In a staggering display of impatience (and having finally finished concocting the last piece of the next room) the doorway rushes forward to the adventurers in the room, swallowing them and leaving them stood in a strange room.
On the opposite side of the room is a doorway, wreathed in crackling flames which rise up from the floor. The floor is cut with a series of grooves, and arrayed on the wall to your right are 5 levers with a symbol above each of them; reading left to right the symbols are: Flames, a Snowflake, Teeth, a Water Drop, and a Flower.
Above the levers is a riddle:
"Flames, Frost, Teeth, Water, and Bloom One grants release, the rest entomb Two bite and to choose them would be most unwise The neighbors of Biters offer only lies One grows in the sun which it won't let you see Choose wisely the symbol that can set you free For though one kills fire, the others kill you Tick Tock, Tick Tock, What will you do?"
The doorway you were sucked into has disappeared - The only way out of the room is through the door behind the flames.
Me, as a Gnoll druid which have an special flaw that makes me panicking on every riddle I find, I roll an Investigation check........

You investigate the levers and notice that the mechanisms they connect to link to 5 large tanks suspended high in the ceiling out of reach. These tanks all have pipes leading to a trough-like groove which runs around the outside of the room, meeting at the fire by the door. You also notice that a 6th tank, not connected to any lever, is slowly trickling into the grooves that zig-zag their way across the floor - the liquid is oily and gives off a distinct "very flammable" vibe.
You quickly establish from this that:
• pulling a lever will probably dump whatever's in the tank into this groove around the room and feed it directly onto the flames. • The trickle of oil which is slowly moving across the floor will, reasonably soon, meet the flames. This is probably what "tick tock" referred to in the riddle.
You turn around to find the door you came in through has vanished. Repeated, panicked slapping on the walls does not change the fact, and petulantly kicking the wall causes you some discomfort in your now throbbing foot.
The oil is dripping from a hole in the wall close to the floor, where it is then running slowly along the zig-zag of channels in the floor. You notice that these channels ultimately lead to the flames - when the oil reaches them, the whole room will likely be engulfed in flames.

I was considering that this would make a very good "drop in DM" kind of post - if someone has an idea for the next room, stake a claim to run the next room. Keeps it fresh and lets people drop in and out as they go. I'm up for running this for a bit, It's going to be my first efforts DMing so it'll be good to do it in a more casual setting!

You cool if I change the name of the thread to “DM Training Ground” because I love that idea.

Perhaps "DM Training Ground - You are in a Room" so people can still find it easily ;)
• Dertinus, playing an as-yet unnamed Gnoll Druid is investigating the levers and realising that whichever is pulled will dump the contents of a tank onto the flames
• InsertDragonbornNameHere, playing as a red dragonborn named Tiamat, is investigating the trickle of oil which is slowly zig-zagging its way across the floor towards the flames
• Other characters lurk in the zone of both playing and not playing, surrounded by schrodingers cats as they phase slowly in and out of existence, waiting on their players to either return and prove their existence or abandon them to a state of never-having-been.
If I’m not playing the DM anymore, then i’ma play as a character.
I am an artificer, and as such, pull off a bit of my clothes and stuff it up the leaking oil. Problem solved.
You push the improvised rag into the hole and the flow of oil stops. Satisfied, you are about to move away when you hear a quiet "pop", and you see that another hole has appeared beside the first, the cork-like piece of wall having been pushed out by the pressure. You also note with some dismay that the oil is flowing just a little quicker out of this new hole than it was out of the first - not massively, but the difference is enough to notice.
Baby seal in french! I then infuse a bag and make it a bag of holding. Bought some time.
I, an artificer, am going to go look around some more, the following roll is for investigation.

What are you doing with the bag of holding to buy time?
Your investigation yields similar results to the others - The 5 levers each dump the contents of one tank into the channel around the room, which will pour it onto the fire. Based on the oil flowing across the floor, you think it's a safe bet that "one grants release, the rest entomb" means that one will put out the fire, and the other 4 will do the opposite.
Jerry will go over to the oil and say to the dude holding the bag to it “can I have that? If the bag is still in one piece when I’m done I’ll give it back.” Jerry will then flip the switch for flowers confidently. (Hopefully, I get the bag BEFORE I flip the switch)

nono, do his. his is better. that way i can blame him if something goes wrong

You pull the lever marked with a Flower, and as the riddle foretold, "One Grows in the sun which it won't let you see". With a sound of gushing fluid, oil pours down from the tank and rushes towards the fire from both sides, even as the dribble of oil on the floor turns into a gout. It looks like you will not be seeing the sun again.
Sensing that there was some plan involving the bag of holding, I will pause here, in those dreadful moments before the hope across your face is immortalized as charcoal, to see what you had planned to try.

Oh, if you read back in the story you will find the jerry is a pyromaniac, he just wanted a few gallons of oil on his person.
to make it worse though is the fact the jerry is carrying multiple highly explosive devices. Things should be interesting.
