D&D Beyond has to be one of the greatest character generators and compendium resources our there, but without an in-house VTT it feels like it's simply half of what it could be.
Covid, and the fact that remote gaming is my only option for the foreseeable future due to life, kids, locations of my gaming group members, etc, leave me soooooo desirous of a fully integrated VTT within D&D Beyond. Coupled with the interface and intuitive thumbs up I give D&D Beyond? You guys could have a freakin slam dunk of a one-stop-shop.
I know I see a VTT in the cards for who-knows-when? in the Trello workflow link, but man... I really hope to be shown that your team is going to make this happen with a more than competitive product.
I own ALL the content in D&D Beyond and have gone all-in here. Please don't disappoint.
There are already multiple posts covering this, but to answer the question a VTT is in the works, but I wouldn't expect anything for at least another year. D&D Beyond was never intended to be an online play platform so they had to divert some resources when quarantine came into play.

Lightning Strike - A rebranded Fire Bolt for Wizards & Sorcerers.
Spirit Bomb - A holy fireball for Clerics, Paladins, & Divine Soul Sorcerers!
Sword Dancer - A Cleric subclass specifically for the Drow goddess Eilistraee.
There are plenty of VTT already on the market. It would be kind-of pointless to add yet another to the mix, especially one that is specific to only one game system.
Much better development would be spent making the character sheet much better for handling live-play using the sheet; so adding spell effects in a similar fashion to the existing capability to add conditions to a character would help in this regard.
Those others either do a mediocre job integrating DDB content, or don't do it at all. None of that integration is officially supported, after all. And some of those platforms feel like they were made in the days of Windows 3.1 (looking at you, Fantasy Grounds). So either they do a better job of working with systems that don't have a marketplace for game content (this would be things like Foundry of the upcoming Talespire), or they make their own and give people far more reason to live inside their content silo. This is the approach Apple has used, and it seems to have worked out well for them.
Thing is, you can see that they're building it already. A lot of the stuff on Trello page show the various parts that would make up a VTT, like the interactive adventure maps, digital DM screen, and character visualization. The combat tracker is already in beta, as are the dice. The character sheet is getting regular tweaks to support this stuff. So we'll be getting it in pieces and parts over the time before it becomes a unified thing.

While they may be working on VTT here, to get to the same level of functionality that the other players have is going to take a long while. There's already a good number of VTTs out there - maybe DDB waits a generation and comes in over the top of them all in 3-5 years with a licensed 6E VTT?
What I don't understand is why people think that DDB, R20 and FG must play nice with each other. They're three separate businesses selling the same licensed content (DDB is not WOTC). They want you to buy Theros from them, Icewind Dale from them, and I'd bet they prefer you don't create odd use cases that have you trying to import a DDB Ravnica character into a VTT that you haven't loaded Ravnica in.
I dunno why DDB wouldn't just partner with, or even buy out, an existing top-tier VTT, like Foundry. Why risk trying to build something better than what is already done quite well?

Yes and where those other VTT do multiple systems DDB would only do D&D and therefore would excel at the rules of D&D and most likely better then the others, Like I cannot make those macros that roll20 needs well lets just say I do not have the patience to learn all of that crap (well in my opinion)

Its on the long term roadmap. If it comes out before 2022, I would be pleasantly surprised.
DDB communicates what is going on mainly through the dev updates videos. Summaries of which are in the News forum if you like reading over watching.
They generally don't give a timeline of when something will be ready until pretty much just before release.
