Either I'm not seeing it, or there isn't a way to set the recovery on spells you add to magic items.
I made an instrument of the bards and added spells to it. They show up as "at-will" on the character sheet and the recovery type section of the table remains blank, with no field in the edit page to change it.
I am experiencing the same issue. I've added a spell to my item. When I edit my item, and expand the "spells" section (the little plus-sign next to the "Add A Spell"-button), one of the columns is titled Recovery Type. If I edit the spell I've added to my item, theres no way to specify that I want the spell to be castable for example once per long rest.
I think I noticed problems with three of my items, and this seems the most relevant thread.
First issue : The spells of my doss lute are counted as "7 charges" while it should be "one charge per spell" - Without the differentiation I can't keep track within DnD Beyond of which spells have been used for the day. Only how many. There is also an issue with the "charges" for the "shard of the ise rune" : It shows 2 charges, when there is only one spell with one charge per short rest, as well as 2 different actions also each once per short/long rest.
Second item/issue : The "alchemy jug" and the "doss lute" reset at dawn. There is no way to trigger "dawn" to automate those resets (like a short rest and long rest would reset other things).
Third issue : The special actions given by the "alchemy jug" (choice of liquid and pouring) and the "shard of the ise rune" ("frigid touch" and "icy mantle") don't show up in the possible actions (not even in the "limited uses" section).
Fourth issue : The "shard of the ise rune" has a number of special actions and a spell that should be reset after a short or long rest. Those are not reset nor mentionned when using the short or long rest features.
I know that some things in some magical items can't be properly coded maybe, like the "gift of frost" - it destroys the shard of the ise rune and transforms another object. But the issues above I think could fit in the system :-)

Unfortunately magic items currently do not support actions being added to them. The same goes for homebrew magic items. Hopefully this will change in the future (I've seen it requested a few times throughout the forums) but for now, there is an alternate solution. You can add these actions as a Custom action to your sheet manually. Not ideal, but it is a useful fix in the interim.
I saw a post from StormKnight (I think? May have been another mod) this morning on one of the feedback/bug threads that mentions that magic items is intended for a big overhaul, having been the first of the homebrew system made it's missing newer features. So hopefully that will include proper recovery methods!
I added two new actions for my shard of the ise rune, but i couldn't find where to set the "limited use - reset on short & long rests" part. Well. Maybe my GM knows how ^^
currently magic items do not automatically gain charges when you activate a short rest or long rest on the character sheet.
A lot of official items with charges don't recharge on a long rest - they recharge "at dawn" and to make matters more complicated, many of them have a variable number of charges gained when they do recharge.
I know it can be a pain to remember to manually add charges back to items on the character sheet.
To properly support the various recharge mechanics possible with D&D magical items, there needs to be a chunk of work completed to add versatile options. These may result in additional options under the rest mechanics such as, "it's dawn" and "it's dusk"
It is my understanding that this work is on the roadmap, so for now please be patient.
id like an update on the progress of updating magical items. i am currently trying to create items that add actions and spells. currently, the spell charges have no way of recharging and i have to add actions Manually which is not ideal because lets say they stop using the item or switch to another ive created i have to switch all the actions around which is something i can only do after the session. i understand that this kind of thing takes while but an update would be vary much appreciated. thank you so much for the time and effort.

Hey there neighbor,
The way the spell charges recharge currently, during the session, either at sun up, or as soon as the PCs finish their long rest of “Dawn” happened while they were sleeping, the DM says something along the lines of “Okay, dawn has happened. Everybody reset your magic items.” And then the players know to hit the little boxes individually to uncheck them. That’s all it really takes at the moment.
The issues are that “Dawn” and “Long Rest” are usually not the same time. And there is no “game time clock” for the system to track for us. (With a bajillian different DM’s running between 1-3 bajillian campaigns all with their own clocks and calendars.... And then, sometimes “one day” can sometimes take many sessions, and other times, one game session can cover multiple days.
One suggestion I had made was to somehow incorporate a “Dawn” button into the campaign. If I recall it got flagged as a suggestion, so maybe they liked the idea. And since they are working on a “Virtual DM’s Screen” that I might be the place they would put that kinda thing, so keep an eye out for news about that if you want to know more.
Another thing I had suggested was to incorporate the Digital Dice Roller with magic items to allow us to roll our refreshed charges. That way when it says "This [whatever] regains 1dX + Y expended charges daily at dawn.” We could just hit the button and get our result right there. If this is a particular feature you would be interested in, you can request it here https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/d-d-beyond-feedback/digital-dice-feedback. Feel free to start a thread for that, or there’s also a pretty popular “general requests” thread you could use if you prefer.
DDB doesn’t release information about coming updates and features. They tell us they are working on a DM’s Screen and improvements to the Digital Dice. Then we hear not much about it for a while. Then, all of a sudden subscribers have access to a brand new alpha feature like a new DM’s Screen. Or one day, people look at our character sheets and see that the Dice Roller can suddenly do more things. Those are the things you gotta keep your eye out for.
Thank you for the help! i figured out the spell issue. i set the charges for the spell to be cast at 1 and didnt give the weapon any actual charges on itself.
i still hope we can get a better way of integrating features into weapons. i know thats a bigger ask than i can imagine but maybe a system where you can just add in the feature in a description box. then what mods youd like to add and damage ect...
The issue i was facing was that the weapon gave a player 2 charges of the spell Wind Wall. but when you clicked the button to cast it it would drop to one then again to 0....after that there was no way to recharge the spell to make the button clickable again...that was because i gave the spell a cost of 1 charge but didn't give the actual weapon any spell slots to cast from... if that makes sense.

Doing it all from txt would be next to impossible with current technology. They would have to use something on the order of Google’s not so secret AI and then give it years to learn how to read what people write and decider what the means. There are actual people who cannot do that sometimes, teaching an AI to do that will take years. Add to that the facts of bad spelling, and inconsistent grammar and punctuation across tens of thousands of users....
Currently, one can get the system to do quite a lot if one can learn the homebrewer. If you need help, you can simply ask a question on how to do something by posting a thread in the Homebrew & House Rules forum. Usually some friendly user, will pop in and help if they know how. And if a friendly one doesn’t then I usually will. 😜 And DDB is currently in the process of upgrading it to do way more for us too. That will take some time however.

Just confirming that this issue is still ongoing.
Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. Thought I just couldn't find it for the longest time.
How we looking on this front?

That is useful to know at least for the actions. Thanks! I might create custom actions!
Reset at dawn is still something i'd love to have though, as well as differentiated "charges" :)

I think you wanted to recover spellslots withouth spending time in doing a short/long rest, am I right ??
If this item would be implemented, I imagine how many wizards gonna fight each other just to obtain it........ hahaha.
