I am a DM. I'm planning on rewarding one of my players with a new shield in the near future. The Battering Shield item found in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount is a pretty good starting point for the type of abilities I want this item to grant. However, for narrative reasons, I'd like to make some changes to it. However, when I search for it on the Create A Magic Item page, it does not appear. I've replicated the item from scratch, but I figure someone ought to look into this, or tell me what I'm doing wrong. FWIW, I do own EGtW in DnD Beyond, so I don't think that's the issue.
Thank you for checking this out. I looked into it a little bit further since you confirmed it works for you. It turns out that I do NOT, in fact, own Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. My confusion stemmed from the fact that I can read the sourcebook if I click on anything in the Table of Contents. I can add the Battering Shield to my PC's inventories. I can even add monsters from the book into the Encounter Builder, complete with full details pages. Normally when I attempt to do that with content I don't own (such as the updated monsters in Monsters of the Multiverse), it takes me to the Marketplace page to purchase the book. It's like I have a partial content license to EGtW, even though I certainly don't (I verified on my account page). So, I'm going to leave the thread up for the time being, but I think my inability to find the Battering Shield template is solved.
If you have Content Sharing turned on for your campaign(s), then it's sharing all your players' books with the group, not just yours. One of the players must own the book, and that's how you're able to read it and use the content from it. But you need to actually own a thing in order to use it as a template for homebrew.
Edit: You can certainly individually purchase just the Shield from Wildemount, that will let you use it for homebrew, and is more cost-effective if you don't want the full book.
Thank you for the clarification! I assumed that content sharing in a campaign was a one way street (players get my content, not the other way around). Good to know that that isn't the case!
In fact, it doesn't even need to be the DM who does the Content Sharing - so long as someone in the campaign has a Master Sub, they can enable it for the campaign (the DM gets to choose which books people are allowed to read, though.) And since it shares everyone's books, the DM & players can purchase different books, helping to share the load.

The content is shared but only in compendium form and for characters within the campaign.
So that means that the DM and players can read any of the books using the megamenu at the top of the screen, as well as using any magic items, subclasses, races, spells, etc, on characters within that campaign only.
Content sharing does not allow you to base homebrew off of content you do not own.

And/or, make sure that you purchased the full Wildemount book, as opposed to the compendium-only version.
