such a great reward for a player who you know to love these fluffy killers, have a moon druid in the party involve him in a feywild vision quest that allows him to make an exception and claim it as wild shape.

got a ranger, especially a beastmaster, have him find a trainable cub, a huge upgrade over the normal beast.

Palladin...forget that warhorse watch your enemies soil themselves when they see his armored Owlbear mount

the possibilities are endless.

I know it’s unnatural, but it would be so much easier to tame if it was a beast! I’d love for that to happen. 

Yeah, i agree with you. It's written as an "animal" and more says it well could be. They just don't want Druids to wild shape into it because 5e doesn't believe in the rule of cool at all.

It needs some damage resistances (maybe just resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing), but other than that it's really cool.

In some editions, Owlbears have a language that they use to communicate, with their beaks and everything. I have a ranger whose preferred enemy is monstrosity and whose language learned is owlbear tongue.

Having one as a mount would be cool!

Crazy story!!! We were playing lost mines of Phandelver and my barbarian took the head of the Old Owl Well’s Necromancer as a trophy. As we were heading back, we encountered an owl bear. I threw it the head to distract it, and planned to sneak up and kill it, but he party’s Druid shapeshifter into a bear to stop me. After some negotiation, we agreed to knock out and tame the owl bear, so I jumped up on it, and started grappling, and WE WON. To this day, an image of a dragonborn barbarian wrestling an owl bear will be one of my favorite dnd memories. (Also we tamed it!)

I would love to tame such beast, would be later levels ofc. But I don't think you are able to tame monsters?

Completely agree. The description even makes it seem more like a beast. When something is a natural occurrence in the wild it should be a beast. Even if that means other monstrosities native to the material plane
