Just started using the DDB character build sheets. I find it very helpful. I have a few questions on how to use some of the features:
- When building a L1 sorcerer I could not get the cantrips and spells to populate the spell page on the .pdf download. I can see them when reviewing the character specs on the web site but they do not print out in the .pdf.
- I also have same issues with weapons selected. They do not show up in the "Weapons, Attacks, Cantrips" where the attack bonus and damage is listed for melee or ranges weapons. The unarmed attack shows up every time but none of the weapons I've selected do.
Am I doing something wrong when selecting the above items?
Thanks KPO
Cantrips and spells should show up on the spells page of the exported PDF, but I have seen another recent report of this not working. I tried a test character and it worked properly.
Note that cantrips and spells will only show up as "attacks" if they involve an actual attack roll. Spells that require a check role by the target do not show up automatically there. You can customize them to display as an attack on the online character sheet, but if memory serves, this does not transfer over to the pdf.

Hello, thank you for the reply. I did some research on character sheets in the forums and I think I read that the downloadable .pdf is only a second thought / feature added on to the auto populated character sheet from DDB. The .pdf was not the intended output for the character sheets, the online DDB community seems to be the real intended purpose for the character sheets. There seems to be more functionality and customization for the character sheet when used on-line.
But I love the fact that I can download a .pdf of the character sheet and still modify it for my home gaming purposes. Just whish I could get the melee and ranged weapons, I select, to populate the "attacks" section.
I see what you mean about certain spells not populating the "attacks" section although I tried down loading the .pdf several more times and the last version actually loaded in the spells on the spell slot page, with cantrips. Don't know what I did but that worked for my mage.

If you had chosen spells shortly before exporting, that could be it. There are some server caching issues. Weapons should show up, though, as long as you have them set to wield. If they aren’t, post. Link to your character and hopefully a moderator can check it out.
That worked, although there is no pop up info about the buttons next to the weapons and armor in the equipment list, I clicked on then anyway. That populated the "Attack" window with the weapons. The down load worked instant also.
Hello, I've created several characters sheets now but can't find the Open Lock or Lock Pick skill. I'm looking for the "open lock" for my Rogue, he comes with a tool set but I'm not sure how that applies to an open lock modifier roll.
There seems to be several skills not showing up as options to pick from. My knowledge of the skills comes from 3rd or 4th edition PHB so I'm guessing the absents of these skills I'm looking for is because they are no longer relevant in the 5e rules. If that the case then how does a character determine an open lock/pick lock skill modifier?

Thanks,
There's no open lock / lockpick skill in 5e; you use your tool proficiency with Thieves' Tools to open locks or disarm traps. (It's usually Dex bonus + proficiency bonus (if applies); but the DM might ask for a different stat instead of Dex in certain cases - using Int to pick combination locks would be a good example)

I'm running into an issue where if I put names or notes on a item, those are erased if the character sheet if reloaded for whatever reason. This is a major problem when playing characters for Adventurer's League bc we *have* to keep track of what spell scrolls we have or what prayer beads we have. Yes, I could put under general notes on the sheet, but that's not as useful as having it under the actual item notes. So it'd be nice if it actually saved permanently like it does for the general notes.

What browser / OS are you using? Also, changes are not saved until the form loses focus - make sure you press tab (or click into a different field) after adding the name/note. This should also add a * to the item's name and a "remove customisation" button should also appear. (I just tested, I've added a note to an item in chrome and reloaded - it did save the note if I pressed tab before reloading).
Note this is a sanity feature, as the browser could easily generate way too many requests to the servers if they were saved at each keypress; not to mention it could get to dicy issues if the internet does a wobble and the requests don't arrive in the correct order. Simplest, easiest and cleanest solution is to update field when edit is finished; which is marked by moving on to a different field.

One small issue i run into when i choose feat fighting Initiate and from it Superior Technique it didn't let me choose a maneuver as the style would normally let me. There were a couple of other feats with similar problems but can't remember which ones.

Did you only just add the items to your equipment? This sounds like a known issue; for some reason any customisations you make to an item you've only just added to equipment will not be saved, you need to add the item, reload the page then customise it; once the sidebar is closed it should save the changes. I posted a thread about this before, if you'd like to add weight to it, as it still hasn't been fixed yet.

There are a few outstanding things that still haven't been finished from the Tasha's Cauldron update, you can read about what still isn't done in this thread, and post your issue there if it doesn't seem to be listed (I had a quick look and didn't notice it).

Recently in our game we received a cart and horse.
I went through the extras and could not find a cart to add, It is in the SRD and PHB.
I guess this is a request to add it to the vehicle list.
You will find the cart in the equipment section, not extras.
There reason is this: in D&D 5e, there are essentially two kinds of vehicles: what I call equipment vehicles and statblock vehicles. Originally, there were only equipment vehicles, that showed up in the equipment lists in the Players Handbooks. These vehicles had info about weight and speed, but no HP AC or the like. Then WOTC (the creators of D&D 5e) added new vehicles (notably in Ghosts of Saltmarsh, and the Avernus adventure): these vehicles (ships, infernal machines, etc.) had HP, AC, and other stats...thus I refer to them as statblock vehicles. The extras tab is designed for statblock vehicles, not for equipment vehicles. Until and unless WOTC creates statblocks for the equipment vehicles, they can't be added to extras.

You could create a homebrew "monster" for it, which will let you add it to your extras; you'll want to discuss with your DM what a cart's stats might be though, since they don't have any in the player's handbook or the Dungeon Master's Guide.
As ArwensDaughter says a cart or wagon is really just equipment for you, or more specifically your horse(s), that determines how much gear they can carry. In combat it's otherwise just considered to either be an equipped item if still attached to said horse(s), or an object if unhitched.
More complex vehicles like boats have stats because they're specifically intended to be able to engage in naval combat and such. I think in most cases you don't really need to know how tough a cart is; something will either damage it or not, and it's fairly unlikely something attacking it will miss.

Agreed, there should be a way to toggle the weight of an item "OFF", for things you own but aren't "on you". Like a saddle and saddle bags on a hoarse...and the horse...
I’m hoping inventory management improvements, which are on the list and hopefully on the horizon (for development, not release) will address the encumbrance/weight issues.
Not sure if this is the right place...but I’ll add my voice.
In customizing actions could we get a damage type for ‘heal’ or ‘healing’. As it stands I have my actions parsed out as generic damage but it would nice to see the ‘heart’ that denotes healing as separate from my abilities that actually do damage.
Artificer: any chance for a quicker way to change the resistance on our infusion. As it is, we have to remove the infusion and reapply it. This seems like something that could be done.
Making items: Can we get multiple sets of charges? ‘has charges’ doesn’t cover when you have an item that does multiple effects with different reservoirs of power.

Im not sure how to post my character sheet for the moderator to review.
But I'll look for the "set weapon to wield" button and try that next. Then maybe wait a few minutes before downloading.
Thanks, KPO

okay but it has a weight to it and it gets added like I am actually the horse or somehow am lifting the cart.
I know I can change the weight to 0 but every time I change things like that they eventually revert back to their original state.
I don't see why they don't just put it extras as a vehicle or part of a mount combo.
