Well obviously I am asking here because it is the roadmap...
as in when does the 5E road map end so those of us who want to get past this edition can see if we like the 6th, and holy cow
Mearls is still working there, I thought he left or something years ago during the Next thing. Edit: had him mixed up with Monte Cook maybe
Edit: looks like Mearls is gone, they got a Ray something now, hopefully that means 6 is closer
This thread is for the D&D Beyond feature roadmap, not D&D in general.
Honestly, if you're that dissatisfied with the current edition of D&D, you'd probably get more out of your time either looking at older editions or other tabletop RPGs; there are a lot out there with a lot of interesting ideas.
From the quarterly reports Hasbro releases, the 5th edition of D&D has been showing consistent growth so until that takes a down turn, don't expect them to start considering a new editions.
This is exactly the same argument people that demand, "you don't need miniatures or maps since the game is about Theater of the Mind!", use to explain why my play style is wrong.
An API so people that use a VTT with every game, (lots of folks have projectors or monitors set into the game table), can link the data for character, effects, and images to the table as well as display the dice upon it. The fact that you only use physical objects at the table does not mean no one else does.
Miniatures have been used in D&D for 40 years, I don't think anyone argued that they are not needed.
VTT is fairly important for remote play to be engaging. Even with it its not the same (Matter Mercer never tried to do Critical Role games on VTT). Its not critical for in person play, is it is useful , do people use it, for sure.
Is it something DDB should spend a year making, if they did it 2 years ago for sure, I feel they missed the boat now.
I would love an API, so would anyone using a complimentary product. Will DDB create one? Only for a product that is not competing with them and/or is paying them.
I never use miniatures or grids or battle maps, I personally don’t find any of that necessary. That being said, people will still want a VTT, they wanted one before the pandemic. They will still want one after. And DDB has already announced that they are developing a VTT and an API.

Just so you know, Mike Mearls no longer has a say on anything related to official D&D, as he is no longer with the TTRPG team. Ray Winninger is now in charge.
I personally really like the idea of VTT. I know there are groups out there that imbed a screen into their gaming tables and display the maps on there. Looks pretty awesome. and it can be used for so many situations.
As far as is it necessary? no. It is a tool that we will be able to use, just like all the digital content here on DDB. I could buy all the books, but honestly, I DM from a laptop now, and having quick access to things and not having to flip through book index is a great time saver. Some will use it and others won't, just like people like me who have bought content here and others who simply use this as an online character sheet builder.
Can anyone here tell me if the dnd beyond feature roadmap on Trello is still being used. Looking at it earlier today and I see the last activity on it was in March of 2020, even though a few changes have taken place since then. Digital Dice Alpha, Character Sheet App Alpha, Framework change etc etc. Is trello still up to date?
I really like what you guys are doing with DndBeyond and it is a great tool to plan games and to play! I was wondering if the following features are planned:
1) Possibility to create a full class in the homebrew workshop
2) Make creation of monster, races and magical item more user friendly (it is already really nice to have this possibility but I often find myself in the need of opening a ''copy'' of a magical item or a monster to find out the right way to program stuff I am creating and sometimes I really get lost)
3) Possibility to manage spell list inside the character sheet (add spells not usually allowed for the class, add spells ''always prepared/known'')
I'm not associated with dndbeyond but according to their statements they are working on a major revamp of how updates are done (I'm not enough of a programmer to understand what it is) when that is done it will make lots of things easier to do on the file update side and lots of projects are in the planning stage once that is done they will start to do homebrew classes but it will start as tweaks and recombining existing class systems first and gradually branch out from there. Ease of use for all homebrew is also set for after the update. The easiest way to create homebrew magic items is to find items that do the thing you want and look at how the set up that thing.
All those things are planned.i think you can create a homebrew feat that allows you to add spells that aren't part of your class and add that feat to the character sheet directly to allow those spells.

Equipment Roller. Like in the PHB it says to "roll from table 7". It would be great to be able to just hit a button and get a piece of equipment to distribute to players! An advanced function would be custom item lists to roll.

What does any of this have to do with DDB’s roadmap? They won’t roadmap anything for 6e until WotC announces 6e.

This has already been asked and answered and catalogued in the summary document.
And, as far as I know, Mike Mearls hasn't changed his mind.

Looking forward to 6E, hopefully by Fall 2021.
Hoping for 4E balance, faster combat, and mechanics separated from character themes.
Ok. I still wouldn't count on it.

Pandemic made a VTT extremely important. But the Pandemic is on its way out and after it the VTT will be far less important.
Personally I have bought and use DDB because what it does it does the best at, which is a character builder and online access to the books.
I'm not really sure what compelling feature is needed.
This is exactly the same argument people that demand, "you don't need miniatures or maps since the game is about Theater of the Mind!", use to explain why my play style is wrong.

Hope all you want, its not happening until 2024 at the earliest.
4th edition was a short release because it was an antithesis of everything D&D represented.

Something that I don't see on the feature list-
Equipment Roller. Like in the PHB it says to "roll from table 7". It would be great to be able to just hit a button and get a piece of equipment to distribute to players! An advanced function would be custom item lists to roll.
