Click item. Customise. Set weight to 0. Add note to say where it is and what it weighs.
OR
Remove from active inventory, click Other Possessions and type stuff there.

The reason why you're still waiting after so long is because implementing a feature to add a third new way to do something you can already do is a really, really, low priority compared to things that will be new/needed and actually have an impact for the majority.

No, you cannot already do this. What an obnoxious response.
If I have a horse, multiple horses or retainers, or even just more than one backpack, or simply want to have specific items in specific sacks and packs, there is no reasonable way to organize the inventory. Manually adding notes on every item to include weight and where it is effectively eliminates the reason to use the nice automatic features of dndbeyond.
Your solutions have problems, even beyond the fact that it eliminates the automation. The first solution, to customize the weight and add where the item is stored in a description, keeping it all in active inventory, prevents one from organizing the items spatially, making the inventory a cluttered mess visually. You also lack the automatic sum of weight, per inventory space.
The second solution, to place everything in Other Possessions, removes the ability to use columns that don't need to be customized, like QTY and Cost, so that you have to have it awkwardly inline with everything else, without the spatial justification present in columns. You also have to include words like QTY next to the QTY, or keep in mind the order of attributes. It's just absolutely unwieldly.
The fact that I can't even reorganize the inventory, that it is always sorted alphabetically, is just ridiculous. If I could simply move my inventory around to show stuff in the same container near each other, I wouldn't be nearly as annoyed by the lack of automatic features and requirement to add custom notes.
All I need is the ability to create another Equipment section with a custom title. But as it is now, I feel very discouraged from using dndbeyond.
EDIT: After looking around for where the hell the roadmap went, I actually found that dndbeyond has responded to the need for a container system and has put out a video on what is being worked on just a few days ago! So that's great. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/-HluXN7I6c8?t=517
EDIT EDIT: Oh you can just customize the name and prepend stuff with "_" to send it to the end of the list. Problem solved.
And I couldn't care less about inventory options and I promise you I'm not the only one. I get that people are passionate about it, but it just doesn't approach the importance of basic stuff like including all published content options in the character builder (which is also still in the 'To Do' column...).
If you are distributing your inventory across multiple retainers and horses and containers, you're not doing it because you have to. You're doing it because you like it. You enjoy that aspect of the game. So make a spreadsheet or write it all down or something. That way you don't have to compromise with whatever limitations a published feature might have and you can really go nuts with it. That's what I do with features I'd like to see but are not implemented yet (and some probably never will be). Just realize your priorities might not line up with those of the general customer base and accept it for what it is. If it's a dealbreaker for you, so be it. Hope you find something else that has all the features you want.
There was a post in 2017 saying that this kind of inventory managment would become available...
Does anyone know how/if this is possible with the D&D Beyond Character sheet?
Hi Nargeroth!
This is not yet possible. Inventory Management Enhancements is planned, though it is listed as a longer term planned item on the Feature Road Map.
Long, LONG, LONG, LONG term plan...
...at least, that's how it feels after two years of waiting for it.

This sheet works wonders
That's amazing, thanks!

Check the rest of his Imgur he has a magic item gear slot sheet as well as a bank inventory.
there is also a place you can list stuff out. I think it's called "other items" and it is where I makes notes like that

Has this feature been added yet?
Nope, NADA Not at this time, potentially in the future
