What sort of Magical Environments or puzzles are people hoping for? I'd love to see them tackle a maze. "CRINGE" I know! But I'd love to see their official take on one that can be used in both battle mat and Theatre of the Mind format.
Some Feywild shenanigans would be rad too! Beyond the role tables in the PHB and DMG.
Or maybe as the “young merfolk lounging” teaser art suggests, some cool underwater environments, further to those found in Saltmarsh could be cool too!
If WotC uses Spellcasting to represent Psionics then I will ban it at my table.
If they do not, I will ban it at mine. We don't need a separate system for psionics.
Of it isn’t gonna be different then they might as well not even bother.
I'm cool with that option.
I'm pretty sure in one of his videos that Crawford stated that their feedback was pretty overwhelmingly in the camp of "no new mechanics needed for psionics", so I have to assume that the group that wants something unique is a very vocal minority, and one I doubt that WotC is going to cater to at this point.
I think you’re right. **** ‘em. I’ve already hated WotC for decades.
Nothing wrong with that. There's a lot worth missing from TSR...and a lot that's not so much worth missing. I'm not sure which camp I am farther into. WotC just generally annoys me because they do things for little to no reason. Whether I like something or not, at least if there's a good reason for it, I can live with it. Far too much stupidity comes out of WotC and they really have no good reason for having done it.
They did a pretty bang up job with 5e in general, but at this point I think it's gone to their head, and they don't try to avoid stupidity.
Stupidity like using Spellcasting to represent Psionics you mean.
To tell the truth, the more time goes on the more disappointed I am with 5e. I’m almost ready to go back to 3/3.5 at this point.
On the topic of the lineage system, I stumbled upon a book in the DMs Guild roughly, "An Elf and an Orc had a Baby". I haven't bought the book.
Considering the customization of Pathfinder 2e and the highest rated books in the DMs Guild about race. What are the elements you want for lineage?
For the balance concerns, the solution is to separate biological from cultural traits. (IE. Generally women can't lift as much as Men (biological) vs Men=Military; Women=Domestic (cultural) controversial example but you get the point)

it would be cool to customize the innate spellcasting of the drow, tiefling, triton or genasi, even though i doupt it will happen. An point system like that whole skills and powers thing would be neat, or if some of the cultural features from various races could ether be swapped with other cultural features from that race (swapping the dwarf weapon training for +1d4 to your crafting checks and a small crafting bonus to dwarfy magic items, abillity to appraise gems or recall military history easier instead of stonecunning, or some feature letting me add spells to the spell list for the spellcasting feature) or an feature letting you add cultural stuff from other races to represent them being raised by another culture, an dwarf getting artificer's lore and tinker for instance or an warforged built by dwarves who gets dwarf weapon training instead of their normal specialized design feature. Generally would also be cool to customize the warforged even further, have my war forged perhaps get that integrated tool from the UA and an expertise in it becuase it is what my warforged is built for, or alternatively they might be designed with natural d6 weapons, but who does not get that +1 to AC.
Again most of these are probably too ambitious, but those are my hopes anyways

Removing the elf restriction for bladesinger seems reasonable and in line with the current push to divorce features from race requirements. Hopefully they don't shift to INT modifiers for attack and damage bonus.
Do you think this new push to remove race oriented things will affect magic weapons and wondrous items with race restrictions to?

I don't think the plan is to completely remove race mechanics from the game, but rather to create a variant rule that will allow players to choose their racial attribute bonuses. WotC may also change "race" to something less problematic like Ancestry, Heritage or Species (although species would probably work better for a Scifi game than D&D).
As for the racial restrictions to certain classes, items etc the rules already have a caveat stating the DM can decide to ignore or change those restrictions to suit their game.
From Bladesinding, SCAG:
"Your DM can lift this restriction to better suit the campaign. The restriction reflects the story of bladesingers in the Forgotten Realms, but it might not apply to your DM’s setting or your DM’s version of the Realms."
I'm interested to see how WotC will implement this.

I posted this in another thread...
...you have three points you can add to whatever you want, max 2 to any one ability and this is probably what we are going to see. Even further, it sounds like they might classify or assign points to everything assigned to race, options like dark vision, powerful build, having a d4 unarmed strike may all be categorized in some way that allows you to select a certain number of them. If they are categorized, you can select one option from each, of they have points, just like stats you can select only as many as you can afford. There is far less detail about that, but I think we are also going to see something like that and I for one am all for it.
WotC may also change "race" to something less problematic like Ancestry, Heritage or Species (although species would probably work better for a Scifi game than D&D).
I believe they are going with “lineage,” hence why it’s called the “lineage system.”

Why would some members of the same species have dark vision and others not? d4 bonus to unarmed usually has something to do with a biological feature like claws, why would a lizardfolk not have claws and teeth but a dwarf would?
I really really doubt that this will be a point buy, pick anything you want, kind of system. I think you will be able to swap out a few traits with a specific list of alternate traits and place your stat modifiers where you like.

That seems be correct at least what was written in the newest dragon magazine.
from Dragon+ magazine:
Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything includes a new way to customize your character’s origin. This rule allows you to take the ability score bonuses of your race and apply them however you like, based on the origin that you imagined for your character. The same rule also provides guidelines on changing certain other elements of your race. It’s all about digging into the fact that adventurers are exceptional. The race options as written in the Player’s Handbook are Western high-fantasy archetypes. If you want your character’s backstory to diverge from that archetype in significant ways, there are now some very simple rules to make those changes. Many players embrace these high fantasy archetypes. Yet for other players, having their character differ from the archetype is what draws them to that character. And we want to make sure that our rules make it just as possible to take that path as to follow the archetype.”
Besides the legacy system denoted above the also have this tidbit about the Class variants:
No other Unearthed Arcana published for fifth edition has been as popular as the one we created for Class Feature Variants. It was so positive, in fact, that most of those options have made it into the book. Some of that material has been refined in a variety of ways, but it’s all going to be recognizable. On top of that, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything includes some additional options that were designed since that Unearthed Arcana was published. I think there are going to be some really delightful surprises. This book also contains a new version of the blade singer from the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide.”
So there will be other options that we will see for the class variants so that is cool. Plus a new version of the bladesinger class. There are other good things in there as well.

Warforged WOULD be the most customizable race as long as the DM allow it LMAO.

"Not all those who wander are lost"
Your DM can remove the restriction as they please. I think they will update the bladesinger for the purpose of encouraging more melee combat.

Hopefully, it'll on weather the weapon is intended for the genes or the culture.
Actually, a build-a-warforged would be pretty cool. Getting to choose a chassis, a plating, and maybe a specialty would add a lot more to the species.
A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.
My Improved Lineage System
I appreciate you pointing that out.
