I have been making a character for an upcoming game, and filled out a character sheet online only to realize there was no way to save it. I can't download it because of storage issues and I can't print it. Is there a fillable character sheet on D&D Beyond or Roll20 that doesn't need a premium subscription?
If you cant download a character PDF because of storage issues, and you cant print a PDF then why not just use the online builder that DndBeyond supplies? You don't have to download anything to make the character in the character creator.
You should also probably look into why you cant download a PDF because if your devise is so full that it cant download PDF's anymore, that is a problem.
Because DnD Beyond limits the content you can use to basic rules only and the homebrew creator is really confusing. manual creation is easier and allows more creativity.
It sounds like you're basically looking for a free version of D&D Beyond.
Honestly, if you can't even save a single PDF on your computer and you can't use any sort of physical character sheet, then you don't have much options. I'd recommend checking your hard drive again and seeing if there's a single mb that you can free up. PDF character sheets are not large. You could also easily download them on any other smart device you have, such as a phone or tablet.
He didn't say he couldn't download PDFs in general, did he? It won't let him download it because he doesn't have a subscription.
Solution: In the top right of that sheet should be a button that says 'Export Character'. That's how you get a PDF of your character. If you don't have that button, or it won't work, it's probably because you don't have a subscription. The solution to that is to buy a subscription. That's how the rest of us do it.

He said in the initial post that it was due to storage issues. Presumably, he doesn't have the space to download it, so any PDF would be problem.
To the OP: I'd second an earlier suggestion, have another look at your computer if it is due to storage issues. Not being able to store 1-2MB is odd and there's probably something wrong. Otherwise, get some more storage - it's beat to have some free space regardless.
Anyway, your best bet is probably to go to a library and print it off there.

If you are just looking for a way to record stats and stuff, I had made a Google Sheet for character information (pre DDB).

is there something specific to put in the skill proficiency slots, or do I have to modify proficient skills manually?

How to add tooltips on dndbeyond
I use the left 1-cell box to mark proficient or expertise. And then use the larger 2-cell box for the total bonus.

I would still recommend that you work to find out why you are unable to download PDFs because that is a big deal.

When I click download pdf it brings up a really nice looking character sheet, but all I can do is look at it.

The "Export to PDF" function on the character sheet is available to all users - it does not require a subscription.
