I've been playing a Wildfire Druid and a Drakewarden Ranger in two separate campaigns and I'm a little confused on the pet's movement since I seem to get different answers when I ask. RAW, it seems like the Beastmaster Ranger has the only pet that can move in to attack on your turn. Is this the case? Are pets like the Wildfire Spirit or the DW's Drake only able to move themselves around after your turn?
I'm trying to figure out if this means for example that if the Wildfire Spirit is out of range to hit an enemy with the flame seed, does that mean that I can't move them into range as part of my bonus action when I make them attack?
The various pets and summoned creatures move and act when they say they do. The Ranger's beast companion can move on the Ranger's turn. The wildfire spirit and drake companions move and act immediately after your turn - but that means if you command them to attack during your turn then the effect of that command happens on the companion's turn, including after the companion has moved.
Oh!! I get it now! I was under the impression that the companion’s action happened on your turn as part of your bonus action. Thanks for the clarification!
I’d point out also that drakewarden is UA. It’s a play test. Don’t put too much stock into how things are worded, since it’s not the final wording — and it may not be official ever.
I'd love for the finalized Drakewarden pet to be able to move during your turn. Going after you is a bit problematic in high levels when you can ride it.

The battle Smith's steel defender has the same wording. I've only played this up to level 4 so far, but it didn't really pose a problem.
