Hello, I hope I'm using the right forum, I apologise if I am not.
I'm in a campaign but it is not run through here but I still use D&D Beyond to keep track of my character as I find it very useful. However, our DM has a lot of Homebrew content, which is fine, I just make the spells/items and some of it we make ourselves. Anyway, he's provided my wizard with an item that allows him to prepare a few extra spells each day. It doesn't increase his Intelligence or such as - just means instead of the 10 spells he normally prepares he can now prepare 13.
Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find a suitable way of adding this to my character here on D&D Beyond.
I go to create the item from scratch because there's nothing even remotely close to this in the list of items I have access to on here. I fill in the details and come to set up the actual effect so I go into Modifiers, the only modifier that can work is Bonus so I choose that and there's nothing in the Modifier Type that works. The closest is 'Magic' - "bonus magic" seems suitable. I enter fixed value 3, because I'm increasing prepared spells by 3 and as a precaution I choose the Int for Ability Score field (I tried without this, did nothing). All seems good but, after giving it to my character and wearing it and attuning - nothing. Nothing happens and cannot prepare more spells. No stats change. So, whatever "Bonus - Magic" seems to do, it doesn't do anything.
It doesn't really surprise me that the items cannot do this, it's an unlikely boon that the builder was probably not meant for. This would be ok, I could add an attunement-requiring item that does not do anything but the Character Builder does not allow me to override the prepared spells - once I've hit my 10, it doesn't allow me to prepare more. There's no way to override this (which seems strange).
The only possible workaround I can see is to prepare my 10 and for the 3 extra spells I want to prepare I create a custom Copy of and choose for it to not affect known spells and class it "always prepared" to show up prepared without affecting my max-prepared list. I change my prepared spells very frequently so this seems like a lot of work for so little a thing.
Is there not some possible way of overriding the max-prepared-spells be it directly or with an item?
Any help would be appreciated.

Has this request been fulfilled yet? I have a similar situation to the OP and would like to be able to increase the prepared spells.
There is still no modifier for this, but you can prepare over your limit. Once you have prepared to the limit and the prepare buttons turn grey, expand a spell you such to prepare, scroll to the bottom, and click the prepare button at the bottom.

Holy shiz I did not realise they implemented the ability to go beyond maximum. This is awesome. Thank you for letting me know.

I just tried the work-around posted above and it does not work. Perhaps they "fixed" it so that it doesn't allow bypassing? It seems like the Character Builder should have the option to go beyond the rules for home brew content. On a similar note, equipping and atuning the Grimoire Infinitus in the Character Builder also does not increase the amount of prepared spells even though that item allows that.
It doesn't work when editing the character, but it does work from the character sheet if you choose Manage Spells. It will even show the prepared/max; like 9/6 in the summary in the Known Spells area.

Just checked, the work around I posted does still work.
As for the grimoire, that has already been addressed in the pinned source bug thread:
Known issue: The Grimoire Infinitus includes a feature that adds extra spells to the maximum amount a Wizard can prepare. Currently we are unable to model this on the character sheet for the item.

I tried the work around, but it does not work for me either. When I expand a spell and scroll to the bottom, the <PREPARE> button is greyed out and would not let me click it.
I just tried it today, and it no longer works. I can no longer by pass the limit by clicking the "perpare" button to override.
I use it as a method to sort out which spells I want for the day, and find this very frustrating.
Considering that the ability to bypass the prepared spells limit was glitch/bug in the first place, and never should have been allowed at all, I’m not sure we can really hold it against them that they finally fixed something that has technically been broken this whole time.
Yep, this glitch has been fixed and the work around I presented no longer works. It's to be expected, it wasn't intended functionality, just a rare case of a bug appearing more useful than troublesome. However there's no guarantee it wasn't causing other issues.
You can use a tiresome Homebrew method: make a copy of the subclass. Add a class feature in which you can select an infinite number of spells from the class spell list.

It would probably be easier to do with feats, one for each caster type. Then, no matter the subclass you could just add that on and add the spells as they level up.

I dont believe there is a modifier that does allow an increase to prepared spells. I've flagged this as a request.

Here is my character sheet if it matters.

The trick is to do it not from the character editor flow, but from the manage spells pane in the character sheet.
Here's one of my player's wizard who has the Grimoire Infinitus, already 'over prepared'
If you go down to an unprepared spell and expand it, you'll see the 'Prepare' button is available
Hit that button
And, much like a stressed out Dungeon Master, you'll be over prepared

And I thought that this was a feature, not a bug.
That's pretty crappy to break this "bug". We have house rules for number of prepared spells. Nothing crazy but the numbers are a little higher...
Is there any other way around this? Seemed like the existing bit was good, "enforce the rule but have a work-around".
This breaks our usage. I now have to go back to paper to track spells.
