If only... Kender are pathologically shit-stirring, smack-talking, kleptomaniacs with no natural comprehension of consequences and an endless fascination with their own antics. They couldn't be a bigger headache at the table if they were having sex with your mom. I wouldn't trust one player in a thousand with a Kender, and all told I've probably only played with a few hundred people.
On paper, they're great characters. I liked Tasselhoff even if he was named after David Hasselhoff. But if you ever want to have the "but I'm only acting in character" conversation multiple times in a session, just allow kenders.

Dragonlance doesn't really need a campaign setting. A few little things like solamnic knights and the orders of high sorcery that could be used in a 5e game is about all you'd really need.
Yeah, it would not take much really.
As you said, the Knights and High Sorcery. Maybe some backgrounds. Adapt the Minotaurs, make an Ogre race ...and if you must, make Kender. But only if you absolutely must.
We have Minotaurs, Kender are basically halflings, right? Ogres are more difficult, WotC is scared of large races, but I would like an Ogre race. The Knights were basically Crown Paladins, right? Also, High-Sorcerers are more akin to Wizards, right? I don't think anything from Dragonlance needs a book.
sure it does. It needs rebalancing by way of new features to make up for the lack of divine magic without losing that heightened threat of death due to healing magic being nonexistent. A wizard/sorcerer origin/arcane tradition based on being a charlatan cleric could be super fun. Plus the most obvious is Dragon Riders and good flight combat rules. Could also include a complete system redesign that compresses max character level to 10th-12th level since that is how long most campaigns tend to run. The reason to introduce this in dragonlance is that Krynn in past editions capped character level to 10th so it would be a nice nod to the past. Honestly I kinda hope they just do an update for the chronicles modules for 5e. If they make Joe Maginello's dnd movies it would make sense to go to Krynn within the next 2 yrs since they are rumored to be based on the chronicles trilogy.
There were no clerics, so that just wouldn't be an option.
Depends on what part of the timeline we're talking about. Are you going to invalidate the existence of Bupu Bulp? That's just rude man... cruel and unusual.

You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."

I am just going with War of the Lance time frame. The original modules were awesome. As far as Bupu, she is a strong independent Gully Dwarf and does not need me to validate her.

Wasn't Goldmoon a cleric?

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Goldmoon did become a cleric, but that was not a playable option during the War of the Lance. There wasn't any Divine Magic in the hands of the players.
To be fair, adapting Dragonlance to 5e would be almost as hard as Dark Sun, but not for the same reasons. Dragonlance would take away a lot of options.
There were three Orders of High Sorcery, each restricted what spell schools you could use. Their magic was also affected by one of the 3 moons.
Yeah, but I don't think either of those would work in 5e. In older editions, weren't all wizards limited to what type of magic they could use? That's not true at all in 5e, except for Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters. Also, power based on the moons isn't going to work as a mechanic in D&D.
The Knightly Orders were not paladins, but you could probably make do with Battle Master and or Cavalier.
They were holy warriors, who swore oaths to deities, right? At least, didn't Sturm? (Purple Dragon Knight might work if it is key of them to not use magic) They seemed a lot in flavor like paladins, and I don't think they'd make a whole new subclass or class based on this.

Okay, I'm convinced it would take a bit of work, but I don't think anything is harder to bring to 5e than psionics, in the terms of player-satisfaction with the mechanics. I also haven't seen a ton of people that want Dragonlance in 5e. I certainly wouldn't root against it or complain if it was brought, I'd be happy and buy the book, but I just don't know how likely it is.

Yeah, but WotC won’t publish a setting unless it can include everything from the PHB.

Yes, but they could take a Ravnica stance on it. Ravnica has a sidebar explaining how clerics work without gods. Maybe they could just say that they're very rare and mainly unheard of. Doesn't stop players from using them unless the DM doesn't allow them.

Wizards in Krynn were not like wizards of other settings. They were completely incapable of learning spells from certain schools of magic. The Moons literally affected the potency of their magic as well.
The Knights were not sworn to a deity, but to a code, but like I said, you could just use Battle Master of Cavalier. I would love a new subclass for them, but that is not the point.
Cleric was not an option for the Players. Goldmoon did not become a cleric until after she had left the group. Bupu was not a cleric. She did not have any actual magic.
Kender were not Halflings. They did not use the rules for Halflings. They had their own stats like any other race.
Minotaurs were more like the Minotaur we have now.
The Ogres were of the same race. They were once powerful, beautiful and intelligent, then they "Fell" and were cursed to be big hulking brutes.
To be fair, adapting Dragonlance to 5e would be almost as hard as Dark Sun, but not for the same reasons. Dragonlance would take away a lot of options.

They have failed to bring psionics into D&D in any edition with any kind of player satisfaction. It has always been a controversial nightmare. But it has always been there.

Then why break with tradition? I would rather have it and it be a flustercluck than not have it.

Kinder were like Halflings the way Elves are like Tieflings.
We have Minotaurs and those would work for the most part.
The Ogres were broken down into two kinds, the intelligent ones and the dumb ones.
She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
Simply put, there is a lot more to the setting than you know.
