Keen Sight. The roc has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Actions
Multiattack. The roc makes two attacks: one with its beak and one with its talons.
Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 27 (4d8 + 9) piercing damage.
Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 23 (4d6 + 9) slashing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 19). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the roc can't use its talons on another target.
They are scary gargantuan birds, my group manage to submit 2 of them, almost 3.
how?
Favorite thing about them is that they are theoretically tamable. The giants used them as mounts back during the war with the dragons so they have the potential to be the coolest mounts possible for a high level party.
Man. Fighting this makes you hit ROC BOTTOM
So it can use its talons to crush or slam a grappled target, only not another target, right?
The Roc can target any creature in range with its talons, unless it has something grappled. If so, they can only target the grappled creature and they will have advantage on that attack. This shows how this creature fights. It is not concerned about beating a group of adventurers in combat, once it has a snack or is going to fly away and devour it, returning only for another when it has finished with the last.
Lowest Challenge rating gargantuan monster in the basic rules
Giants ride these. That’s enough information for e.
I’d probably portray these are larger than a 20’x20’ space.
Yes.
Can I true polymorph into this?
Your name is ******* coincidental.
My BBEG is gonna fly away on one of these.
My BBEG is called Fredrick.
I am honored.
Remember to drop a grappled target from the sky, for me.
Should be beasts
Beasts are nonhumanoid creatures that are a natural part of the fantasy ecology. Some of them have magical powers, but most are unintelligent and lack any society or language. Beasts include all varieties of ordinary animals, dinosaurs, and giant versions of animals.
Monstrosities are monsters in the strictest sensefrightening creatures that are not ordinary, not truly natural, and almost never benign. Some are the results of magical experimentation gone awry (such as owl bears), and others ,are the product-of terrible curses (including minotaurs and yuan-ti). They defy categorization, and in some sense serve as a catch-all category for creatures that don't fit into any other type.
I’ll let you do what you want with this information, but weren’t Rocs created by storm and cloud giants? I think that alone classifies them as monstrosities.
It’s wing span is 60ft
This is important information.
20’ by 20’ are the minimum dimensions for a Gargantuan creature. They are often much bigger. For example, the tarrasque is 70 feet long.
It says its wingspan is actually up to over 200 feet in the first paragraph of description.
If your character level is 11 or above, (s)he can be true-polymorphed into a Roc.
Funny Thing, it can be defeated by a 1th level spell (Beast bond).
Defeated is a harsh word since the creature needs to be friendly or charmed by you. Most monstrosities won't be friendly to start.
