Quote button? I might use it more if it didn't pull in 8 layers of irrelevant nested older quotes. Using it is a huge pain in the hindquarters.
You know you can edit quoted text to, for example, only respond to one layer and cut out the irrelevant stuff, right?
For myself, i was definitely respondind to what TiBBy thought. I don't want video game functionality in a character sheet for my tabletop game. That's the problem, though, isn't it? Many, many users with different ideas of what they want and need out of DDB. Curse has a tough road to walk here, and I think they are doing a great job so far.
Sigh. Would you please specify what, exactly you were replying to?

How is it video game related to ask when you prepare a spell for the day that there is an automatic check if you have the required material component to do so ? i mean how many time in a game a player want to do something and DM ask him OK But do yo have this or that to do what you want and after verification they dont ... i saw that very often... sure most of the hardcore experienced player think about all those stuff but not everyone.

That was my point actually - if you can edit the quoted part, I certainly can't figure out how. I can delete the quoted text, but it still leaves behind the nested "Quote from X" boxes. I have no idea how you broke up my quote here for example, into two boxes with your comments between them. I need to bold or color my text so it's obvious what I added.

It was (originally) the post immediately preceding mine, so no quote was required, IMO. Just a difference in how we feel we need to post in a discussion thread apparently.

From my POV, that's simply adding a lot more automated function into the sheet than seems necessary. By video-gamey, what I meant is that I'm seeing that you want a function where if you wanted to cast a spell, you'd need to open the sheet, click on the spell which would then check if you had the right components, etc, etc. To me, that may be more useful in a video game, or perhaps a VTT game - that sort of thing. I guess I'm just in a more manual mindset still? Personally, when I DM I don't bother tracking those fiddly bits unless it becomes and issue of someone seeming to abuse a spell. Don't bother with ammunition, rations, etc either more often than not. I run with the assumption that a wizard has what he needs to cast the spells he knows - keeps things simple and faster in play. I can understand there are those who do though, but would think it's something a player can easily enough keep track of without needing to bog down the character sheet functionality.
Again, I CAN see your point of view - there are surely other people who'd want or use that, but IMO there are still so very many things that would be more beneficial to many more users that while it could/should be added to "the list" of wants, it belongs pretty far back behind bigger "needs".

To be fair, editing quote boxes is currently a pain. The way they behave when you're trying to delete them is really annoying and unintuitive, and CTRL-Z seems to reset too much.
Anyways, material component management is a big pain point for me too. The components are big investments sometimes, so I definitely want to track exactly how many I have and it'd really help if the character sheet had a notion of material components.
I don't need to know what the components actually are - I can look at the description of Find Familiar for that - but I do want to know I have Find Familiar Components x2 and likewise when I expand Find Familiar I'd like to see I have enough components for two castings.
It'd also be nice if the Cast button reduced the components by one in addition to using up a spell slot, but I don't care about this part as much as just having visibility on the components. I can adjust them myself. I know automating it is potentially a lot of work, since casting as a ritual also consumes the components and some classes can get spells that bypass the material components.
Yeah, i think we ended up with the wires crossed on two different threads: one about material components and another about "paper doll"-style inventory slots. I don't think anybody thinks tracking material components is too video game-like; that was a point about the inventory slots.
It's almost like Matthias was on to something with the whole "lack of quotes leads to confusion" thing. :)
Someone has probably already posted about this, but: there should be an option to enter an existing character. My party has already been campaigning for a while, and they all have well developed characters. I was going to enter their characters into D&D Beyond...and to do so I am forced to make them each at level one and then level them up multiple times. Why can't I just get into a character editor and choose level, race, etc, then enter their ability scores and hit points and stuff?

You shouldn't have to take them to their current level one level at a time unless they're really thoroughly multiclassed. Just select the class and then set the level.

LOL - you may have a valid point. (Quoted for clarity!)
It would helpful to see the concentrate symbol (etc.) next to spell duration in the spell summaries of the character view. For example, my Drow has Faerie Fire in the Limited Use section, but it doesn't show the symbol. The symbol does appear in the general spell section.
Whatever happened to being able to pick skills and the backgrounds just offering suggestions? That was neat and now I'm not sure how to change those skill proficiencies.

That was a temporary solution to the problem of being unable to create a custom background.

If you want to use proficiencies outside what is granted via a published background, you'll need to select "Custom" for your background and select the appropriate options.
This was a cleaner implementation that is closer to rules as intended.
I am not sure (ok they probably are mentioned but just incase) if these are mentioned but this topic has too many pages to check.
Export character sheet does not show my feat and ability score selections. It also does not show battle masters type of superiority die (it shows rogue's sneak attack) or how many superiority die he has. It also does not show maneuvers for battler master. It does not show my bonus language selection for human also on site character sheet does not show selected bonus language for humans either. I am pretty sure there were some other things were missing too but these are the ones that caught my eyes at the moment.
In the new character sheet, will there be a way to enter a custom language? In my Greyhawk campaign, there are several human languages other than Common that I would like to enter on the sheet in a way that they appear in the languages section of the sheet.

Another vote for a "character copy" feature that I'm sure has been suggested already.
Making a copy of a lvl 1 to play with "endgame" build options without altering the 1st lvl toon would be convenient.

Is Unearthed Arcana still planned on being included at some point?
