Is there a way to change the name of the currency used in a campaign? For instance, on their character sheets, I want players to see crowns instead of copper, sovereigns instead of silver, and galifars instead of gold.

In addition to being convenient, I think it promotes campaign & world immersion. When a merchant requests 3 Sovereigns for payment, it supports the campaign setting. NPC’s in that setting would not ask for 3 Silver Pieces.
Campaign Settings (HomeBrew and WOTC Packaged) are found in the details. The changes in currency, races, kingdoms, factions, deities, technology are DM gold when it comes to evoking a unique and fantastic setting. It breaks immersion when the narrator must repeatedly translate in-world currency to that which is listed on the ooc character sheet. I love when technology supports creativity!
Tell the PCs to track currency in another way. Notes, a separate sheet of paper, etc. Problem solved.
True, everything could be done on paper like we did in the 80’s. Using paper is however challenging for online games during a pandemic.
Maybe I'm confused about your current setup and what exactly you are trying to do. There's real people on the end of those cameras staring at something on some sort of screen right? Have them track your custom currency on a piece of paper. Tell them to disregard the currency that is on their character sheets and use the stuff they are tracking in front of them.

Honestly, I feel like this is the best course of action for a lot of things. Just tell your players to imagine the names differently. It's no different then someone reflavouring a spell or class to be something else, and I never seen anyone asking if they can get a function to rename their 'eldritch blast' to 'cosmic dagger' or however they imagine it being. Use DDB for the mechanics, but don't get caught up in the names. There are bigger problems at hand in playing a game of imagination and immersion if your players fumble around on not being able to go "Okay I can add 15 galifars" and just increasing the gold by 15. They even start with the same name so it isn't hard to remember.
+1 for this. I would love to be able to actually change the terms for gp, sp, etc. to aurei and other Roman terms. Yes I know I can just tell my players this, and I have, and sometimes they use the term "aurei," but I would prefer if it were supported by the sheet.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.

My system isn't perfect but for my campaign it works. I try to name the currency with the same letter. So instead of gold, it's gaffers or goblins or griffins, or goobers...

That is a good idea too.
I'm doing a Roman campaign so I am using the real-world Latin names for the coins (e.g., Aurei, quinarii, denarii).

I think a world specific language option where campaigns could substitute out language for lots of things, currency, items of equipment etc would be great too; but I imagine it would run afoul of the DND Beyond not able to go far afield from officially presented content licensing thing.
I keep coinage vague especially given that some treasure hoards may have currency not in circulation, or even from the PCs current plane of existence (looking at you Tiamat horde in Descent into Avernus).

I am using a Campaign Setting from forever ago (Mystara). In the “Known World” (major continent) there are 14 different nations. They each have their own currencies, each with specific established names. Unfortunately for me, your idea would not work in that campaign.

Feats - Hermit Crab & Superhero Landing
Item - Alertness & Skeleton Key
I wish there was! That would be super convenient.

I agree with what you've said. Here's a solution to move forward with:

Agreed. It breaks verisimilitude when an NPC says: “Yar, two Kopeks.” And the player has to ask “which one is a Kopek again?”

Thanks, I do not think it should be a "difficult" thing to add to D&D Beyond and will world immersion, supports "verisimilitude" as mentioned.
