Within the Action Section for Standard Actions... clicking on "Cast a Spell" shows Combat Action details for casting a spell within the side panel. It would be nice if the Side Panel also showed spells you have prepared / know so you can quickly cast a spell from the Standard Action section. This could also be the case for "Attack" showing a list of attacks you can do.
I hate the new layout my group is still new to this and we liked the simplified layout you guys used but now its very complex and there doesn't seem to be much a difference to using this site to just pen and paper anymore.
Strength checks to push, pull, drag, lift, or break something. Athletics doesn't apply in these instances.
Constitution checks to hold your breath or otherwise exert yourself in ways a saving throw doesn't apply.
Intelligence check to recall information not related to historical events. Just drawing on recent memory, for instance.
Counterspell / Dispel Magic (Spellcasters are my favorite play style)
So you're really trying to tell me that these things come up often enough that they warrant a large area and prominent position that crowds out other things? And that you can't easily glance at or figure out your bonus in those few instances where it is necessary? Or that you forget your spellcasting ability modifier so often, despite loving spellcasters and using counterspell a lot, that you need to reference it constantly? Or that you've got every single skill with proficiency so that you can't reference the skill list to see what your base ability modifier is?

For the exported char sheet Spell List, two requests:
1) can we please have the full spell list printed out instead of just the prepared spells. We're not going to print out a separate list every time we change our daily prepared spells - just easier to mark on the sheet which spells are prepared
2) in the notes section of each spell in the spell list, can we please have an abbreviated summary of what the spell does, focusing only on any in game mechanics. This will save endless flipping through the PHB for reasonably common spells.
Overall, this is a great enhancement, you've done a great job! Keep it up!
The PDF export does list all known spells (or the full spell list). If this is not happening for you, we'll need to dig into why it's not working for your character. I just looked on several of mine and it is working as intended.
The Notes section for the PDF will be populated with the Notes from the spell list on the digital sheet - we ran into a few issues making that happen for the first pass, but it's on the short list.
Thanks!
Thanks for the reply! All good. Just ran it again and everything rendered correctly. Must have been a glitch for the first time (checked against a 20th Level Paladin and only two 5th level Oath spells were visible)
good to hear about the spells notes sections! Keep up the great work team!
Badeye or other developer, is there any plan to provide the desktop view to mobile devices? I much prefer the desktop view even on a smaller iPad. I’m 100% ok with being patient but it would be nice to know if there are plans to revisit desktop view for mobile. If the mobile view is all we’ll be getting for iPad, I’d just like to know so I can inform my group and help them to more effectively use the character sheets. I love the update and think it’s very handy and well put together but I’m sure it’s known that the desktop view is much more useful than the way the mobile is laid out. Thanks for all you do!
This!
I believe they said they are looking at making the view available on 10.5 inch iPad Pros, but no word yet on smaller devices like the normal iPad or the Minis that the cast of CR use.
From what I have read, iPad minis have denser pixels and also have a 1024 screen width when in landscape orientation. If they adjust it to fit in that screen width, I believe that all iPads will be able to use the desktop view in landscape orientation.
The very real challenge is fitting all of this into a 1024 pixel area while not looking completely ridiculous on 2k or 4k monitors (even 1920 ones looks strange at 1024).
There is no great way to scale with a web app that has as much information density as a character sheet. The current thought is that we will continue to have the 1200 view (as it is now but with some of the minor layout changes I mentioned) and a (separate by necessity) 1024 view that will allow any kind of tablet to landscape in a "more desktop" view.
This means that we will have to support more views than we would like, but we have heard the vocal feedback that people want this and we are going to try to accommodate.
When this was launched, "Description" and "Notes" were public for all other players in my campaign to see. Normally, you'd want your backstory (under "Notes") at the very least to be hidden to everyone but you and the DM.
Recently both "Description" and "Notes" have been updated to now be hidden to other players.
But (1) I'm not sure why "Description" would be hidden at all. And (2) there should be a simple toggle to allow you to choose to make your Backstory/Notes public. I prefer them to be private by default, but there are plenty of situations you would want to share it with your campaign publicly.
We received feedback fairly quickly that things like alignment or even background were considered sensitive by some. We took a stricter stance, since we had already taken a fairly loose one to make all characters publicly shareable by default. That decision was a difficult one for us, but we ultimately went that route because we hypothesized that many would want to share their characters (and we weren't wrong about that based on our data), and we imagined the confusion over changing from Public to Private before sharing would be a bigger issue than the other way around.
It might not have been the right call in hindsight, and we are taking the feedback about restricting some of the public information seriously. In the short term, we will introduce other permission levels that will allow players to opt-in to share the Description and Notes sections, so you'll have control over it at that point.
Glad to see that the decisions around the privacy settings are being reviewed, because I was surprised by the choice made (and believe that privacy defaults should not be surprising). It maybe an awkward thing to try and retroactively switch public profiles to private, but if private becomes the default in future I imagine the prominence of the "Share" button would allow you to use that to prompt "Do you want to set your character to public so you can share it?".
It's a character, not a person. Requiring privacy and treating it as some sort of violation is just absurd. This is the same issue as DM's not wanting their players to have access to all content. If you don't trust the people you game with, then maybe you shouldn't be gaming with them?

It's information which, previously, users had an expectation was visible only to them (and their DM if they're in a campaign) being made visible to the general public. People aren't arguing that the characters themselves have a right to privacy... it's the people publishing their stories/ideas/content to be shared only among a chosen group of people suddenly having the access group expanded contrary to their expectation.

Thanks for the update BadEye - do you have any idea on how long this is going to take? Is it something simple that will take a few days/weeks or more complex which will be done when it's done?

Thank you for this. Since I have a massive amount of notes on one of my character sheets, I'm looking forward to this feature so that I can share them with my group.
Would it be possible with the mobile version to have a hybrid between swipe and tap.
Keeping a static main section with ability mods, move speed, AC, prof bonus, hp at the top then having one tap to get you to an area with max three swipes i.e. a combat tab which opens attacks with swiping right to spells and swiping left to saves/ combat related class features/items. While another tap might take you to a tab to "non combat" with skills and swipe left to your list of proficiencies and right to equipment.
This might give you the best of both worlds, no endless swiping but not having to tap to 3 tabs in the middle of combat, which, though not difficult, seems to frustrate many people.
This is wonderful! I can see what a labor of love this project has been for all all involved.
I don't know if it's a glitch or perhaps an oversight.....
When exporting my fire Genasi monk (way of shadow) I noticed in the exported sheet, my unarmed strikes are not listed in weapon attacks. Also my custom attack is not listed.

I'd have to see this in action, but this sounds like a great idea for the smaller tablets that won't be able to fit the full layout on one screen without compromising the view.
2) This may not be popular, but how many times do you actually have to reference your primary ability scores, or even their bonuses, during a game? Most times the reference needed is the proficiency + ability modifier as part of an ability check or saving throw. Having the ability scores be right up the top and so large is... well... kinda redundant.
It comes up a lot for me
How? If you're making any sort of ability check, chances are that it's associated with a skill and whether you have proficiency in the skill or not, the modifier to the roll is presented in the skills list.
Suffice it to say, direct ability checks are very ,much drpendamt upon the DM and stylr of play. You may not use them at all, others may all the time.

1: Need the ability to move the order of actions-Alphabetical is not always the best for me...ex: I would like to organize concentration vs non con spells, damage vs healing, most used vs less used...I think you get my drift...
Some of this can be done via filtering. It won't reorganize the list, but if you're looking for something that does healing or has concentration, there are tags and checkboxes which can be applied or cleared to help you with that. It's not exactly what you're talking about it, but it may be helpful in the meantime.
Just wanted to share a huge thanks for improving the character building section. It's so easy to customize and edit information online. I have just a few points that may have been missed (or are still in the pipeline) for the PDF export:
I am unable to fill the large 'Character Appearance' slot (could be solved purchasing Acrobat Professional)
The 'Enemies' list is missing from the 'Allies & Organizations' slot as it used to be
There is no place to put a logo for any Organization (could be working as intended)
(Custom) backgrounds (and their effects) are not listed
After downloading the PDF, it is no longer editable, which makes tweaking or restoring errors impossible (issue on Firefox Linux, does work on Windows' downloaded PDF)
Hope you will find some time to address these issues, so we can print out our character sheets better. I am continuing to work with my old version for now :)
Ill first preface this by staying that I am well aware that the DDB team are working of full implementations of class resource management (such as ki, sorcery points, etc.) and im hoping that those sections will cover those specific areas.
I think that all things that require resource management should be included in the actions section in one way or another, there are things currently left out of the actions section like the lucky feat or rogues sneak attack that i feel should really be included. I know that neither of these things requires an "Action" but there are other things included in there that don't either like the fighters action surge. If everything was included in the actions section, people wouldn't have to go digging in features and traits to ensure they haven't missed anything
Because of the above suggestion i thing the "Other" actions tab should be split into a "Free/No Action" tab and a "More than one action" tab, or even keep the second one as other. But i do think these should be split as they are for very different circumstances. Not sure i have ever used something like a spell that requires more than one action in combat before But the things that are free actions i will use constantly.
I think you're probably onto something with this, but I can't say if I would really like it or not until I saw something in action. I don't really have a problem with all free and multi-action abilities/spells being under a collective "other", but I'm not opposed to something different, either. Perhaps if things like sneak attack and rage bonus showed up in the combat section as reminder that they exist and what their value is? It could replace Initiative and AC (which I believe BadEye said was likely going to get moved out to a more prominent section) since you wouldn't really need either of those if you aren't attacking, anyway.
The other thing that was in the limited use section was magic items with charges and i do feel that these need to be managed better. I don't have any solution that i have really come up with that works but some ideas could be including them in their own section, being able to filter them buy has charges, include them in a section in the actions tab (this one is a bit weird but works in my head), include them in the attunement section as only the ones with attunement can normally be used.
But then you have items like the Wand of Magic Missiles, Wand of Smiles/Scowls. I think it would be useful to have that information there, but not as a sole solution. As I said in another post, redundancy isn't a horrible thing, so long as there is a good reason for it. I'm pretty sure it's a good reason to show me the charges on my attuned item if I'm in my attuned item area, but also show me wherever all the other charged items are kept. Perhaps as part of the equipment area, just make one tab for charged items? I know it's not exactly an elegant solution, but it does seem to have the benefit of making a little sense.
That being said i think there needs to be a button somewhere that is a "New Dawn" or something for all the magic items that reset at dawn and you currently have to dig through inventory to find what charges need to be refreshed. I am also aware that staff have said they still want to improve inventory when they include in containers. So this will hopefully be covered in that and I'm sure they will come up with a better solution than any that i have offered but just thought id try.
The only issue I see with this is items that recharge xDy charges. And I think there is a possibility for dusk or dawn on recharge options. I would almost rather see those charges dynamically appear as part of the Long Rest feature like resetting the max HP. It could just let you empty out some of those use charges, and would be a good way to remind players that they need to roll for those items on that long rest.
Also finally id like to throw my vote in for the Moon Druid wild shape feature overwriting the main wild shape feature, in the actions section. Still think the features and traits section should show every feature received even if superseded.
I would plus one this, but I think it needs more like plus a million. I would also love to see the resource tracking for it go to the Bonus Action tab since that's really where it belongs.
