels like naming the staff Rumpelstiltskin?
I would name it Rumpelstilzchen - that is the fairy tale's original title and the titular figure's original name. And it is the name I know, with German being my native language :-D
Perfect.

Staff of the Battlemage
Staff, rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)
Engraved with silvery arcane runes, this staff helps channel your magic into a perfect blend of weapon and spell. You can use this staff as a spellcasting focus, and it can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff that grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.
The staff has 7 charges, and it regains 1d6 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. When you take the Attack action and attack with the staff, you can expend a charge to cast a cantrip you know as part of that action. Alternatively, you can expend 2 charges to cast a 1st- or 2nd-level spell you know or have prepared as part of that action (you must still expend a spell slot of the appropriate level, as normal).

Wait Plopped, your native language is German? That's so cool!
Everyone but Agnomally: All the way down the hallway, you can see a shadow flicker across the floor.
Arthilas and Verdell:
You notice the shadow is relatively small.
Helmut, that's a really awesome staff!
(It's Semako, not Plopped, but I agree, it is!)
"Good companions, there is a relatively small shadow flickering across the floor at the end of the hallway. I shall see what it is." Verdell, still holding his glowing sword, proceeds toward the shadow. If it doesn't go away when the bright light from his sword overlaps it, he backs up and warns the others that it might be dangerous.
Thanks!

Zuli crouches down in front of the dragon wyrmling and stares it in the face for a moment, "You know... you're kinda cute." She looks up at their newfound companion (DrakenBrine), "Lucky you, you've just entered Tartarus. Hope you like puzzles and mazes and infinite rooms of certain death because that's your life now. Welcome to the family."
Standing up she grins broadly, showing slightly pointed canines, and her green eyes flash before she turns to see what the others are doing with the staff. "Its...lonely? I would be too if I was a staff... you can't walk around...or talk... oh wait, its talking to you? Great, just make sure its not going to possess you or something." She shakes her head, "Rumplestiltskin? You're going to name it... Rumplestiltskin..." She lets out a breath and rolls her eyes, "Whatever."
She eyes the shadow as Verdell advances on it. "Hmm, I like it. ...oh, you broke it. ...what a shame, it would have made a nice pet."
(lol OOC I like the name. Zuli is just...Zuli lol.)

But I guess I can pretend she failed the stealth check.
Those who weren’t focusing on something notice a tall humanoid looking through someone’s bag. Before you could attack, they pulled out an apple and look at Zulu saying ,”sup”.
You notice she is carrying a large bag and a blue dragon wyrmling crawled out of it.
“Name is Ea and this is bolt. Who are you and how many ‘rooms’ have you done?”
That works well for me! Just keep in mind the structure of this forum game, I’m not the only DM. We trade off every so often. I also just have a few questions before I go ahead with you and the rest of the party:
You rolled a 19 in stealth, but when I hover over the number to see what your character’s stealth modifier is, it shows that you rolled a 1d4+15. Where did this come from?
You’ll have to roll stealth for your wyrmling as well, if they are with or near you. Also, do you have a character sheet for your character available to share? I’d like to see it if so, so I can take your character’s tool and language proficiencies into account. And, what stat block are you using for your wyrmling?
Before I move on with the rest of the party, I’m assuming you haven’t officially introduced your character yet? Do you mind if the shadow at the end of the hallway is your character, and you introduce them then? I was planning on something else that was relatively insignificant, but I think this is a perfect opportunity for an introduction. Is that alright with you?
Ignore that last part!
I’ll move on once I hear back from DrakenBrine, but Aroc, I’m not sure if their character is near you yet. It’s just the 6 of you for now.
Nevermind! To get everyone up to date (and correct me if I'm wrong):
You all found a secret hallway behind one of the statues. The hallway was pretty long. At the end of the hallway, there was a trapped room, and inside the trapped room, there was a chest, and inside the chest there was a glowing staff. Right now, Agnomally's trying to attune to the staff after running out of the room with the chest. You are all still in the hallway leading up to the room, behind the statue, but are out of the room because it tried to smash you and then burn you to death. At the very end of the hallway, a shadow obscured the light coming from the room that the statue is in, but no one knows what made the shadow.
Verdell, you can't understand why the shadow looked strange to you. But it still looked strange, specifically in the way it came, and the way it leaves as you walk up to it. And your sword stops glowing---it seems to have moved away from the range of your sword's detection.
Wait Plopped, your native language is German? That's so cool!

Arthilas casts see invisibility on himself, thinking the shadow might belong to some invisible creature, and investigates the shadow: 14 (or Perception: 11). As he does so, he draws his longsword and flexes his muscles to be ready in case something jumps at him. As he looks at its blade, he stops. It is glowing faintly with blue light, indicating that a dragon is nearby.
"Be careful! There must be a dragon close by!" he says. Then he notices Ea. "Oh, hi! What's up? Is that... your dragon?" he asks as he approaches her. He sheathes his still glowing sword and turns around, "Sorry, that was a false alarm. Some new adventurer came here and they have a pet dragon..."
@DrakenBrine here's a description of Arthilas for you (just copied from like two pages ago, lol):
Arthilas is a young, tall high-elven guy with long, blonde hair and a very athletic, muscular body. Tattoos are covering his bare chest and arms, he is only wearing pants with some leg armor and a leather baldric to strap a pair of shortswords to his back. In his hands, he holds a small, leather-bound book, which, as he has just cast a spell from, you can identify as a spellbook, and a fancy-looking longsword with some runes inscribed on its slightly curved blade.
Darklis is a tall, amethyst dragonborn, with dark blue armor and a large flamburge on her back. She has two long horns that curl around her head, and several more spikes that hover around her head and neck. She looks confident but also just tired, she is young but looks as if she has lived for eons.
Darklis description
Darklis pauses in her approach of the flickering light and glances back at the group upon hearing an unfamiliar voice. Seeing the newcomer and her pet dragon, she sighs then glances back towards the light.
(Just so you know, this is not how insight works. You can't just magically know someone's entire past just by watching them... unless you are telepathic and that person is thinking about it at the time. lol Insight is more for telling is someone is lying or if you are trying to predict their next move.)

Also also, we're level 8. Not a huge deal as this is pretty casual, but still.)
