One small tale about bolds is once 4 adventurers(a Dragonborn monk, centaur fighter, tortle barbarian and a firbolg Druid ) were tasked with clearing out a kobold den. However instead of the sensible plan they chose to enter the den. Long story only the barbarian and the monk survived(maggots and a swolebold killed the other two)
Meepo Madness: It's neat to see that so many different people had so many different experiences with Meepo. I honestly don't fully remember what happened to the little monster, aside from the fact that he was awesome. I think he abandoned us when we encountered some
Giant Rats
, but the thing I remember clearest about Meepo is the first conversation we had with him.
Monsters of the Multiverse: A lot of the cool lore about Kobolds as monsters didn't make it into M3, which is a travesty. That being said, the Kobold species is actually fine. It has more cool abilities and features. That being said, the description on what your Kobold can be like is less specific. Personally, I like the fact that the concept your Kobold can be is no longer limited. However, I know that a number of people feel differently, because some players enjoy having pre-established limitations and guidelines on how their species typically acts.
Wizards of the Coast: Can we not turn this thread into a place to bash WotC? This was meant to be a hangout thread for Kobold loving nerds, not one of the many, many other threads on the forums about how upset people are with the corporation.

I almost TPKed a L5 party once with a kobold encounter. They fell into a kobold lair after a earthquake caused the land cave in under them. The lair was suited for small creatures, so medium sized creature needed to crawl. It was also heavily obscured being in complete darkness. Being trapped in a large flat room, they started fighting while crawling away there was small but also tiny tunnels from which kobolds could squeeze to/from that the party couldn't so kobolds were showing up left and right. They spring traps on them, releasing poisonous spider swarm on them. The party lit a torch, fought their way out and into serpenting tunnels not knowing where to go to exit. They eventually reached an underground river that they jumped into and swim away until they reach a small natural cave system. They digged upward until they reached the surface some days later and in the end only 2 out of 5 managed to escape alive.
I think my fave story about a Kobold dungeon was one where a small colony had capitalized on how their dragon had managed the epic feat of dying of extreme age and proceeded to make a dungeon dedicated to defending the treasure from those who would steal it.
Now this was regarded by the players at the time (Epic level munchkins from 3rd) as being like stealing candy from a baby as they were so far beyond them in CR that they had long since surpassed the point where 'bolds would award any XP regardless of how many their were, and thus they wandered in, casually mocking the first handful of traps that the GM took time to describe (the deadfall, the arrow trap, the tripwire) as they easily defeated them with careful explanations by the rogue for how he was disabling each trap.
The humor and mirth died however, when after discovering a pressure plate in an otherwise benign room the player discovered that disabling the plate was the trap. Imediately, a portal had opened under the rogue's feet and dumped him into the 665th layer of the abyss where there is nothing but air and gravity causing everything inside of it to be slowly disintegrated by air friction as they fall forever and since they're in perpetual motion through an infinite void extracting them is nigh impossible. At this point the players realized that this was very, very real.
As sessions went by with them trying to navigate a dungeon that was like some horrible mashup of Saw, Cube and Tomb of Horrors the players were frustrated at seemingly every turn by the puzzles and traps that presented themselves and beyond that the abscence of both things they could actually fight and actual treasure and it wasn't until they reached the heart of the dungeon that the horrible irony of this place was explicitly spelled out to them. The kobolds had, over the course of multiple generations spent the dragon's horde on materials in order to craft this utter nightmare fuel deathtrap, and after having run out of resources to make it deadlier and deadlier had simply elected to leave and find a new dragon to serve, citing the previous dungeon as a sort of work reference.
As Galling as that was though, things got worse when the GM pointed out that they still had to actually get back out of the dungeon.
I just wish that we could make an Urd (winged Kobold) with official character sheets. For now, I just decided to homebrew a flying speed for one of my players who really wanted to play one.
To be honest, adding a 30 ft flying speed to the standard Kobold race from MotM won’t break anything.
XD That's exactly what I did
I like to think that a flying creature/player should have to move a few feet to start flying because It's not like they're a helicopter, like a real animal, they need momentum to fly.

Birds and other flying creatures (Ex. Aarakocra) can take off from a stand-still, not sure why a flying kobold should be any different personally.
I love kobolds. They're so easy to put in any campaign. Doesn't matter the setting. In my last campaign, however, I didn't want to introduce any evil kobolds, since most kobolds are evil and I wanted to add some flavour. So, I had a loveable DMPC named Spittle Honeymore who was a lawful good kobold paladin. In the end, I killed him off with a Finger of Death and he rose as a zombie under the command of the BBEG. The players had no choice but to kill Zombie-Spittle.
Kobolds as a race are nice. Their Draconic Cry feature is really helpful in my opinion.

The conflict between Urds and Kobolds being as petty as it is is honestly one of my favorite things in D&D.

It’s more that flying in dnd is one of the most powerful abilities to have unless your dm is prepared for it
Here’s another one of my Kobold NPCs for anyone who’s interested: (Arix Molo, Bandit).
